1. Early Morning Phone Calls
That little sound of the needle against the vinyl record crackled for a few seconds before the intro to L.A. Woman by The Doors engulfed Sunset Shimmer in its glory. The little tapping of the cymbals begun and she tapped her fingertips along with the beat.
"You have to play their song Riders on the Storm!" I exclaimed with a large smile on my face. Sunset turned over to look at me. She raised an eyebrow and smirked in my direction.
"And you have to buy me that pepperoni pizza... I told you I would get you hooked on their music," she responded, casually sitting on the swivel chair in her bedroom. She rolled over to me using her feet to push herself in my direction.
I was sprawled out on her bed on my back. She was upside down from my perspective, and I couldn't help but laugh at the adorable face she was making.
"What?" She crossed her arms over her chest and pouted her lips at me. I only smiled in return and rolled over onto my stomach before I sat cross legged on the bed. I immediately fixed my hair back into its bun and put on my glasses.
"Oh, nothing... So, have you figured out what you're going to play next?" I questioned with a grin. She faintly smiled and spun around in the swivel chair for a second until she stood up and climbed on the bed next to me.
She was staring at me with those aquamarine colored eyes again. Her fiery and wavy hair cascaded down to her chest wonderfully, and beautifully accented the striped blue and white sweater she was wearing. She was still wearing the same black jeans from school earlier today.
"Well... Considering that we're listening to a vinyl, we're going to have to let the track list decide for us," Sunset responded with a matter-of-factly tone. I chuckled and pointed over at her electric guitar from across the room. When she realized what I meant, her cheeks flushed red, "Oh... R-Right."
"It happens to the best of us."
"Mostly you though."
"Wha - hey!"
Sunset chuckled as I playfully shoved her by her arm. She smiled to herself. Her smile suddenly vanished and she turned to stand up from the bed. Her back was facing me so I wasn't able to read her. She was there for a second longer until she climbed back on the bed - this time facing me directly.
She stretched her legs out to my sides and kept them there until she spoke, "Listen... Twi... There's something I've been meaning to talk to you about."
My breath caught itself in my throat and I felt my cheeks heat up. I bit my lower lip anxiously and watched Sunset struggle to voice her thoughts.
"Uh... There's r-really not anything bad about what I'm going to say or anything - it's just... I don't know... Weird, maybe?" She chuckled nervously and began fidgeting with the sleeves of her baggy sweater.
"You know you can talk to me about anything, Sunset." I reassured her. She looked up at me and smiled. She closed her eyes and exhaled. I was still holding onto my breath, nervous about what was going to come out of her lips next.
Sunset slowly and delicately placed her hand on my arm, causing me to blank out entirely. She had begun to lean forward slightly and once again, my stomach began doing cartwheels.
"Call me crazy, but... I think I'm falling for you."

I abruptly woke up and sprung up on my bed. My breathing had been intense during that dream. It felt as if I had been submerged underwater and was barely coming up for air. My hand instinctively reached out for my glasses and put them on my face.
4:45 A.M.
I groaned and slammed the back of my head against my pillow. After removing my glasses and setting them down on the nightstand, I rubbed my eyes and threw my arms down to my sides in annoyance.
"That's the millionth time I've had that dream, Spike." I said to Spike in a hush. Of course, he was knocked out on his little back on his small dog cushion beside my bed. I sighed, envious of his ability to sleep through nearly everything.
I remained awake and stared up at the dark ceiling of my bedroom and exhaled slowly. I immediately turned over to my side and reached over to grab my cell phone. When I unlocked it, I was greeted by the familiar screensaver of my friends and I.
I scrolled through my apps until reaching SnapGap and pressed on the little icon. Obviously no one else had posted anything since it was nearly five in the morning. Little did I know that I was subconsciously hovering over Sunset Shimmer's profile.
"Why me?" I groaned internally and pressed on her profile to send her a text message. However, when I saw her profile, I was stunned and left nearly heartbroken when I saw a post of her and Flash Sentry together at Sunset's workplace. I tapped on the photo and read the caption.
Sushi break with this weirdo. (:
A little sigh escaped my lips before I pressed the back arrow on the post and immediately began composing a direct message to Sunset.
Odd question. Are you awake right now?
4:47 A.M.
Seriously? That's the best i could think of? I chewed down on the side of my tongue and patiently waited for a response. I was so stupid. She obviously wasn't awake.
I locked my phone and set it down on the nightstand again. Once again, I turned to my side with my back facing my phone. My eyes began feeling heavy until I heard a short ding come from my phone. I froze in place until a second ding played once more.
I quickly reached out for my phone and went straight to SnapGap. Sure enough, it was her.
Yeah I'm up - couldn't sleep and been reading Fahrenheit 451 all over again |:
4:49 A.M.
What about you? You're not usually up so late... is this your rebellious side coming up? (;
4:49 A.M.
I smiled and instantly began typing up a response.
Just had another weird dream again and couldn't sleep... classic me, am I right?
4:50 A.M.
Classic Twilight (:
4:51 A.M.
Has Guy met Faber yet?
4:51 A.M.
Almost... but I'm not gonna get there if I keep getting distracted now, can I? (:
4:52 A.M.
You're still replying though, aren't you? (:
4:52 A.M.
Not my fault you always have something compelling to say to me.
4:53 A.M.
I felt my cheeks heat up slightly as I stared at the message, unable to really come up with a response. After confiding in the girls a few months ago about my ongoing crush on Sunset Shimmer, and showing them recent text message exchanges with her, they confirmed that it was flirty banter. Was this Sunset being flirty again?
Rarity, Pinkie, and Rainbow Dash all agreed that there was a chance that Sunset reciprocated the feelings judging from the way she'd reply to me both onscreen and in reality. But why did I get the feeling they were only saying that to make me feel better?
You still there, Twi? Or did you fall asleep on the phone again? :P
4:57 A.M.
Nope still here. Just didn't know what to say
4:57 A.M.
wait I didn't mean to send that
4:58 A.M.
OR THAT. Please just ignore me now.
4:58 A.M.
I face palmed and tossed my phone across my bed in embarrassment. After sitting up in bed in the darkness for what seemed like ages, my phone began vibrating. Continuously.
Oh God, she's calling me isn't she?
I scrambled to get my phone in time and there it was. Sunset Shimmer's name was on display for me to see on my cell phone. I hesitantly slid the arrow to answer the phone call and held the phone up to my ear.
"Y-Yes?"
"Have I ever told you that you're absolutely adorable when you get flustered even when it's through a phone screen?" Sunset said with a smile clear in her voice. I blushed at the sudden remark and played with the ends of my dark violet hair.
"You've mentioned it once or twice, yes." I replied with a small giggle. She chuckled in response.
"Good." There was a pause followed by the sound of papers rustling in the background, "Sorry... I kind of have a few homework assignments that I haven't exactly gotten around to yet."
"You've been hanging around Rainbow for a while haven't you?" I asked with a raised eyebrow. There was another pause.
"Maybe," she replied softly. I shook my head and propped myself up against the headboard of the bed and brought my knees up to my chest.
"Not surprised... What have you two been doing this time?"
"Apart from playing one on one in the new Daring Do video game, and her showing me all these comics about the Maniac... Oh, and binge watching the Daring Do series through Skype... Well... Nothing else," she chuckled nervously. I couldn't help but feel... Jealous of how much time the duo have been spending together.
"As long as you're having fun," I bit my lower lip and picked at the stray threads of my socks. There was a moment of silence through her line.
"Hey... If you're tired you should really get some rest," Sunset finally said with subtle hints of surprise in her voice.
"Why do you say that?"
"Oh... Well, you usually get after me for slacking off. So either something's wrong, or you're just tired. Which is it?"
I narrowed my eyes and felt myself yawn. Sunset chuckled. Even if we were miles apart, I could still imagine her smiling as if she were in front of me in this moment.
"Tired, huh?"
"Mhm." I stretched my legs and sunk into the cozy sheets of my bed before pulling the blue blanket over myself.
"Boring... Heh, just kidding. Sweet dreams, Twi. I'll see you at school tomorrow," Sunset responded with a soft voice. I faintly smiled to myself and kept my phone nearby as I struggled to press the end button. I was far too tired to keep trying and instead let my arms and body go limp, succumbing to the exhaustion at last.
