9. Hugs
♪ hugs ♪
A hug is way better than a kiss.
It's better than any other feeling.
People these days don't realize its importance,
Don't understand the need
For human contact.
When I hug him after
A long day of work, I'm home.
He opens his arms wide
When I enter the apartment
And wraps them around me.
I cradle my head
In the crook of his neck
And breathe deeply;
The smell of his lemon-flavored soap
Fills my lungs.
His warmth slowly seeps
Into my body
Through his soft t-shirt,
Returning the heat that
The breeze outside had stolen from me.
His fingers are interlaced;
His hands are on the small of my back.
Mine are on his chest,
Hard as iron yet better than
Any comfortable pillow.
My heartbeat has slowed somewhat.
His breath tickles my face.
I close my eyes and go blank,
Focusing on nothing but
The feeling of his body
Pressed against mine.
Without saying a single word,
He can express so much.
He turns his head slightly
To look at me.
The corners of his mouth
Turn down a bit, yet he's smiling.
It's a thing about him
That I love a lot:
His smile is slightly crooked.
This, and the one dimple
That appears on his left cheek.
And the crinkles that appear by his eyes.
Finally he releases me.
"Wine?" he asks, and grinning,
I follow him into the kitchen,
And I wonder how people
Can take hugging for granted,
How they can hug someone
And not be moved by it,
How they can hug someone
And not feel the tension
Physically leave their bodies.
Why, it's the feeling I live for.
