1. Labyrinth
♪ labyrinth ♪
I went to a circus once.
The clowns reminded me
Of my mother
Sitting in the backyard
Under the stars.
No, they didn't look alike
But she was a clown nonetheless
With a glass bottle by her side
Filled with bitter brown liquid,
Pungent smoke
Rising from her lips.
Angry red scars
Circled her wrists
Where she'd cut herself.
My brother and I watched her
Die a little everyday
From the pain of
A broken heart.
She wasn't living anymore.
None of us was.
We all had become
Corpses of what we used to be.
There was no more laughter
Echoing within the brick walls
Of our house.
The fire that had warmed
Our souls
Was now nothing more
Than embers.
We were cold inside.
Our mother, carrying a
Shattered heart in her chest.
And us, chasing people and
Begging for pennies,
Which she later spent
To buy more whiskey.
No, we all were clowns,
Running around on this
Stage called life,
Trying to understand our roles.
Trying to find our way through
The labyrinth, and
Failing miserably.
