Homecoming

---- In New York ----

Nikita hated New York the smell, the atmosphere and pretty much all of her least favorite people lived here. Speaking of which. She rang the doorbell of the rundown house she was standing in front of, again. She rang it at least once every minute for five minutes, when it finally opened she felt the urge to just punch the guy who opened it but she was there for a reason.

"Hi, Gary."

"Hi, Gary?" He chuckled at the greeting. "That's a nice touch, honey, but I ain't buying anything."

"Ah, all right." She took off her sunglasses. "Let's try this again. Hi, daddy." His eyes widened

"Nikita!" She grabbed him by the throat and pushed through the doorway as he tried to close it. When she pushed him into the living room she tossed him at the couch. when he righted himself she waited for him to respond in some way. When he didn't it became obvious she would have to carry the conversation for as long as she needed to all by herself. So she looked around at the room seeing a picture of the only person she ever liked in this house. She picked it up and turned back to Gary still looking at the picture.

" Wow." She said completely unsurprised. "You really let this place go after Caroline died." When Gary tried to stand she grabbed him by the wrist and twisted it putting pressure on the bone. He groaned in pain when she didn't let go and just kept squeezing tighter.

" I guess no more foster kids like me to clean up your crap, either." She snapped his wrist and he yelped in pain as she tossed him back on the couch.

" You-you broke my friggin' wrist! Ah! "

"Sit up, Gary. Try to pay attention, okay? I need to tell you what happened to me after I ran away."

"It starts off like you'd expect, and then it gets a little weird. After I ran away, I got with a pretty bad crowd. Did a lot of drugs. Anything that made me forget about you." She looked at him accusingly, hating that she was getting a sadistic joy whenever she saw him look scared or guilty.

"Nikita, baby, that was 10 years ago."

"It was 11. I'm 27 now. If you call me baby again, I'll break something else." When Gary looked sufficiently cowed she continued.

"They told me I killed a cop. I don't remember. I've tried to. I'd just turned 18, so they were able to charge me with murder one. I was sentenced to die by lethal injection.

"No friggin' way." She smiled at that.

"Trust me. You'll want to save your 'no friggin' way' for the next part, where my execution was faked by a secret unit of the government called 'Division'. They told me they were giving me a second chance. They told me I'd be serving my country. What they didn't tell me was they were training me to be an assassin. They're probably telling some other girl the same thing right now. It was a year of training before my first mission, sort of like a military charm school." She hesitated, debating if she needed to say what she was about to, but Gary hasn't touched the phone yet. "Everything to make me the best killer I could be till I broke one of their rules."

"What rule?" He said obviously trying to distract her.

" I fell in love... With a civilian. His name was Daniel." She turned around giving Gary time to contact Division.

"After 3 months together, all I wanted to do was be with him. Live a normal life but Division couldn't have that, so they killed him and made it look like an accident."

"Why are you telling me all of this?" He interrupted trying to keep her turned around, she of course turned, and looked him right in the eye. She crouched in front of him grabbing the hand he was trying - and failing - to hide the phone in.

"You know why, Gary. They're still after me. And I know they've been keeping tabs on you in case I showed up. It's okay." She said lifting the phone up to his face.

"I want them to know I'm here. I want you to tell them everything I just told you. I want to send them a message.
It ends now."

---- New York, Michael's POV Several Hours Later ----

Michael already had a headache from listening to this guy.

"Yeah, well understand this, the FBI is paying for all this damage, 'cause this is going a bit beyond the call of duty." Gary said angrily. Roan walked through the living room into the bathroom probably to size up the bathtub.

"Hey! Hey! She didn't go into the bathroom!"

"Did she say anything else?" Michael said drawing his attention back to him.

"Man, we've been over this."

"What do you think she meant by 'it ends now'?"

"I don't know. 'Cause I kinda lost focus once she went into the whole James Bond thing.

"I'm talking about her tone. Was she tired? Did she want to surrender? Did she want to give up?"

"Man, I wasn't concentrating on her tone, 'cause my wrist-PEW " Gary fell to the ground dead after Roan shot him with his silenced pistol.

"I'm all set. Don't worry, I'll clean it."

"Roan," Michael said exasperated. "I was talking to him."

"Nikita knew what we would have to do. I don't think she liked this guy."

---- Nikita POV ----

She placed the ring Daniel gave her what felt like so long ago on his grave, forcing herself not to cry. They'd be coming for her soon and she'll be ready.

---- Birkhoff POV ----

"It's Nikita." Birkhoff said excitedly, she hid herself for three years but they've got her now.

"It's definitely her?" Percy asked skeptically. When would people stop doubting him? He hacked into the Pentagon for God's sake.

"I got a hit on the pressure sensor, pulled up Athena-sat, boom. Took her 3 years, but she's finally paying her respects."

"That, or she's finally snapped. Go ahead and assemble a team. We're in closer proximity to her here than Michael is."

"She had a good run. Won't be another one like her."

"Don't be so sure." Percy said icily.

Birkhoff wasn't sure what to take from that statement, Division could barely handle one Nikita.

---- Birkhoff ----

Sitting in the passenger seat of a very conspicuous black van, Birkhoff was looking through a satellite right at Nikita's current location.

"Position is unchanged. Use caution. She will be armed.. Bye, Niki."

"Execute." The leading agent said, then he heard countless gunshots. 'A bit overkill.' He thought.

Over the gunshots he didn't notice the back doors of the van open or the woman who crawled inside, not until she put a gun to his head at least.

"Hey Birkhoff, you mind telling your friends where I'm not?" Nikita said patronisingly. When he hesitated she pushed the gun into his head. Then he followed her orders frantically.

"Target on the move! Target on the move. North gate, north gate! Radio back when you have visual."

"Good boy, Birkhoff."

"What are you gonna do?"

"You'll see." Then everything went black.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<•>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

When Birkhoff regained consciousness the first thing he noticed was that there was a bag on his head, then it was gone and he was blinded by the light shoved in his face. When his vision cleared. He saw face he really didn't want to see.

"Congratulations, Birkhoff. You found me." Nikita said, then she reached to a little steel tray next to her with a syringe.

"What is that? Truth serum?" He asked trying - and failing - to keep the slight panic out of his voice.

"It's pain desensitizer. I don't want you passing out on me."

"So, what, you gonna torture me? Is that it?"

"Not if you tell me what I need to know."

"Well, I always told you were hot.
You know that." He said in true Birkhoff fashion.

"I want access to Division's network.
Log-ins, passwords-"

"Bitch, just skip to the part where you kill me."

"No." Birkhoff groaned already fed up with this situation.

"Seriously, do it! Because if I give you those codes, Percy will kill me."

"Shut up!" She said punching him in the face. He breathed in, then breathed out. It didn't help.

"What do you want with the network? It hasn't been much help finding where it was you've been hiding out." He said sarcastically.

"I'm not hiding anymore." Nikita said with finality.

"Then what are you doing? You're not trying to come at us, are you?" He couldn't help but laugh at the look on her face, it was so serious and determined.

"Man. Niki - Niki, you're insane."

"Don't call me Niki."

"Then don't call me nerd. Remember you used to call me that?" He looked for a reaction he didn't get one.

"Patch me through to Michael, nerd.
This computer's busted, fix it, nerd. Place ain't the same without you, babe."

"Then let's burn it down."

"You seriously think you can burn down Division all on your own?" He said in disbelief.

"Who says I'm on my own?"

"So you playing for the other side now? Well, if you got such big guns on your side backing you up, what do you need me for?" Birkhoff really wasn't seeing the point in her kidnapping him.

"Well, because they may be able to get me the intel I need. But I know you can get it."

"Well, then we're right back where we started." He said cheekily. "Just understand, if you do this, you're going to have to kill your way through a whole lot of people you know.
Starting with me... Niki." Then everything went black, again.

---- Michael's POV, riding around in a black surveillance van. ----

"We've got Birkhoff. The signal interference is gone. His tracking implant's back online." One of the techies said.

"Let's hope it's still inside him." Michael wasn't really hoping for that, he doesn't like Birkhoff.

---- Birkhoff POV ----

He was swaying back and forth still even though she left him here on a friggin horsey! An hour ago!

Then Michael and a few other guys with rifles ran up looking around for something to shoot at, but Michael just walked right up and watched him go back and forth, deciding to ignore him for now he addressed the other people.

"She's long gone, guys. Good hustle, though. Very nice." Then no one acknowledged him.

"Someone want to get me off this?" They still ignored him.

"Michael, a little help here?"

"I'm just going to enjoy this a little longer."

Birkhoff gave up.
