1|☕️| shades of blue

The magic of emotions is something quite complicated. It all comes around with this little process called the science of the brain. Sentiments aren't received by the heart or even well thought out by the heart. It's the chemicals in our mind that lets us have a 'high' like trance whenever we love. It's that adrenaline hormone that our brain constructs into our nerve system to help us in a life or death situation.

The same brain is all you need to make the body do what it needs to be done. If you make the brain stimulate fear, then the whole body reacts with an accelerated heartbeat and a sick feeling in the stomach.

The body is the product of a fantastic work of complicated creation where the human needs what the body can produce. The good and the bad, even the pain and the hurt.

The human body is also the sole source of my well being

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Leaning against the wooden bar was all my body needed to cage the thirst, I was feeling at the moment. All of the people in our café were carrying different shades of blue, their hidden misery.

Girls with swollen red eyes, recently crying, sitting with a group of girlfriends. A couple of guys just stuck in their computers, wearing more of a navy colored blue. Then there were recently divorced women whom their dark midnight blue aura just took the very breath out of me.

I hadn't noticed my fingers were digging into the wood until my brother placed his hand on my shoulder.

"Easy Ari," He soothed me, but that's just because he had recently fed on a dumped prom queen fifteen minutes ago.

I shoved him away discreetly and gave him a glare, "Shut it, Lance."

"I know you both aren't using any form of violence in a relaxing cafe shop." The shadow of my father appeared right behind me, and I knew that whatever irritation I had, I needed to shove it down in my mind.

"No." We said in unison.

"Great, now Ariel your table has been waiting for their frappe for over fifteen minutes. I suggest you make hast." My father's eyes shone their slight tint of blue hue. I gave him a fake apology grin and turned around. I lightly placed my forefinger on the edge of the cup. My runes carefully appearing on my hands, showing the extraction of my essence as it dripped into both frappes.

I then grabbed the finished frappes and tried to wrestle my way through the walkway. But like always my idiot brother was being a total idiot and purposely arched his back so his butt would be in the way.

"That is really mature of you." I hissed under my breath at him, pretty sure that my father was close by. Even if my first instinct was to dump the stupid frappe's on his face.

"You should lighten up a bit Ari." Was the last thing my brother said before he went off to his duties. By duties, I meant hitting on any possible living girl.

I made my way through the tables back at the couple who had a grim look on their face. It' not that I could accurately read their minds without touching them, but I could tell by the way the woman rubbed on her ring finger and the way they weren't looking at each other's eyes. That the couple was probably going through a breakup- divorce.

"Did you ever think about what the kids would think when you leave the house? I know that we are doing this behind their backs, but they're bound to know Joseph." The woman's voice broke a bit, and that was my cue to intervene.

"I'm deeply sorry about the delay in your drinks." I placed the two frappe's right in front of them and went ahead and distributed them. I could feel her misery, and it was making my instincts go a bit haywire.

She took a sip of the frappe and almost immediately I was in tune with her

thoughts, her emotions.

I swallowed a bit of saliva before I looked over at the young woman. "As a part of our café ritual, I would like to read your palm, if I may," I said to her with a small smile on my face. I wasn't really the type of person that just smiled because it was on instinct. Smiling to me was more like a duty so that I wouldn't scare away my dinner.

The woman looked at me lost and confused, "Oh right, I hear your coffee shop does that, but it's okay. I don't think I need it." The woman gave me her fake smile. I was going to be persistent with this woman for my reasons: I was starving.

"Sometimes you need a little peak in the future helps with going on in another day," I say to her softly, the man had picked up a phone call and was no longer paying attention to the woman. Her gaze looked over at him and back at me.

"Alright, it doesn't hurt to try." She gave me a soft smile and gave me her hand palm face up. I gave her a business-like smile before I gently took her hand. Instantly her pain and sadness were filling my taste buds. My eyes grew a light tit of blue before I read deep into her real desire. I held onto her hand as my forefinger traced the lines of her palm. Luring her into her most wanted dream.

"I see you happy," I whispered for only her to hear. As I traced her line of life, I let her see an image of her son playing with a handsome vibrant man. A man that isn't here sitting in front of her.

I took a deep breath as my chakras pulled onto her misery, feeding my core in a satisfying pleasure.

"You are destined to love again," I say as my finger slides across her hand following the patterns in her hand. I manipulate the vision, and she sees herself, on the balcony watching her new family, caressing her womb that had grown for six months.

"Time will make your wish come true." I murmured as I reluctantly let go of her hand. If I held on for too much, I wouldn't be able to pull her back to reality. The woman closed her eyes and gave me a small, reassuring smile.

"Thank you." She said, and the man had finally hung up the phone and turned right back to her.

"Call me when you're ready for the check ma'am." I gave her a polite smile before I turned on my heel and let them finish up their conversation.

"Wow, little sis you actually bagged a divorced couple. Those are extremely hard to sway." My brother once again was by my side when I was busy cleaning up the coffee machine.

"That's because I love challenges that hold true emotions. Not some skimpy skinny prom queens that the only real sorrow is getting dumped." I snapped at him, making my movements much more abrupt.

"And that's why half of the time you're starving." He countered. Which he was right on that point. I don't like being who I am when it comes to giving someone what they really wish. The things I see and what I absorb are two complete opposites. It's different to feed on a real sadness than from grief that is just materialistic. But then again father keeps on telling me that it's just my pride talking, that we have to assimilate ourselves for survival.

At the end of the day, the woman seemed more content and relaxed. Even her partner saw the difference, which made him extra more chivalrous. As I cleaned up the shop, for it was my turn, I just watched the humans outside. Some living in their own way. Some were happy that the day is over. Some just walking because it is what they're meant to do.

As I wiped the tables clean, I kept on thinking to myself, what if humans stopped struggling? What would happen if humans stopped walking around like machines with only one operation? What if they realized the secret in finding the pleasure in living?

I'm a djinn, a being who cannot keep on living without depending on the emotions or blood from humans. I'm an unstable being that's mere existence has been to survive with what is given to me. What would happen if they learn that the struggles they face now, are just a little grains of rice that just so happen to fall on the floor?

"When will my life begin?" I whispered to myself as I kept on gazing at the chalkboard. Looking at my father's quotes from some life book he started reading. My hue runes slightly appearing by my command. One day, I won't have to hide who I am.
