"She won't magically appear, you know," Jisoo's voice interrupted his thoughts. Jungkook stood back straight and turned, wiping the counter that clearly doesn't need wiping. "You can stare long and hard all day if you want, it still won't help," She chuckled.

It's frustrating. He's been anticipating to see her face again but it's been 2 days since their talk at the alley and Lisa hadn't been at work. Where is she? He purposely hovered along the roads up the hill too – just in hopes that he'll bump into her but still, not a sight of her. Is she alright? Is she sick? Or is it me? Is she having regrets of telling me that she wanted me closer? Those little shy hops away didn't look like it though...

Jisoo stops in front of him and sighs, "I think I prefer the cryptic Jungkook than this sad puppy. You look pathetic,"

"This pathetic face's been your selling point for months," He rolled his eyes in return.

"No...the cold and mysterious face was my selling point and I repaid him by letting his brother and all of his cousins loaf around this shop free of charge," She glanced at the far end table, where Taehyung, Jimin and Yeji sits comfortably. "Why are you daydreaming still? I thought you said you knew better. Look at Yeji, she seems to like you,"

The sarcasm is not lost in him. "That's disgusting...she's my cousin,"

"Oh, please...Jin showed me the family-tree and they're not even your second or third cousins,"

"Still...Tae's like a brother to me,"

"It didn't stop her from clinging onto you every time,"

Jungkook can't help but laugh. "Noona, she's a kid. And a spoilt one too – can't you see why Tae's always keeping her close?"

He watched the elder squinting her eyes. "Didn't see it. Don't care. But I wonder...why does she go around everywhere with you when, as you said, it's her brother that's keeping her close? Seems a bit sketchy to me! Come on, be honest...you got a lil something going on with her?" That smirk is damn annoying!

"Hell no! I only gave her a ride when Tae has some chick with him,"

"And how the hell would anyone know that?" She raised her eyebrows, as if hinting something.

Ahh shoot! Jungkook took a deep breath, trying hard to suppress his frustrated groan. Lisa must've thought the same! Yeji showed up that day and she must've thought something! Hell - if it's not already bad enough that I can't keep explaining myself well to her, now she thought it through and thinks I have a girlfriend? What kind of bad luck is this??

"Don't look so down about it, loverboy! It's not like I keep track on your dating life,"

"Ckk I don't care what you think!" He snarls back.

"Of course you don't. But you probably care what the princess is thinking and as a woman, I can tell you...she probably thought the same," That little wink is testing. How dare she walks away after telling me that – aishh this is ridiculous!

Jungkook stares out to the ice-cream shop again but all he could see is Sehun – grinning widely at 2 girls in their school uniforms. That face deserves more than just coffee and a trip down salt water but...at least he's normal...he doesn't have anything to hide, unlike us.

One thing that Jungkook was sure of after his talk with his father is that having to see her and not being able to do anything made his chest heavy and his breath cold. And now he's not even seeing her at all so the past 2 days have been raining and he'd hear complaints in the morning dews. He didn't like the whining at all!

What is it with this girl that drives me mad? He's never been so invested...so consumed in his need for companionship like he does with her. Perhaps he's been keeping this crush for so long that he overlooked the idea that she's 'just another girl'. Or perhaps...the most part of him knew that she isn't.

She didn't fall on his tricks. His hypnotizing charms failed for the very first time on the evening they first met, and countless after. The flower was supposed to fall into her palm and blocks out everything else in the world except for him but it didn't. Maybe Taehyung's right...that the drunkenness in him made his power weak, he's still unsure of it all.

"Don't make it rain, buddy! I still got work to do,"

"Don't you have better things to do than shredding my pride all day? It's like you enjoy it," He scratched his head, annoyed at being clueless on things.

Jisoo's smile and shrugged shoulders validates his sentiments. "Anyway...while you throw yourself a pity-party here, I'll be off,"

"That's early. You got a date with hyung or something?"

"Pshh please. I wish I have a date with him! I can't even remember what a date's all about," She snickered. "Hate to break this good news to you but I'm catering for your princess's birthday this evening,"

He quickly perks up and starts chasing up behind her. "Today? It's her birthday today??" No wonder she was so sure that Lisa won't show up! "Wait, why didn't you tell me?? Do you need extra hands? I can help! I can serve or – or prep -"

"Oh wow...when have you ever been so kind, offering to help me with my catering?"

She's right, I'd never! Jin didn't lie when he said his wife is an independent 'breadwinner'. From the moment she got here, she's been nothing but actively working – applying the loan for this coffee shop, leaving pamphlets and her catering service outside everyone's doors and the Tourist Centre...

"Noona, you owe me this! You kept it to yourself for this long –"

"You came by the house and saw me prep the pastries. You didn't even ask,"

"Please...I'll do anything!" He reaches for her elbow, earning a death glare when she turns around. A few seconds later, she switches into a sly smile.

"I thought you said you don't cry for any girl?"

"I don't!"

"Good, cus I need you to take care of the coffee shop while I'm out,"

"What?? Come on – you're the one who's been bugging me to man-up –"

"Yes, you can man-up when I don't have to leave the shop," She turns back and hangs her apron against the wall. "I told you...chances don't come whenever you want them to, pup!"

What?? "When did you tell me that??" It's no use as Jisoo left his dumbfounded self and saunters happily out of the store.

I know she's laughing at me and I hate her for it! Scanning back to the shop's floor, his eyes rest on his brother and cousin. An idea started cooking really quick in his rascal mind and it seems like the best so far. They'd probably kill me for even asking but...the hell with it, I'm desperate! I need to do this! I'm doing this and no one can tell me otherwise!!

"Joon hyung's not coming today, right?" He asked, just as Jimin and Taehyung closes the kitchen door behind them.

Taehyung scratched his head. "Not that I know of. He was with his dad when I left, said he had to help Jin hyung look out for eomma Hee. I don't know what happened but I guess she had another crazy dream –"

"Great! I need you guys to help me out,"

Jimin frowned – most likely to his little brother's apathetic behavior but again, he's desperate! "Help you with what?"

"Noona just left. I need one of you to mirror me –"

"What??" Both of the elders gaped.

"Only for an hour or so –"

"No!"

"Tops! An hour tops – please!! No one will know –"

"We're not supposed to use our powers in public, the heck is wrong with you??"

"Please, save that crap for someone else! We use it almost every day!" Did they honestly forget that their 'charms' were a part of their powers? Maybe they did...seeing how they're so used to it!

"One on one, not in a shop filled with people!"

"No one will know – just...please, I...I'll take over of your chopping chores and -" He looks over to Taehyung. "Whatever you want, name it!"

His brother and cousin glare in silence – Jimin folding his arms and pursing his lips. Even so, they didn't scare Jungkook one bit. He knew them well enough to not be intimidated. When Jimin took a deep breath and hung his head back, he knew the elder had caved in.

"Thirty minutes –"

"No way - you're actually agreeing?" Taehyung gasped at Jimin.

"Forty-five," Jungkook begs.

"You can keep a watch on your sister," Jimin points to Taehyung before turning back to him. "And if anyone comes up with a new order –"

"Coffee-machine's broken. Brewed ones in the fridge, ice's in the freezer. No hot drinks. Pastries as displayed only,"

"And the cash register?"

"Passcode's three-thousand, nineteen. I doubt you need help on counting money," He grinned.

"Don't act all cute, it's pissing me off!"

"Thank you!! I'll be back before you know it!" Jungkook took his apron off and hangs it around Jimin's neck gleefully.

"You better pray Yeji don't ask me anything! I'd hate to blank my sister out -"

"Just tell her I'm busy and put her in place like you always do! Be her big brother for real, for God's sake!"

Taehyung hissed before asking, "Where are you going, anyway?"

He turns back with a cheeky smile just as he reached the back door. "It's better that you don't know,"

...

In the still, serene waters of her bath tub, her heavy liquid eyes opened when she hears the faint echoes of someone, shouting for her name. With a rush, Lisa surfaces and gulps a mouthful of air.

"Miss Lisa? Your mother's been calling for you," She hears Edith's call from the outside of her bathroom door.

"Coming!"

It's going to be a hectic day but Lisa is tired. Her days off was spent by accommodating to her mother's excitement on planning her 20th birthday celebration and as if that wasn't high-energy-consuming enough, she hasn't had a good sleep for the past 2 nights. As much as she's happy to be another year older than she was yesterday, she can't help but just wanting to sleep it off.

"I'm sorry, miss Lisa. But madam's been asking –"

"The only thing you need to be sorry for is by still calling me 'miss'. I told you...just Lisa is fine,"

"I'm good with consistencies, miss Lisa. If I get used to calling by your name and your mother hears it, she will probably chase me out,"

"She won't do that...she loves you too much," Lisa said, sitting on her bed where her dark blue gown lays with.

"I'm still just a helper," Edith kneels in front of her, holding her knees with a look of concern. "Did you not sleep well again?"

The 43-year-old and her husband have been in the same house with her parents for probably longer than Lisa had throughout her teenage years and she's only started pampering Lisa since the girl moved in 2 years ago, but the woman have been nothing short of motherly to her. She could even say that her honesty was best spoken to Edith, out of all.

"Strange dreams...there's blood but I wasn't scared,"

"Is it the same as the other one?"

"No..."

These reoccurring dreams started when she came back from the Spring festival. In the second, she was met with the edge of Dukke forest again while Jungkook was in it. A contrast of rubbles and dirt – spiraling like a hurricane above her before an air-like explosion blasted in the clouds. It felt like time had stood still then, and she saw the debris scattered – floating in mid-air.

Last night, she was in a place that she had never seen or been before. It's like she was in the woods...or an empty area in the middle of the woods. There was no one else and when she raised one hand, there was blood. A little drip fell and a field of fresh, green grass and beds of flowers started appearing – surrounding her existence. And she heard a sound...or rather, a voice - calling out for a name,

"Duri," She frowned upon recalling it. It seems to be sticking well in her mind...longer than any historical names for that matter. "Have you heard of the legend?"

"No, I've never heard of it...but I can ask Patrick if he knows," The maid assures her with a smile.

Ahh stupid of me to ask! Of course, the likeliness of them knowing anything about the history of this town is as slim as her own since all the workers in this house are foreigners, just like them. Why was Jungkook in my dream, anyway? Freud's theory stated that dreams represent unconscious desires...wishful motivations, driven by repressed and unconscious longings.

I'm not even sure what I longed for -

"Don't think about it too much. It's your day so let's enjoy it, okay? Now...a few guests have arrived. Shall we get you dressed?"

...

Lisa felt like she had dived into a well and ended up in a world that isn't hers. She doesn't recognize almost 90% of the eyes in the room on her and she's not sure how else to act aside from what was expected out of her. With every step taken and hand-shake given, she plastered a polite smile until her cheeks grew numb.

"Happy birthday!" She spun around and met with Chaeyoung's big smile.

"Oh my God – you're finally here!" She gave her friend a hug. "I'm so glad you came! I was thinking how long I could keep this up," She whispered in a slight laugh.

"Yeah I thought I walked into a ball just now. Thank heavens my hem is lower than my knees!" Their eyes screens around the many older-looking men and women, chattering in fine suits and classy dresses. "Look at you! I don't think I've ever seen you so dolled up!" Chaeyoung scans the ball-gown she was made to wear.

"I feel so stupid in this, really. My mom insisted and I..."

"You look perfect, babe! Just like a princess which is apt cus jeez – look at this place! It's like a freakin castle! Wait - is that..." Her friend's eyes widen and her jaw dropped. "You hired Jisoo for catering?? She makes the best pastries in town!"

Lisa looks past her right shoulder, to the canapés served in beautifully-crafted tiers on the long buffet table. The many servers stood elegantly while waiting for their trays to be filled, and the ones behind it works diligently – explaining to a few guests what the food actually is. In an all-white chef's uniform and toque, Jisoo checks on the display and rushed back into the kitchen.

A part of her is still regretting the fact that she had not said a word to the chef while the other is just telling her to shrug it off. She'd seen Jisoo with Jungkook before and she could tell that they're close. How close? - that's the part she's afraid to find out!

"My dad...pretty much everything was set by my parents,"

"Oh, you lucky –"

She didn't hear the rest of what Chaeyoung has to say as the friend has already left her for food. Lisa can only sigh her own smile, knowing full well that it's useless to stop her. From the corner of her eyes, she caught a glimpse of shadow passing through from outside of the high windows, behind the cream-colored curtains. Lisa looks around to see if anyone else noticed it too and when it's clear that no one did, she made her way there.

The main window was normally kept open but for this evening's occasion, they closed it to avoid any strong wind coming in. It is situated at the edge of the hill's bank on purpose – overlooking Sanheoli and allowing the first rise of sunshine in. On days when her father would rest, he'd sit there – on the same rattan rocking-chair that her mother sat the other night, being all sentimental and tearful.

She peeks out from the curtain and found nothing but the town and the vast blue sky. Must've been a bird... She didn't know what she was expecting but that shadow looked bigger. Like a person...aish...my mind's playing tricks on me! How can a person fly across this window – come on, Lis! She sighs down and was about to leave when something catches her eyes.

The walls of the ground on which the house rests on seem to be protruding outwards – bulging like vertical stalactites. She can't recall if it has always been that way and from where she's standing, they looked like giant stairs. Lisa tries to look out to the left, wondering if there are more but she was stopped with a tap on her shoulder.

"Lis, I'd like you to meet Mr Jackson Wang. He's one of the shareholders of The Crown, the hotel that we're planning to develop near Sanheoli Botanical Garden," Her father smiles forward to the brown-suited gentleman now standing in front of her. "This is my daughter, Lalisa,"

"Nice to meet you...Miss Lalisa," The handshake was soft but lingering. "Happy birthday. I would've presented you with the gifts I brought myself, but they said to place it among the rest at the entrance," Jackson's tanned skin emphasizes his twinkling eyes, friendly smile and strong jawline.

"Ahh you didn't have to go through the trouble, Mr Jackson...but thank you for the wish, and for taking the time to be here," She thought of how young Jackson is to already be a shareholder of some importance but is quickly reminded that her father's connection is bigger than Sanheoli itself. Jackson Wang is probably another heir, rising to the expectations of his own parents.

"It's my pleasure, and an honor really. Marco had been so generous and helpful since I got here,"

She finds it weird that this Jackson Wang is calling her father by the first name as all the other new, young acquaintances have been referring to him as 'Mr Manobal', but she kept that question to herself.

"How long have you been in Sanheoli?" She asked as her father was greeted and dragged away by someone else.

"Just a week,"

"Oh?" Just a week and he's already calling dad 'Marco'? "And how do you like it?"

"It's...different, I must say!" He lets out a little laugh. "I've been here before...once, last year. I wondered if it's still as...gripping. I guess nothing stays the same for long,"

There's a change in the way he speaks now...almost cocky, if she were to trust her own guts. And the way his dark brown eyes smiles with an unknown, unsettling emotions makes her uneasy. 'Gripping'? It's hardly the first word that comes into mind when I was first introduced to Sanheoli. Is he criticizing daddy's works?

"So if it's not up to your expectations, why would you have the hotel built here?"

"I didn't say that it's not up to my expectations,"

"You didn't have to say it. You sounded as if you were disappointed. There's a balance of both here, if you make time and effort to see it,"

He raises an eyebrow, clearly amused by her sharp tongue. "I just had a different vision of it, that's all. You're welcomed to change it...maybe show me this balance you talked about some time," He moves closer and she can't help but look away.

It's probably the lack of sleep and the added annoyance but not even a second after, Lisa suddenly felt like the floor had started to spin slowly. Her sensory are messed up as she tries to focus in between whispered chattering and loud laughs – the room itself felt like it's beginning to distort, yet everyone's expressions and behaviors remained the same.

"I'm sorry...you'll have to excuse me,"

...

She shuts the door of her bedroom and took a deep breath, trying to calm the heaviness in her head and chest. No one seemed to mind her quiet escape from the grand foyer just now so she thought she could stay up here for a while. The crowd is clearly, only there for her parents anyway and her only friend was busy admiring the buffet so she doubts that her short disappearance will cause any chaos at all!

Lisa walked straight to the opened balcony and rests her arms on the rail. The farthest of sky is a contrast to the green mountains and her thoughts suddenly illuminates that of Jungkook. Perhaps that's why I've been lacking sleep...I should really stop thinking about him before the night ends. Longing...I've wasted almost a year of daydreaming the impossible! It's been a bumpy couple of weeks and I'm always feeling sick. What's wrong with me?

For the past few days, she felt like she could hear her mind straining under the weight of what her life is all about. She'd find herself wonder, is the girl that she was last year – or before she moved to Sanheoli – still here? What would that girl think of her now? Everything just felt so rigid and...alien. She's been far and away for too long and maybe home feels like a planet she's still trying to adapt to.

Is it what he said before - about seeing the world? It does sound tempting...so maybe all I really want is to walk around? Maybe I'm used to being cooped up...far from home and all I want is to walk...and look. At nature, arts, people and their culture – looking at beauty and feeling all of it – not just reading or dreaming about it. I wanna get lost...miles and time zones away. Won't that be magic?

She always imagined her parents as lights...as on a map, she'd see them glowing. She was honest with her mother, that the distance never mattered. When she decided to stay here, she didn't think of how different things will be. The love is the same – this, she has no doubt – but the more her father introduces her to this 'heiress's future' and her mother's constant, genuine praises of her obedience and so-called 'unmatched' beauty, the more she began to realize how different they are.

Lisa never thinks of herself as the 'brain' in her class...nor had she ever admired herself in the mirror. She just kept trying her best because that was what's expected out of her. But after hearing and digesting what her mother had said before, now more than ever, she wished she could just flip the darn table and just be...herself.

I don't think I've done much to earn such an extravagant birthday party! Who am I? What am I supposed to be? Or where should I go? Maybe I'm just tired. Another year older...with bigger things to comprehend. My mind's been messing with me, maybe that's all there is.

She walked back in and stopped at the edge of the bed. A bunch of freshly-picked flowers are tied together with a thin leaf right at the center of its stems, lays neatly on her pillow. The violet petunias had her breath hitched, but the small ixoras and white pinwheels calms it back. They're beautiful...who –

She finds Jungkook standing at the corner of her bedroom – right beside the door that she had came in from a few minutes ago. Lisa stopped breathing. He's wearing the coffee shop's polo shirt, half-tucked to his black jeans. His lips are pressed together, forming a thin line and looking just like someone would've looked when they're caught doing something mischievous.

"What are you doing here?" Her subconscious is smiling but she forced a frown.

"I found out that it's your birthday today so...happy birthday," He gestured back to the flowers.

For a second, Lisa felt speechless. A million questions rings in her mind but she couldn't form them into the right sequence. She forced it to work harder and -

"How did you get in here?"

"The door,"

The door? Was he at the foyer, dressed like that? Why didn't I notice him? Did he followed me up here then?

"I didn't notice anyone coming in –"

"Before. I came in before...I just wanna give you those flowers...as a gift,"

It should be nerve-wracking that she's here, in her bedroom...alone with a guy for the very first time in her life but for some reason, she wasn't afraid of him.

"And how did you know it's my room?"

"That's easy," He chuckled, walking closer towards her. "I didn't think the king-sized bed with it's plush red and brown decors would be your taste –"

"It could be," She snapped just because she's reminded of the many times she was left confused. The night he walked and sent her away. And when he gave that bottle of water...as if he knew I was in there being sick. He knew a lot about me...yet I was left with 'it wouldn't have happened otherwise' and questions of why that is. And then there's Yeji -

"Then let's just say I gambled my chances,"

The pretty grin and cute ruffling of his hair almost threw her back, but Lisa was half-determined to end...whatever this is.

"Thank you for the flowers, although you shouldn't have. They'd thrive more if romanticists stop counting on them to do all the hard work. I don't know why you'd gone through the trouble since –"

"You didn't show up," He took hurried steps and stopped only a feet away from her. "You weren't at work and I..." His eyes are shut, as if he's agitated by something. "I wondered...if you're okay. I seem to have upset you and I..."

Upset me? What – are we that close of a friend to begin with?? "You keep stalking me nowadays...I feel like I don't know when or where I'm gonna see you again...or deal with these weird things that you do,"

He opens them back and there's the blaze. "Weird things?" It's like he's smiling, but not quite.

"Yeah," She gulps, shifting her weight awkwardly from one foot to the other. "The flowers...the water...flirting with me in front of your little girlfriend," There. I said it.

"Miss Lisa?" There's no doubt that the knock on the door surprised them both, but Lisa finds her anxiety quick to respond. "Miss Lisa?"

She pulled Jungkook by his arm towards her vanity room and opens the sliding door of the wardrobe. It's a good thing that the guy complied as she nudged and pushed him inside, right before she enters and shuts the door close. Her heart is beating fast, hoping that Edith won't find her here with the stranger of the house. Imagine what daddy would say!

"Why am I here?"

She shushed him before whispering back, "If anyone finds you in my room, you'll be in a lot of trouble!"

"Okay...and why are you here?"

There's a sound of her bedroom door opened and she held her breath, fearing to be found. This is bad...I've never been alone with a guy in a room! What'll happen if they find us here...at my own birthday party and with daddy's associates –

She felt his fingers on her chin, tipping her face up. His eyes look like they're glowing, with the same grey color as that evening. She didn't realize how close they were pressed against each other before, but now she could practically feel his calm, warm breath on her cheeks. Such beautiful face...and eyes. Sparkling, determined eyes.

"She's my cousin. Not my girlfriend," He said firmly, as if it's an imperative fact to be known.

"Are you drunk?" To be honest, she wasn't sure how she can still speak. Her knees already felt weak under his ardent gaze. The same gaze he had when they met at the bus stop.

"No,"

"Then why are you looking at me like this?" She watches his intense stare falling down to her lips.

"Because you're beautiful,"

It feels warmer as each second passes. Something that she's never felt before – desire, spreading across her body. He's barely touched her yet she feels the pull, as if it's necessary for them to be this close. The footsteps get closer and she hears the slide of the vanity door, but she couldn't look away. She can only hear herself longing...for something...for him.

When he tilts his head closer, she warns, "Don't do it if you're gonna say you didn't mean it later,"

He gave a little smirk before answering, "That was a lie,"

His mouth swoops down just as she faintly hears her bedroom door closed. His lips felt right...just as it were the first time they kissed. Only this time, Lisa wanted more. Matching his pace, her hands unconsciously rises up – knotting in his hair. There's an air of tension and electricity, pulsing between them and drawing them together.

She felt the low, sexy sound of him groaning as his fingers roam around her back – rubbing and digging the thick layers of her corseted dress. She didn't know what came over her but right here and now, she wants nothing more than to fall into this blinding passion...only with him. She can only hope that he feels the same.

Jungkook breaks off the kiss, panting heavily as he rests his forehead on hers. "I don't like it when I can't see you. Or seeing you with someone else for that matter...I don't know why," His eyes are shut as he declares it.

She could somehow feel the frustration in his voice. "I'm sorry," It's all she could whisper once she catches her breath.

He held her at arm's length and she finally saw the genuine, warm smile. "I'm gonna be honest...I can't stop thinking about you. It's distressing, this thing that you're doing to me,"

"I could say the same about you,"

She felt his smile rather than seeing. "What are you doing tonight?"

"I..." She scrambles for the agenda in her mind. Well, forgive me for not being able to think right - this beautiful guy that I like just kissed me for the second time!! "I have dinner tonight...with my parents,"

"Tomorrow? Before sunrise,"

"Why?"

"Another gift. I need to show it to you – can you meet me at the fountain?"

Before sunrise? How do I go out before then?

"Please...you're gonna love it," His face looked so hopeful that she finds herself muttering 'okay' without second thoughts. He beams and suddenly pulls her into his arms, holding her tightly. "This is the best day of my life! Thank you!!"

Oh my! He's thanking me?? I should be the one thanking him! Having him kiss me and telling me that he can't stop thinking about me is already the best birthday gift, I don't even have to check out the other gifts!

"I need to go now. I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"

So soon? Why can't he stay longer? Yet, she nods – too overwhelmed with the excitement. He kissed her hand before opening the sliding wardrobe door and disappearing behind the vanity room. Lisa took her time to recollect what just happened, clasping both hands on her chest as she draws a couple of deep breaths to contain the butterflies in her guts. Her fingers made its way to her lips after, tracing the marks Jungkook had left.

I hope I'm not dreaming cus that was amazing! That kiss...his presence...how in the world did he managed to surprise me every single time?? Not more than 5 minutes later, she opens her bedroom door to find Edith – standing straight and shocked to meet her eyes.

"Miss Lisa, where were you?? I checked your room and it was empty!"

"I uh...I didn't hear you. Have you been here the whole time?"

"Yes! I couldn't go down there and inform madam that you were missing so I waited, just in case you'd come! Oh, thank heavens! I even sent Josie to search on other floors – don't worry me like that!! Now come!"

That's...weird...won't she be in more shock if she had bumped into Jungkook then? How did he leave?
