Another Excerpt from Eclipse
This is one is set the day after the previous chapter. So Bruce already talked to Emma and it's another school day.

I tucked my loose strands of blonde hair behind my ears, before putting on my coat, wrapping a scarf around your neck. All in various shades of black and grey. It was a shame that your ability only created things in tones, but you liked it that way. You liked it when things were in print black text.
Give him a chance, Emma. Dick cares about you. And, well, Jason and Barbara aren't really dead. Bruce's voice echoed in my mind.
Then why didn't you tell me? Why didn't he tell me? I may not have been as close as them, but they were still my friends. Even Dami. I remembered how I snapped at him. It wasn't really his fault. Bruce didn't know me, all he knew was that I was I was in the same uni as Dick. He didn't know how I held Dick as he cried about Babs. He didn't know how I helped him through his darkest moments, when he had an argument with Bruce and moved to Blüdhaven.
My fingers lingered as I tucked another stray hair behind my ears. Dick used to brush my hair back all the time. I checked my watch, and looked at the date. Great. Of all the days it could have been, it was Valentines Day. That meant I had to work overtime making valentines coffees at our university Starbucks. Not everyone lived in a mansion with a billionaire.
Hurrying to the shop, I felt someone push into me. I turned, and it was Jennifer. She was my co-worker, and worked alongside me as a barista. She used to crash at my place once in a while, when she argued with her parents, and was a good friend. "Hey Em, it's Valentines day!" Her high pitched voice squealed.
"Thanks, I couldn't tell." I muttered sarcastically, gesturing wildly at the pink and red balloons around us.
"Oh, come on, Em! Be more cheery! Maybe that dreamy blue eyed boy of yours will finally ask you out!" She continued to pester.
"I'm not talking to Dick." You grumbled. "Let's just get these orders done, and then get back to campus." Your hands worked like a robot, twisting the knobs and pressing buttons to create a perfect strawberry and yogurt frappuccino.
A tall boy walked in, and I averted my eyes as I noticed it was Dick. "What would you like?" I asked, my voice monotone as I said the same few words I had repeated over the last half an hour.
"You." He said simply, and I rolled my eyes.
I looked him straight in the eye and glared. "Dick, this is not a cheesy romance story. You kept secrets from me, and now you want me to go out with you? Sorry, Grayson, but being a playboy is on your resume, and this girl doesn't accept offers like that."
"You kept secrets too." He replied. "Don't act like you didn't."
I glared at him once more, before establishing a mental link with him, connecting your minds with a silvery wire. Do you know why I became Eclipse, Dick? Because I thought Babs died doing a good cause. And I wanted to do good. But do you know why I didn't tell you? Because you were too much of a spoiled rich kid with a tragic backstory to even try and do good. So what now, you turn out to be Nightwing, and I thought, oh, so he hasn't changed. He still flirts with the random vigilante that comes up and steals his job. So, don't. Don't even try, Grayson. You know why.
Dick's gaze fell, and he simply turned around and walked out. Jen walked up from beside me, and whispered. "So you guys had an argument?"
This time, I glared at her. "You think?"

I walked up to the campus, and I froze as I heard light footsteps pound up the stairs behind me. "So, are you going to ask her out?" I turned, and it was Cassie. Her blonde hair seemed duller now, since Tim was lost. They had been dating when it happened, and she had been left heartbroken. Sure, Tim was still alive, but his mind was gone.
"I tried." I stated, before I tried to budge past her. Funny, the times when you forgot simple facts. Like the fact that she had super strength and was Wonder Girl.
"Hey, hey, don't act all chalant on me now." She said, blocking your way. "What happened?"
"You used chalant wrong." I mumbled. "It's the opposite of nonchalant."
"I don't care, Grayson. Life is short remember? Make her yours. She clearly has a little thing for you." Cassie remarked.
"I asked, she rejected me, before pouring a speech into my mind. She knows who we are, Cass. She found out. She knows who I am, who Tim, Jason and Damian were and is, who Batman is, and I'm pretty sure Conner and Megan have both been exposed." I muttered.
"How?"
"She's Eclipse."
"The Eclipse? The vigilante that you could never catch?"
"How many else do you know?"
Cassie was looking at me firmly now. "I'll go talk to her, But you? You can't give up. So she's Eclipse. So she's helping you plummet the city's crime rate. So what? She's doing good, and I told you that you should have told her. Like how Tim told me at the end."
"He was exposed by Bart."
"And so was you. So, bring her in. Introduce her to the team. Get Bart to help, he's excellent at this stuff. Now shoo. I'll cover for you, Grayson. Shoo. Plus, you're in renial."
I groaned, but I ran back towards the Starbucks shop she worked at. She was just leaving, her gray eyes glaring at the floor, her platinum blond hair like strips of silver, lightly coating her head. I walked up to her, before putting on my best smirk. "You know you can literally stare a hole through the concrete if you want to, Em?"
"Don't Em me, Dick." she snapped back.
"Fine, I won't Em you. Doesn't mean I don't care for you." I replied, taking the risk of stepping one step closer.
"Is that what you told Zatanna? What you told Barbara?" I froze at those two names, and she gave me that devious smile. Where the corner of her lips would curve upwards ever so slightly, and eyes would twinkle. The smile that I had fell for. And not just a fling. I fell for her hard. "Oh please, I don't need to be a Mathlete Champion to put two and two together."
I smiled. She was smart, and I loved her for that. "I'd like to introduce you to a few of my friends. And thankfully, there's a zeta tube in the shed behind Starbucks, so, coming?"
She sighed, reluctantly, and I grinned even more. Walking up to the shed, she followed me, before I took her hand. "Looking forward for a good date?"
She slapped me hard, and before I could register is, she walked us into the zeta tube. The moment we arrived, alarms began to blare, right after your name was announced. "Override command!"
"Override alarm. Nightwing, B01. Unauthorized entry." We were met by the confused faces of most of the team. I stepped back, allowing Emma to take in everything. Wait, what happened to Emma?
In her place, instead of the usual Emma Hadley I was used to, she was already dressed in full Eclipse gear. She walked slowly, before pointing to each member that was there.
"Blue Beetle. I'm guessing that's Jaime.
Superboy. Conner, that's easy.
Miss Martian. Megan. That was way too easy as well.
Static. Virgil. You're not even wearing a proper mask!
Tigress. You're Artemis, since she showed up after Wally died. Why didn't you tell me either?
Beast Boy. Garfield. I mean, you always wear a hoodie to hide your face. It's pretty obvious.
Bumblebee. Karen.
Guardian. Malcolm, if that's Karen.
Kid Flash? Oh, you're the new one. You're Bart.
And I'm guessing the two of you are Lagoon Boy and Aqualad. I don't know you, so I guess I won't blame you. But all of you. You never told me. You never told me anything."
"And you are?" Conner asked, arms crossed.
She tapped her mask, and her mask vanished, as well as the black coating over her blonde hair. "Emma."
The team's reactions were mixed. M'gann wasn't surprised, and I was pretty sure she had already known. Karen, Malcolm, Garfield, Conner and Artemis just looked incredibly surprised. Bart shrugged, nonchalantly, and Jaime was just scratching his head, like he had no idea who Emma was. That wasn't his fault. Jaime had never met Emma in person.
"Woah! This is so crash! I finally get to meet Eclipse in person! The mysterious vigilante turned superhero Emma Hadley!" Bart yelled, before leaning towards Emma. "So, have you realized your psychic potential? Are you dating Nightwing yet? Oops, spoilers."
Emma drifted backwards a few steps, before her gray eyes bored into Bart's. "I prefer some personal space, please. And isn't Dick dating that other redhead? Kori, was that her name." She pressed a gloved palm to the exterior wall, and I could see the pulsing light from it. "Oh, that means she's Starfire. Where are we?"
How did she know about Kori? Oh well, she was Emma. I didn't even tell her anything about what happened in Blüdhaven, and she guesses everything.
"You're in the Watchtower. The League's top-secret base that circles the earth's atmosphere. Emphasis on secret." Batman's voice echoed, and she whirled around.
"Hi Bru-Batman." She corrected herself. "You mind telling me why I'm in this satellite of yours?"
"We want you to join the team." M'gann said. "Yes, I'm not stupid. That's why I was brought here before. Since we lost Batgirl and Robin as attackers, we're short of a few. You're not the only new one though. Soon you'll be meeting Arrowette. She's a new addition, and not exactly chatty."
"So you pulled me out of my university life to go on a mission with you. Thanks a lot, Dick." She grumbled, crossing her arms in a very Superboy-like way. She glared at me, and I stared right back. Her eyes were such a unique shade of grey: sometimes it was as soft as down feathers, sometimes it was as sharp as the shining blade of a knife.
"Not really a mission. Just wanted to show you the team, and ask you to join." I added.
"So, no reason."
Garfield spoke up, his childlike voice cutting through the tense atmosphere. "Why not play hide and seek?"
M'gann groaned. "Gar, we've talked about this. We're not kids anymore. Well you are, but the rest of us, not really. We're all in our early 20s already. Well, most of us."
"But please, sis?" Garfield's big green eyes stared into the martian's ones. "Think of it as a way to improve our stealth skills. We all know we're not brilliant at covert missions."
Karen coughed into her sleeve. "Cassie sure could use some training in stealth. Hmm, Bialya."
I looked up. "That's actually quite a good idea. Might also help smooth out any, tensions, in the group." I looked pointedly at Emma, but she wouldn't catch my eye. Squinting, I realized that there was a thin silver line that snaked across the floor, connecting Emma and Bruce. They were conversing in their minds. "Batman, Emma, stop excluding us from your conversation. That's rude."
"So was hiding your identity from me. So I'll call us even." Emma retorted. I hid a smile. That was the Emma I knew. Snappy, smart, fast.
"What were you even talking about?" I asked, ignoring her attitude.
Batman walked towards the door that linked our Young Justice team to the main HQ, where the League was based. "Nightwing and Beastboy are correct, as well as Bumblebee's speculation. I will leave you to it, while the rest of the League investigate some of Luthor's new public announcements." He walked out, leaving the rest of us in silence.
This time, it was Bart who broke it. "Not it!"
Apparently, it was unspoken that Virgil was going to be the seeker. I wasn't exactly close with one our newest members, and all I knew was that he could magnetize metal and shoot lightning out of his hands.
I took Emma to a side, and after she assessed the wall again, created a dark grey wall in front of us, so we were basically hidden. "Did Gar say anything about powers?" I asked.
"No. And don't worry, the wall isn't metallic, so Mr Static can't get through." She said, before linking us up again. Now, you have a lot of apologizing to do. Or I'm going to find a way to get back to campus and finish my art course.
As I said, very obsessed with DC Young Justice.
