Codie - Chapter 2
My alarm clock started blaring, nearly startling me straight out of bed.
I glanced up groggily and noticed that it was only 6 o'clock. Why did I always set it so early?
I climbed out of bed. When I'd finished in the shower I put on my favourite black skinny jeans and white jeans and headed downstairs.
I was ready for the day.
'Aren't you even going to have any breakfast?'
I looked at my annoyingly less tired - looking mother and narrowed my eyes.
'How come you look so refreshed?' I asked her.
She laughed at me. 'Well I didn't stay up until 11, that's why.'
'Humpf.' I gave her one last long look before grabbing my bag and heading out the door.
I hadn't even walked five steps when my phone beeped.
So here's the deal: I haven't got a lot of female friends, and the ones that I do have aren't particularly close to me. But that really doesn't stop the rest of the female college population from trying to cosy up to me just so they can get closer to Todd.
Don't get me wrong, some of them are really nice girls, but it kind of sickens me the way they blatantly use me just to get to a boy. I mean, it isn't so difficult to talk to Todd himself - he's actually quite nice, and wouldn't blow any of them off unless they were acting inappropriately - so why do they come to me?
I don't even know.
Amelia Sparks, college hottie, was a major example of a someone who was in my face 24/7. And when she was, it would all be Todd - related. Sigh.
She was one of those girls that looked gorgeous in absolutely anything and her long strawberry blonde hair was to die for.
But whenever I was near Todd you could pretty much guarantee that she'd be there too, trying to get me to direct his attention towards her. It was sad really.
Just to top it off, because I was Todd's best friend, they never bothered to harass any of the other girls in our group.
I looked down at my phone and groaned. She was also the one who had just texted me.
'Fancy coming to my house party on Friday?'
Another text:
'It's going to be a blast!'
Well I suppose that didn't really help.
Here I was going on about how 'uncliched' my life was and I get a text like that asking me to go to one of the biggest parties of the year.
What must you think of me now?
Another sigh.
I reluctantly texted her back:
'Sorry, I'm busy. Maybe another time.'
It was less than a minute before my phone beeped again.
'Do you think Todd will come?'
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
As you've guessed she also wasn't at all that subtle when it came to Todd - something that I could at least give some of the other girls credit for.
And now that the date for the party had been announced, I knew that today would be terrible in particular. Why? Because all everyone will be talking about is the party of course.
Which meant that girls from here, there and everywhere would be begging me to get Todd to go with them.
How fantastic.
I carried on walking. When I saw the college gates ahead I had to fight to keep my feet from going backwards.
I really didn't want to go in.
