Reporting For Duty

Third Person POV:

Six months after the mission in Istanbul

Bucky and Natasha's apartment, New York City

Six months later, the quiet streets of New York framed the somber atmosphere of Natasha and Bucky's home. The once lively space now held the echoes of grief, a profound silence that seemed to stretch through every room

Despite the passing months, the pain lingered, a constant reminder of a life that had been abruptly severed. Pictures of Y/N adorned the walls, capturing moments of a past that seemed simultaneously distant and painfully close

Natasha, though marked by the passage of time and the weight of loss, carried on with a quiet strength. She sat by the window, a place she often found solace, staring at the city skyline as if searching for answers in the distant lights

The relationship between Natasha and Kate had taken a drastic turn since the tragic incident on the train. The mission, which had initially united them, became a source of bitter contention. Natasha, in the depths of her pain, sought answers and, in some moments, a target for her anguish

In her eyes, Kate's hesitation had cost them dearly. The words "take the shot" echoed in her mind, and the consequence was a wound that wouldn't heal. The blame, whether rational or not, became a way for Natasha to externalize the torment within her

Every glass of wine, every tear shed in solitude, carried not just the weight of Y/N's absence but also the burden of a fractured friendship. Kate was Natasha's protegé when she first joined the CIA

As the world outside carried on, Natasha remained tethered to the memories, finding solace and sorrow in equal measure in the simple act of raising a glass to a son she could no longer hold. Natasha clung to the hope that perhaps, just perhaps, Y/N had found a way to survive. It was a slender thread of possibility that kept her looking over her shoulder, waiting for the door to open and reveal a son presumed lost

As Natasha sipped her wine, Bucky stood beside her, a silent pillar of support

Bucky: We don't know for sure. I mean, he could be out there. The bo-

Natasha, her eyes tired from the constant pain of uncertainty, cuts him off

Natasha: Buck...stop. He's gone. You're in denial...I get it. But he is gone. Not like any other times when he just ran from us. No...he's...he's gone. Not like Thomas...who I know is still around.

Natasha, sharing in Bucky's grief, moves closer and wraps her arms around him. It's a silent embrace, a shared mourning for the son they both loved and lost

She then receives a text from an unknown number saying: "Think on your sins"

In the midst of grief and uncertainty, Natasha's mind races with possibilities. Is this a taunt, a threat, or something else entirely?

Natasha: W-what is this?

Bucky: Uhh...Nat? I think you should see this.

Natasha looks at the TV screen and gets shocked

Natasha: Oh God...

Earlier that day...

London, England

After a meeting with Anthony Marshall, the Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee for a report after the fiasco in Istanbul and also to discuss M's forced retirement, M goes back to MI6's HQ, followed by Bill Tanner, MI6's chief of staff

They are in M's private car, a Black Jaguar when Tanner receives a call

Tanner: Yes. Now...Sir, alert from Q-Branch. Someone's trying to decrypt the hard drive.

(Played by Jude Law)

He turns on his laptop and sees the images, trying to locate the signal

Tanner: England...London...It's...it's coming from MI6.

M: What?

Tanner: The data packet is linking to our network. This is behind our firewall. Q...strip the headers and tace the source.

Q: On it...what the...

Tanner looks at the computer screen and just like Q, he gets confused

Tanner: It appears it's coming from your computer

M: Shut it down.

Tanner's computer screen fades to black with a message

Meanwhile, the car has come to a stop at a police checkpoint on Vauxhall Bridge. Seeing the MI6 building in the distance

M storms out of the car, furious at the police officer

M: For fuck's sake! Don't you recognize the car?

Policeman: Sir-

Without any warining, the top floor of the building blows up, shocking M and Tanner, who watch the explosion

Meanwhile, somewhere in the Scottish Highlands...

A lone figure stands on the edge of a cliff while on a horse, overlooking the vast, rugged landscape of the Scottish Highlands...

Y/N L/N takes a deep breath and looks over at the horizon

He had found peace in the Highlands, having a quiet life, away from the shootings, shadows and orders

Also, he was sporting a brand new look: Longer hair and a beard

But why was he there in the first place?

Well, some time before his "death", Y/N managed to get a hold of his only blood family member remaining through MI6 files

He discovered an old family house in the Scottish Highlands which his grandfather, Duncan, lived in

Y/N already planned on meeting him, but since the circumstances after his supposed death made things more easier, he decided to meet with him and explain the whole situation

Duncan: Y/N, son...it's getting dark. We should head back

A couple of minutes later, they get in the big house, owned by Duncan

There, Y/N sees an old picture of his grandfather with his grandmother

Y/N: Is this...grandma?

Duncan: That's her. Your grandmother, Anne. She was a wonderful woman. This house holds many memories.

Y/N couldn't help but feel a mixture of emotions as he looked at the old photograph. It was a glimpse into a past he had never known, a family history that had been obscured by the complexities of life.

Y/N: I never thought I'd get the chance to know more about my family.

Duncan: Life has a way of surprising us. I never thought I'd see the day my grandson would stand in this house. Your parents...left this world way too soon. Then, the next thing I know is that you disappeared...along with your sister. I never saw you again.

Y/N's eyes widen. He never knew anything about a sister

Y/N: I'm sorry. Sister? I have a sister?

Duncan sighed, a mixture of sadness and regret in his eyes.

Duncan: Yes, a sister. Your parents adopted her before they had you. They named her Victoria. She was just a wee lass when they took her in. But after they...after they were gone, she vanished too.

Y/N felt a rush of emotions: confusion, surprise, and a deep longing to know more about this sister he had never known.

Y/N: Victoria... Where is she now?

Duncan shook his head.

Duncan: I wish I knew, son. She disappeared not long after you did.

Y/N looks at more pictures of his family in the house

He finds a picture of his father and his mother

Duncan: Ah, this...New Year's Eve 1994. That's when they met. Your father fell for your mother badly. He wouldn't stop talking about her.

Y/N traced the edges of the photograph, a bittersweet smile playing on his lips.

Y/N: I wish I could've known them better.

Duncan: Life takes unexpected turns, lad. They'd be proud of the man you've become, though.

Y/N then looks at the living room TV, getting shocked with what he sees

Y/N: What the fuck?

On the TV screen, the breaking news had captured Y/N's attention. The MI6 headquarters in London was engulfed in flames after a devastating explosion

Y/N: Turn that up, gramps.

Wolf Blitzer: Authorities are on the scene. It appears that the MI6 building was a victim of an explosion, caused by a gas leak. Casualties are expected to be significant. Investigators hunt for leads in what now appears to be a major terrorist attack in the heart of London. No-one has claimed responsibility, but sources call it a possible "cyber-terrorist assault" on the British Secret Service

Duncan: Is that your old workplace?

Y/N: It is. Shit...I gotta go.

Y/N rushes to the door, ready to get back to his car and return to England, but Duncan stops him and hands Y/N the pictures of his grandmother and parents...and Victoria

Duncan: Find her...please.

Y/N: I will, grandpa...I will.

A day later...

London, England

M was returning to his home after a busy day attending the funeral of the victims of the MI6 explosion

He was angry, determined to find whoever did this

His staff car pulls up and he gets out of it before entering his house

M gets in, exhausted from the funerals

He tosses off his coat and goes into his darkened sitting room to get himself a drink

M then stops, sensing something wrong...

It's Y/N, back from the dead and standing on the other side of the dark room

Y/N: White Knight reporting for duty.

M: Where the hell have you been?

Y/N: Enjoying death.
