Prologue: "Reunion"

Luke Lessello awoke with a start at the sound of camp alarm. He pulled himself out of bed in time to hear his counselor make an announcement to the whole cabin.

"Good morning, campers!" he shouted. "As always, breakfast is available in the mess hall. We'll be competing in activities against the Tiger cabin today."

Luke got dressed and headed out to the mess hall, ordering his usual meal of cereal with cookies and cream yogurt, when he noticed a strangely familiar face among the sea of campers.

That's weird. Wasn't he in Wales?

He decided to go up and talk to him once he got his breakfast. He was sitting a bit farther away from the line than he expected, and he pulled up an unfamiliar hoodie, but once he got to him, the resemblance was crystal clear.

"Well, well, well," he greeted his childhood friend, Noah Williams. "The guy comes home and I have to see him at camp. Of all the places in the world."

Noah, confused, turned around and stared at his old friend in shock. "Luke Lessello? Is that you?" When his friend nodded, he added, "Wow! You look so...grown-up!"

Luke chuckled. "Well, I did age two years. May I sit?"

"Of course!" Noah moved back to give Luke more room, and he sat and ate breakfast while the two of them caught up. Noah told Luke about coming back to Philadelphia when his dad got his old job back. Luke told Noah about breaking up their old band after a falling out with Ash Musil and Eddie Bogomolov, the other two former members that Noah and Luke used to be thick as thieves with.

"Have you not talked to them?" Noah asked.

Luke shook his head. "Not since. It was only a month after I got my first phone. Besides, they wouldn't wanna talk to me anyway."

Later, because it turned out that Noah was in the Tiger cabin and Luke was in the Lynx cabin, they spent the whole day doing the camp activities together. The Tigers destroyed them at laser tag, the scavenger hunt, and (though Noah carried them) the rap battle. But Luke didn't mind, because he had such a fun time and it was amazing to see his old best friend again. (Besides, he carried the Lynxes in karaoke, and they also beat them at the dance off and the obstacle course.)

After all that, Luke and Noah decided to hang out in Luke's cabin room before they had to split off for the night. After talking a bit and playing a round of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Noah took notice of Luke's old songbook.

"Oh, yeah, I just keep it around for the memories and because I still like the songs. You can go through it if you want."

Noah did just that. A lot of the songs they used to do were covers of ones they all liked, but oftentimes they wrote their own. Noah couldn't help but smile at all the songs, from the nice and sweet ones to the kinds of silly ones people always expected young children to come up with. One in particular caught his eye: one with the title, "Break the Code." He read the song to himself before asking his friend, "Did you write this one all by yourself? It's so...powerful!"

Luke leaned over to see which one he was talking about. "Oh, that one. It's...it's about Gongo."

Noah reread the song to himself with this new information. "Wow. They must've really hurt you."

"Yeah," Luke sighed. "It was really tough. But I got to the other side. It really helped to write that song."

"Have you recorded it?" Noah asked.

"No, I was too nervous. Besides, I gave the YouTube channel to them in an angry huff, and because I didn't want anything to do with it anymore."

"Then you should start a new one!" Noah suggested. "Hear me out. If you want to keep singing your songs, this is the best and most secure way to do so. Plus, it can help you take some mental revenge against Ash and Eddie."

Luke considered this idea. "I'd feel more comfortable if we did it together," he finally said.

Noah was surprised to hear this. "Really? I mean, it'd be fun for me, definitely. I'll do it."

Luke nodded and smiled. "Thanks. I'd just...rather not sing this song alone. You can borrow the songbook, just so you can learn the song. Tomorrow, in between camp stuff, we can meet up again and practice and create instrumentals on the Internet or something."

"Alright." Noah gave him a thumbs up and started out of the room with the songbook. "Night, Luke!"

"Night, Noah!" When his friend headed out, Luke turned off the lights and headed to sleep.
