Chapter VII: "Aurora"
The next Monday, in the locker room before practice, a fem in a purple hijab caught up to Anita as she was changing into her uniform. She turned and smiled, immediately recognizing her as shooting guard Aurora Saqqaf.
"Ahlan!" she greeted her. "Coach Anderson's making a team group chat, and wants me to get everyone's numbers! So, if you could..."
"Of course!" Anita cut her off, excited, before quickly composing herself. "I mean, yeah, I'll write my number in."
Aurora then passed her a clipboard and pen, where she wrote her name and number on the sheet.
Later on, the whole team met up on the court, along with Coach Anderson, to warm-up, before the coach called Hannah Pretorius and Sean Caito - the point guards - up to join her.
"Today, we're going to go over team-building and communication. The starters of each position will run offense, and the subs will run defense. Each point guard will start a play, and it'll be up to the other members of the team to figure out what play they're running!"
Thus, Anita moved towards Sean's side, while watching Aurora move towards Hannah's.
"You good?" Sean asked, seemingly noticing where their small forward's eyes were locked.
"Hmm? Oh, yeah, let's do this!" Anita replied, breaking herself out of her trance.
That was not the last time she would catch herself eyeing the starting shooting guard throughout the practice. Not on purpose. Her eyes just naturally went to her. She was so talented, and looked so graceful in the court...
The only thing that worried her about it was that the potential for her game to be off, but even then, she didn't think it was too bad. At the end, Sean even high-fived her and complimented her for her "fire on the court."
Back in the locker room, Anita went up to Aurora to compliment her on her game. She smiled and thanked her before heading on her way. As she did so, Anita could feel her heart beating out of her chest, in the best way possible.

"Check it out!" Blaine showed his friends his phone at homeroom. "45 views and still going up, fast! And the comments are fairly positive! Vlogging was a great idea, Rose!"
"Yeah, this is awesome!" Rose replied, beaming. "We've already gotten people interested in the band, and we haven't even released a single as a six-piece yet!"
Trinity clapped her hands in excitement. "Ooh, although, I did finish recording my drum part!"
"Luke knows. He called me last night on Discord to make sure I could hear myself on the finished mix," Blaine explained. "He's aiming for a Saturday or Sunday release, depending on what you all think."
"Well, I might just say which day works in the Discord later," Anita announced. "If things go well this week, I might have a date on one of those days!"
"A date?!" Trinity perked up.
"With who?" Rose asked.
"The starting shooting guard on the team," Anita explained. "I'm gonna try to get her alone next practice day and ask her out. It's gonna be great!"
"Aww, I wish I had your courage!" Trinity admitted. "There's a boy in my coding club I've had my eye on."
"Epic! Maybe we can double date!" Anita exclaimed.
"That would be great, except that every conversation we initiate ends in me either losing my speaking ability entirely or becoming an awkward motor-mouth," Trinity replied.
"Maybe I can help you with that," Rose offered. "Before swim practice."
But before she could explain any further, the bell rang, and it was time for first period. Trinity just figured she would find out her friend's plan that afternoon.
