CODE 57 Fire

Ben had almost reached the Earth's atmosphere and increased the speed of his spaceship. It was going down smoothly when suddenly an aeroplane got in the way. He crashed into it perpendicularly and they both began falling down. The aeroplane and the spaceship caught fire and went down. The aeroplane landed inside the forest on an island whereas the spaceship landed inside the ocean. Ben swam towards the shore and pressed his feet on the beach, into the sand.

He felt the roughness and warmth on his feet. He leaned down and crushed the grains of sand between his fingers. The sand was sparkling under the sun. He looked up at the sky. It was blue and beautiful. And they had a sun! He looked at his human feet and slowly walked barefoot on the sand, leaving footprints on the sand.

He had no clothes on his body because he couldn't get the fibre humans used for making clothes. His body was that of a human seven-year-old. When he looked at the woods, his pupil constricted and he could see far beyond the trees, at the crashed aeroplane, dead bodies lying all over the grass, and a woman shouting for help under a huge piece of the aeroplane wing. He ran towards her, crossing the woods and reached her.

He reached her and picked up the piece of fibreglass wing. His blue eyes narrowed as he looked at her. She was the first human he saw. She had that beige human skin, but no hair on her body? He was confused and why was her stomach was so big?

She stretched her arms towards him, "Please, save my baby," She said in English. He knew English and was waiting to speak it with someone. Finally, it was time, "Where is your baby?"
"Inside me,"
He was no doctor, he was into Physics, not Biology. He looked at her. She seemed fine, just her leg was bleeding as it had been crushed under the rummage.

"I'm sorry, I can't help you—"
"Please! Just as another human, please save my kid," She grabbed his arm. He looked at her stomach and saw through the flesh. He took a piece of metal lying on the ground and slit open her stomach. He tore the flesh apart and she shouted in pain. He pulled the baby out from all the blood.

It was just a six months old baby.
"Your baby is here," She pressed her hands on the dead infants face, "He looks just like Kyle," She cried, "I couldn't save my family,"

"Why are you crying?" Ben asked.
She smiled, "Please promise me you'll save him. Take him to the mainland...to his father. He is everything we have," She closed her eyes gently and her facial muscles relaxed.
Ben looked at the baby, "Well, I guess he is everything I have now too,"

He left her just the way she was and walked towards the beach. The baby was most probably dead too. He washed it in the saltwater. As his hands touched the baby's skin, it breathed underwater. A few moments after he was out of the water, he began crying.

Ben looked into the eyes of the baby which were sky blue and reflected back his face, "A miniature human,"
He kept the baby on the sand and left him on the shore. He went back to the plane and grabbed some clothes from the dead body. He pulled up some pants and a T-Shirt.

He looked at the dead mother. She had a diamond ring on her hand which was shining under the sun. He slowly pulled out the ring but suddenly felt a sharp object on his neck. He turned back and saw a naked man, his body covered with a black substance and white tattoos on his face resembling a zebra. His lips were red and he had a necklace made of bones hanging around his neck. He held a spear made of wood and stones with him.

Ben slowly got up and saw a few other men behind him. They all stared at him and he stared back at them. They pressed the spear on his neck and signalled him to walk. He quietly walked with them, while others picked up the dead bodies. There were a lot of them but what were they thinking of doing with the dead bodies?

He reached an area surrounded by caves. There was a huge fireplace in the middle where they had huge earthen pots and just beside it stood a naked woman, with a huge knife in her hand. He stood quietly and observed. Everyone had rubbed their bodies with charcoal and none of them was wearing any clothes but the people on the plane were all well dressed. So, what was he supposed to do? Wear clothes or not?

He looked at the woman chopping the dead bodies with her knife and another woman throwing those pieces into a pot. Some women sat around the pot and threw in some water inside the pot with some chopped vegetables. Then, they kept the pot on the fire. He was confused. He had eaten flesh before too, but he had never eaten the flesh of his own kind. Why were humans eating other humans? What was going on?

Suddenly, they grabbed his hair and dipped his head into a pot filled with water. They laughed as they waited for him to drown, but he just stared at the walls of the earthen pot. Why was he not struggling? Was he already dead? They pulled his head up after five minutes. He stared at them. They were all surprised. They pushed him down again and pulled him up after ten minutes. He was still breathing.

They all grew frustrated and threw him in the fire to burn him alive. As soon as he walked into the fire, his eyes glowed. A strong wind began flowing and wiped away the fire. They all moved away from him.

"Why is he not dying?!"
"He must be him! The god of the ocean!"
They shouted in their language. All of them bowed before him, acknowledging him with their tribal deity, Iut. He didn't know what was happening so he just decided to follow along and not show any form of resistance.

Then, suddenly he remembered the baby he had left on the shore. He ran as fast as he could and looked at the shore. There was no one there anymore. He jumped into the water and searched through the water. He finally found the baby floating between two rocks. Most probably he was carried by the waves during a tide. He picked it up, it was breathing underwater. But humans shouldn't have been able to breathe underwater.

Ben looked at his hands.
His sweat was carrying his infection, which made humans just like him. His eyes widened. This was so...interesting.

He picked the baby in his arms and turned back, finding the entire tribal village bowing before him. Maybe he had found a home on Earth?

He introduced himself as "Evelyn" since his real name was difficult for them to pronounce. He thought someone might come to look for the plane, but no one ever came.

Ten years passed peacefully. He taught the tribal people to eat fish and fruits instead of each other. He taught them about medicine and everything he knew, they all could breathe underwater. The baby grew up into a gorgeous brunette chap with dark golden freckles on his cheeks. But something weird was happening, people who always stayed around him had stopped growing.

Ben was worshipped by the tribals. He named the baby Innuit, he was naughty and always up to some mischief.

"Inniut! The lord is calling you!" A brown girl with hazel eyes ran towards him. He stood on the branch of a tree above a waterfall with a few other kids.
"Innuit!"
"Go away, Si, I'm trying to have some fun here!" He shouted and jumped down into the water. She crossed her arms, "One day, you'll crack your head open!"

He swam inside the water and then popped up at the surface. His big sky blue eyes looked up at her and a wide smile covered his face, "Keep dreamin'~ Off I go!" He swam down to the village and jumped out of the water. He had white whiskers drawn on his cheeks and hair reaching till his back. He ran towards the village with his friends. He toppled the earthen pots which the women were carrying on their heads.

"Ugh! Innuit!"
He winked and ran away.
"Innuit! The lord is calling you!" A few men shouted at him but he ran away. He made a ditch in the middle of the road and covered it with grass. A fat man fell into it while going for a hunt. He laughed and ran away.

He even sold grass at the price of weed to some drug addicts.
"They'll be snorting Earth today," He laughed with his friends.

He sat on the mango trees and savoured their taste until it was dark. He walked up to a huge rock on the hill outside the village, Ben sat on the rock. Even after ten years, he looked the same seven-year-old kid. He still had short hair and blue eyes looking at the sky.
"Evelyn," Innuit said and Ben turned towards him, "Erm, you called?"
"Oh Innuit, have a drink, come,"
Innuit sat beside him and drank some Balché.
(Balché is a drink made from the bark of soaked in honey and water and fermented)

He took a few sips and looked at the stars in the sky.
"You know, Innuit, when water becomes stagnant, it turns stale. Only flowing water can remain pure and possess life. And so, I have to go,"
"Go where?"
"Somewhere far away. I can't stop at one place, I need to keep moving because there is just so much to learn. I've learnt of my people, now I wanna go out and explore,"

"But then, who'll guide the tribe?" Innuit asked. Evelyn smiled and looked at the small, tribal town, "This town is so beautiful," He turned back and looked at him,
"Do you want to burn it?"
