personality~
He's a fun boy-next-door who will talk to anyone. He's honestly pretty self-conscious at times and can retreat into his own mind, but most of the time he's just charismatic and outgoing and he loves to see the people he cares about be happy. Honestly, Novak is kind of a flirt, but it's just in his friendly sweet nature. He really is good with words and is very go with the flow. He often can be swept up in peer pressure, but when it comes to important things he will definitely still stand his ground.
Novak is the type of guy who doesn't fall very fast and values his human connections because it's very rare that he connects with someone's soul. And he is the type of person who needs to bond with someone's soul and heart to truly, fully love them. He can be like a big brother to people and he is someone that a lot come to for advice and to lean on because he will give them the affection they need, even if it's just a hug. And the boy gives great hugs.
"Can't explain, don't keep me waiting all night"
backstory~
When Novak was young he lived in a happy home with his mom, dad, and two little brothers. They had it all together, as their mom was a teacher, dad was a Senator and they had a picture perfect family. Just as few did, his dad was actually a good man and successful politician. Everyone knew Louis Wilhelm, and everyone in his school knew him. He loved his family and his family loved him, and as the oldest kid, he had a lot of pressure on him, even as a 12-year-old little boy.
During the hot summer between his seventh and eighth grade year, he and his family took a trip to Northern California. Congress was in recess and while he felt that he rarely saw his dad during the year, he lived for the times when their whole family was together and they got to enjoy each other's company.
It was on that trip that his family perched in a cabin away from technology for their five-day trip. They wanted to be away from the confines of everyday life. In leaving their technology behind, they were out of luck to hear the warnings of a wildfire blowing their way. They went to bed that night and awoke in coughs as the embers sizzled nearer and nearer. They couldn't leave the cabin, as they were trapped and slowly the fire closed in.
Novak watched his parents burn to death, his mom coughing up blood from the smoke piercing her lungs, his dad's skin melting from the intense heat. He would never be able to forget the smell of burning flesh as he looked down at his arms doing the same thing. He laid on the ground like he was told, in an effort to keep the smoke away. His brothers were ten and eight, they withered away next to him. Coughing until they simply ceased to exist.
Novak simply cried and tried to crawl out of the building. When firefighters reached the scene, pushing the wildfire back in an attempt to contain the flares, they found Novak passed out in a pile of ashes, his lightly tanned face covered in soot and his arms and back covered in burns. His shirt was tattered as he drifted in and out of consciousness, asking about his parents.
The building that Novak crawled out of possessed the bodies of his four closest family members. They all died in the wildfire, and he was inches from it.
Immediately after, he moved in with his dad's brother and his wife as well as his cousin Lilia who was a year older than him. They took him in like their own child and he tried to rebuild a normal life for himself. The nightmares came and he went through counseling, as he still is. He feels like he's still struggling with it but he's tried to numb the pain a lot by simply ignoring it.
But no matter what, he's been squeamish around bonfires, fireplaces and even matches ever since then. It just terrifies him to think about it, especially as he's still in public eye over what happened to his dad as they all feel bad for the son of the Senator who had to watch his father die.
