|Chapter 18| Being grateful.

Wa...u...

Wak....p....

Wake....up....

Wake up..

"Wake up!"

"WAKE UP!!!"

"Wha...?" I mumbled as I opened my eyes. Everything was blurry, and hurting.

"Grillby! You're awake!..." I heard a concerned voice cry from the side of me.

"Y/N?..." I questioned with little strength, and her voice hitched.

"Grillby! You're alive!" I felt hugged by a person, and I felt even more in pain.

"Oww...." I hoarsely spoke.

"Oh sorry sorry! I was just so glad you're alive..." I heard her whisper. "Alphys, Do you mind if you release him?"

"Y-Yes actually. He just woke up, and I-I don't think h-he can walk yet." I heard Alphys's stuttering refusal.

"Oh... I understand. Do you mind if I, stay here?" From the silence, I could tell that Alphys nodded. She waddled away from listening to her steps. I closed my eyes since they were ineffective without my glasses.

"Grillb-"

"How long was I out?" I interrupted.

"Oh, for, about a couple of hours. Give or take." She spoke cooly, and I could only sigh.

"What happened?" I asked, opening my eyes to see a blurry figure of Y/N with a short-sleeved shirt on.

"Well, I went to go to Grillby's early, and when I got there, I saw the place on fire." She spoke.

"Oh, that's my fault. Sans was teasing me." I explained.

"About what?" She asked.

"Nothing you need to know about." I breathed. "Continue."

"I then saw you, leap out of the building, and then it collapsed from the flames. All of Snowdin went around the bar to see what happened, long after I first found you on the ground, and when I saw you not responding, face-first in the snow, I immediately grabbed you and called for someone to help me carry you to the doctor, Alphys." She pushed back a piece of hair in her face. "The guy who helped me was a bear monster, and he seemed to like politics, since we talked a bit when we were waiting for us to be allowed to go into your room." She smiled. "I thanked him, and then he left, since he wasn't close friends with you, but he could tell that I was. I let him, and soon after, I was allowed in. Alphys told me what you had, and to be honest, no one has really had it before."

"What was my condition?" I meekly whispered.

"You have a, cold stroke. For nearly everyone else, it would be a heat stroke, where you get overheated, and would probably faint, because of either not drinking enough water or being quickly changed to an entirely different temperature. Like your case." I felt her rest her hand onto my arm. I tensed, afraid that she may burn herself. "You won't burn me. I would take my hand away when it gets too hot."

"But your hands!" I worried.

"So what about my hands? I know they have burns on them, but that's not stopping me, now is it?" She excused.

"There's the Y/N I know and lo..." I trailed off.

"Pardon?" She cocked her head to the side.

"N-Nothing." I lightly shook my head.

"Alright. Just know you can tell me anything." She tried to comfort me.

"Right... right." I looked away. "Hey, could you give me my glasses?"

"Oh... About that..." She took her hand away. "I think they got crushed or lost."

"Great..." I rolled my eyes.

"I could ask Alphys to make some for you." She suggested.

"No no. Don't bother her. She's already done enough for me." I dissuaded.

"If you want me I could be guiding you to the glasses store or to let me go on an errand..." She gestured. I closed my eyes and shifted my head away.

"That's useless." I unintentionally disheartened.

"Oh... Well I don't think it's useless. You're worth seeing." She went against me and encouraged me.

"Thanks..." I blinked at her, and closed my eyes.

"I don't think you should sleep right after you just woke up from fainting." She had a point there. "You remind me of Sans."

"Of course. He's so lazy." I commented.

"Yeah. OH! While you were out, Sans told me something." I frowned. More than likely, it was going to be something bad.

"What is it?" My curiosity was evident.

"There's a fallen human. Her name is..." She trailed off.

"..." I was silent as she tried to think.

"I think it was Frisk." She finally spoke, after what felt like an hour.

"Frisk..." I spoke. "How.... How did she react to everything?"

"She was really confused and surprised. Guess she didn't hear about the tale of the monsters." She giggled, which made me smile at her laugh. "I would say she's a teenager. Maybe in her high school years."

"High school?" I questioned.

"Yeah, like Fuku's age!" She exclaimed. "But as short as Sans."

"Hmm..." I sounded. "Didn't think someone would be as short as Sans." I joked.

Y/N giggled again. "Yeah. Who would have thought?"

"No one!" I replied, with amusement in my soul.

Y/N laughed, which then caused me to laugh, for the first time in what felt like years. The joyous feeling was rejuvenating, and made me feel so much better.

"Wow Grillby! You sound very hearty." Y/N commented after we stopped laughing.

"Hmm. Thanks. It felt like I haven't laughed like that in years." I smiled, wide, actually, wider than I have in a while. Y/N has brought me so much...light, into my life, that I can't imagine that I would like life without her. It's interesting to see life go forward again, without everything being slightly off... or repeating.

I sighed, at what my life has come to. Why I am seeing everything on the positive side, puzzles me, but that's aside from the matter. My cold stroke even makes me happy that I am doing something different, besides being cooped up in that pub of ours.

Stars, I am saying 'ours' instead of mine!

You know what? I don't really care.

Y/N is practically running the business along beside me. Maybe I could rename the building, from instead just 'Grillby's,' to something else...

"U-Uhm... Y/N, I-I fixed Grillby's glasses." I heard Alphys stutter in front of me.

"Thank you Alphys." She spoke to her. She got up and grabbed the glasses from her. She handed them to me, and muttered a 'thanks.'

I put them on, and everything cleared up.

I could clearly see Y/N smiling at me, sitting on a chair beside my hospital bed. She grabbed my left hand, and and smiled wide at me. I smiled back, and thought back to what I was thinking of earlier.

Oh right! Thinking about the bar and also being grateful!

Being grateful...
