|Chapter 14| A painful dream.

Grillby's POV:

When I was off in dreamland, I found myself seeing the events of the fox monster and Y/N. Only, Y/N couldn't get out of the fox's grip. When he reached for her the second time, I think every monster knew it wasn't a 'second kiss.' Truth be told, he was going to bite her. When a monster with animal traits, finds someone they like, more than likely, they would bite them to mark them as their own, and not anybody else's.

I was sort of glad she didn't know, for that saves me a lot of questions, but then again, she could come to the conclusion that it was not another kiss that the fox was trying to do. Maybe she would confront me about the situation. But, I'm not sure if I have the guts to tell her what really happened. It's like telling a child where babies come from, and it makes you and the child very uncomfortable.

When I look back to my dream, I see the fox monster taking her away. Y/N gasps at the teeth mark in her dominant hand's shoulder, and this gives the fox monster time to kidnap her. All I could do was watch. I couldn't move. I couldn't speak. I could only see everybody's eyes on the two, then to me.

They then bombarded me with questions, like they did with Y/N. It all sounded muddled, and eventually I felt my body starting to extinguish.

Somebody poured water over me.

I opened my mouth to let out all the pain I had into a sound, but no sound came out. I found myself running towards the front door, and running for the fox monster who was taking my friend.

The snow and wind stung, but I kept going and pushing through.

I kept on feeling and seeing my body disappear, but I kept going on.

I found the fox monster kissing with Y/N, as a retort to my death. That was the last thing I saw in my dream.

Then everything went dim.

Y/N's POV:

When I was peacefully resting, I was awoken by the sound of screaming. The scream didn't sound like a teen's, or mine, so I easily concluded that it was Grillby's.

Yet, I questioned why.

I got out of the couch, tossing the  blankets haphazardly onto the couch and floor, and I slid over towards Grillby's bedroom door.

I was hesitant to go in at first, but I made up my mind, and I turned the doorknob and pushed the door open.

There, I saw Grillby illuminating the room, as though there was truly a fire inside. The difference from this to any other time, is that the other's were controlled. This one, I could feel the radiating heat from the doorway.

I shuffled over towards his bedside, and I tried shaking him to come to his consciousness, but I felt my hands getting burned, so I repulsed, taking my hands away the quickest I have ever done before.

I was left with a strange predicament, that could only be solved by either waking them up, or patiently waiting for them to wake up.

I chose the first one, for that could stop his screaming and mumbling before it naturally came. So I tried shaking him again, but that only made my hands burned again, causing tears to squeeze out of my eyes and onto his body. That seemed to make it worse. I then rushed to get his gloves that were still at the sink, and I put them on as I was running back into his bedroom. I then shook him with the gloves on, but that didn't seem to work, just like before. I could only sit there, and watch him in this trapped mentality.

He seemed to be in pain in his dream; he was squinting his eyes, and I watched him twitch his arm and legs, so I assumed he could be running in his dream. Then afterwards, he suddenly opened his fiery eyes wide and shouted a:

"NO!"

This made me curious to what his nightmare was about.

"Grillby! Grillby! Are you alright?!" I questioned him with concern glazed over my words.

"*sigh* Are you alright?" He questioned back to me. This made me conclude that I was playing a role in his vivid dream.

"Yes. Now, ladies first." I smiled playfully at him to lighten the mood, but it didn't work as prominent as I had hoped.

"..." Grillby looked away, towards a wall, as though contemplating whether or not to tell me his well being, which I could only wonder why he wouldn't. "I, had a nightmare."

"Psh." I rolled my eyes. "That's obvious. Now what's the truth?"

"Well..." He shifted so he was sitting up. "I was dreaming about what happened last night."

I leaned in to gesture I wanted to hear more. Grillby noticed, and before he told more of his dream, he asked for his glasses on his end table. Of course, I handed him that, and when he put them on, he nodded in approval for his fixed vision.

"So I was reliving the event that happened last night..." He then rubbed the back of his neck, thinking again about how much he should tell me. "And you know how the fox monster tried to... kiss, you, a second time?" He looked over to me with red flames. The equivalent to blushing for a flame elemental. I wondered what could be so embarrassing to Grillby for him to explain a situation that others witnessed.

"Yeah." I finally answered.

"Well, in reality..." He trailed off, and looked to the wall again. I saw his flames curling in embarrassment and uneasiness. "He was going to mark you."

"What?!" I exclaimed in confusion. "He, was going to mark me, as in, like animals do to their ma-"

"YES YES!" He covered up the last word with his own, as though it were his baby pictures. "That's exactly what the was trying to do, but in my dream he did!"

"Okay." I meekly spoke in comparison to his assertive-like tone.

"Sorry, it's just... It's really embarrassing to talk about situations like these..." He looked away again.

"So I've noticed." I sat down on the bedside near his covered feet. "Continue with your dream."

"Oh... So... as I said, he, did, it, in my dream, to you, and then he ran off with you, but with me doing nothing. The customers slandered me, and sounded all muffled due to the amount of voices were all going on, and then I felt water on me, and it felt like it was real." I widened my eyes in realization that I had influenced his dream.

"Sorry that was me, I tried shaking you awake with my bare hands-"

"YOUR BARE HANDS?!" He exclaimed.

"Yes, but that's aside from the matter-" Grillby took my gloves off and looked at my hands. He turned them over and looked at my reddish, blistered, and peeling skin. He sighed in guilt. He gently caressed my burned skin on my hands, and I cringed at the stinging.

"Second degree burn." He sounded. I looked at my hands as well, and noticed that it looked worse than before. A way to describe it, is that my skin looked sort of like a bubble. I know that's not a good thing, and Grillby looked extremely guilty for my burns.

"Grillby..." I tired to comfort him, but it didn't seem affective.

Grillby was silent, still holding my burned hands. Eventually, he breathed in, and spoke. Except it wasn't a self guilt trip as I thought it was. He was continuing explaining his story.

"I then found myself running out the door. It was rather stupid, since it was heavily snowing again, but I still persevered. I kept on running, chasing you, and trying to get you away from that fox monster." He hung his head. "I collapsed from the cold, and the last thing I saw, was the fox monster... kissing you.

"..." I was silent to the rest of his dream. He left go of my hands, but gently, so that they slowly went to my lap and near my sides. He made the room dim with his flames. I looked to him, to see him looking down still, looking as guilty as ever, and looking as though he just broke a vase and didn't know what to tell his parents.

I watched him, keeping my eyes on his face. Then, I got up from the bed.

This made Grillby look up, expecting me to leave,

but I made my way around, and instead of going towards the door,

I made my way towards the other side of the bed,

and I sat there with Grillby looking upon me,

shocked.
