Part 31: Something New; Robby Keene

Dedicated to @AbbyWatson4, @Robby2Keene, @NewYorkDoll, and @LOVESTODOODLE for their awesome support!

"I can't believe that actually happened. My dad and I spent an entire day together without either me ripping his head off or him talking about Miguel," thought Robby as he laid his head back against the side of the apartment's worn couch, his arm tucked behind his head.

He stared up at the unusually stained ceiling, smiling as he thought of the day he'd spent with Johnny.

Most kids would take a day as simple as eating a nice breakfast and taking a small trip with their father as an inconvenience at best. But for Robby, it felt more like a far off dream his heart had been craving for years. Something that could be glimpsed in the brightest of times, yet always remained out of his longing reach.

Is this what it feels like to love someone?

His gaze turned to the karate gi that lay across the back of a wooden dining chair. It wasn't just any old gi, it was his father's original one (the smell most certainly confirmed that too). He felt a sudden rush of combined hatred and guilt as he remembered seeing Johnny give Miguel his first training gi. That had been the moment that solidified his determination to learn karate from Daniel years prior.

Sensei Kreese did always say that pain is our strongest point of motivation.

But that was all in the past. Robby knew his father loved him now, regardless of his feelings towards Miguel.

His thoughts were soon interrupted by a sudden knocking at Johnny's apartment door. Robby stood up from the couch cautiously, pushing his ruffled hair out of his face.

Maybe Carmen's coming over to drop off some more food for my dad? He really does eat a lot.

Despite it making no logical sense why it should happen, a part of Robby still was hoping that Kenny was there.

The second he'd pulled open the wooden door, his muscles tensed up.

"Hello, Mr. Keene. I think it's time we finally talked about our current circumstances," stated Terry Silver, sternly.

His weathered hands were folded behind his back delicately, each finger in perfect alignment with the opposite hand's knuckle. His wavy gray hair was tied in a high ponytail that hung behind his head in such an angle that it resembled a slithering snake. His black collared dress shirt covered up all the secrets Robby knew were hidden deep inside the empty cavern known as his heart.

"Of course, Sensei Silver. I just wasn't expecting to see you here," responded Robby, stepping to the side so that Terry could enter the apartment.

"Well, I haven't seen you at the dojo for several weeks and I was getting concerned. Plus, I figured it'd be more comfortable if we had this discussion somewhere you feel more, at home," explained Terry as he entered the grimy apartment.

His mere presence sent a chill down Robby's spine that seemed to cascade within his whole body, sending icy waves of fear rushing through his veins. There was nowhere to run from his Sensei now. No one left to save him.

"I'm just going to have to get out of this one on my own, like I always had to," thought Robby, uneasily.

"Come and sit, my boy," urged Terry, patting the couch cushion next to his.

Robby nodded thankfully before taking a seat, his anxiety slowly growing as he got further and further away from escape.

"So, how's your old man been treating you?" inquired Terry, crossing his legs, comfortably.

Does he bust into everyone's houses or am I just the lucky one?

"Good, I guess. Mostly just really complicated," answered Robby, vaguely.

He didn't know yet what Terry was getting at but, he wasn't going to let him hurt Johnny again.

"Ah, yes. I completely understand how complicated family relationships can be," said Terry, thoughtfully.

"I highly doubt that's what you came here to talk to me about, no offense, Sensei," pushed Robby, attempting to simultaneously mask both the fear and anger that were boiling over inside him as they spoke.

I just have to get through this one conversation...

Terry sighed as he unfolded his lanky legs from one another. His dress shoes made a distinctive clink against the poorly carpeted ground as he shifted positions.

"You are right indeed, Mr. Keene," smiled Terry, warmly back at his student.

Robby remained quiet, hoping the silence would do him more favors than his own words were currently accomplishing.

"If we're being honest, I wanted to ask that you attend a party with your fellow Cobras tonight," admitted Terry, honestly.

Why would he need me to attend a party with him?

"I don't understand, Sensei," questioned Robby, his face contorting in confusion.

"I know it sounds strange, especially considering how much I know of your distaste for these types of events, but I don't think you'll wanna miss this one," Terry continued, eagerly.

Robby's heart started to beat quickly as he heard those last few words leave Terry's poison laced lips.

He has to be planning something against my dad and Mr. LaRusso. It's the only thing he's so enthusiastic about.

But there was one more question that lingered in Robby's brain.

Does that mean that Kenny's going to be there with him?

Terry's next comment further confirmed Robby's current worries of his Sensei's intentions.

"And don't worry, Mr. Keene. All your friends are going to be there, including your girlfriend and little protege," stated Terry, knowingly.

Clearly, Robby was not hiding his emotions as well as he thought.

"So, what do you say?" asked Terry, staring directly into Robby's hazel green eyes.

He had to answer quickly for there had already been too long of a silence between his last response.

"I'll come, Sensei," replied Robby, nodding reassuringly.

"Great! I was hoping you'd say that!" beamed Terry, throwing a firm hand on Robby's left shoulder, proudly.

For a brief second (though it was still there), Robby thought he saw Terry's smile twist into an evil grin.

"You'll need to meet me at a ballroom on the northside of Beverly Hills in one hour," instructed Terry, grabbing his jacket from a hanging hook on the wall before opening the door.

"Okay, Sensei," acknowledged Robby, nodding respectively.

"Oh, and Mr. Keene, don't think I've forgotten your recent absences," stated Terry before quietly closing the door behind him.

Robby shifted uncomfortably in his seat, his heart still beating rapidly against his bruised chest.

I have to stop him from hurting anyone, especially my dad or Kenny.
