S2E4 the moment of truth
Sam was sitting on part of the deck, stretching as Robby punched and kicked the punching bag. "Maybe we should take a video of us sparring and post it on Instagram." Robby suggested. Sam turned towards him. "Everyone already saw us at Valley Fest. No one cares." She said very bluntly. "You know what the problem is? Miyagi-Do is all about the defense." Robby said, turning away from the bag and facing her. "Defense wins championships." Sam said with a shrug of her shoulders. "But people come for the offense. That's why Cobra Kai is so popular." He explained. "We need to show that we can fight too." Sam gave him a look. "And how are we supposed to do that? Go to the mall and pick a fight?" Her voice held sarcasm. "Record us defending ourselves?" He looked at her. "It's not the worst idea." He said, turning back towards the bag. "That's a terrible idea." She said with a scoff.
Kreese was walking in front of the students who firm6ed a square. "You got to understand that Mogadishu I'm the 90s was a hellhole." He said. "Warlords controlled swaths of the city. Me and my team were sent there to clean up." He was mainly talking to Eli and Aisha. Miguel was stretching. "How many warlords did you kill?" Eli asked, Kreese turned his eyes to him. "Do you keep track of every ant you stomp out?" He asked, making Eli gasp in amazement. "Woah.." Aisha said. Miguel rolled his eyes some. "Badass." Eli smirked some.
"We were outgunned. We were outmanned. I tell ya, Rwanda was no joke." Kreese told them. Miguel stood up from stretching, he was behind the man. "Don't you mean Somalia? Mogadishu is in Somalia. Rwanda is a whole different country." Kreese turned around to look at him. "Of course, Somalia." He said with a chuckle before turning back to Eli and Aisha. "I was in the sandbox so much, it all just kinda bleeds together, you know?"
"Alright listen up!" Johnny called as he walked out of the back room. "I see we got new recruits. Everyone fall in! In neat rows and lines." Johnny said. The students started moving to where they were supposed to be. "It's time to see what you're made of." He started walking through the rows. "Straighten up, ginger twins." He said lowly to two boys who instantly straightened their backs. Johnny walked up to the guy who worked at Home depot. "I'm sorry but parents can't stay for class. It's an insurance thing." Johnny told him. "I'm not a dad. I...I'm here to kick some ass, sir." He said glancing around the dojo. Johnny looked at him. "Don't I know you from somewhere?" He asked, eyes narrowing some. "Yeah I uh.,I sold you the mirror." He glanced back at a mirror. "We bonded over rock bands,." He trailed off near the end. "You're a little old. This is a class for teenagers." Johnny told him.
The man looked around him. "I can take em. I'm not afraid of kids, sir. And my mom, she doesn't charge me rent so I got cash to burn." He said, pulling some money out of his shirt pocket. He held it towards Johnny. Johnny took the money. "We'll consider this a trail run." He muttered as he walked towards the front. "I thought my last recruits were pathetic. But if you do what I tell you to do, you at least have a chance of becoming a fighter." Johnny's blue eyes scanned the crowd. "But that means you have to fight. So who has the balls to take on the champ?" He asked. Aisha glanced towards Miguel and Eli. "Uh." The man from Home depot started to raise his hand but was cut off. "I'll take him on." A female voice said. Turning to look back they saw a girl with longer hair that was brown at the roots and brown eyes. "You will huh?" Johnny looked at her. "I saw your little demo at the Valley Fest. You can put on a good show but can you actually fight?" She asked, glancing around. Johnny was walking forward, now standing in front of her. "That sounds like a challenge." He said. She looked slightly up at him. "I like a challenge." She said.
"Mr. Diaz show miss hotshot here what Cobra Kai's all about." Johnny said as he walked back up to the front. Miguel bowed to Johnny. Everyone started moving back, clearing off the mat. Miguel looked at her. "Look are you sure you wanna do.." He was asking when she kicked him in the stomach, making him stumble back but he didn't fall. "Okay." He said with a smile on his face. "Game on." The smile instantly faded away. The fight started her attacking and him blocking. "Close the gap." He told her, using his legs to sweep her. She hit the ground but flipped back up. "You're telegraphing. Don't let me see it coming." He told her. She tackled him to the ground. "Did you see that coming?" She questioned, standing up. Miguel put one leg behind hers and on leg at her stomach and quickly took her to the ground. "Maybe." He was a bit out of breath. He stood up and offered his hand to help her up. "My name's Miguel." She took his hand. "Tory." She flipped him over, using her shoulder. She held his one arm back and put her other hand on the side of his face, holding it to the ground. "With a Y."
Daniel, Sam and Robby where driving down the road in the yellow Ford Super De Luxe. The top down and wind blowing through their hair. Daniel was driving with Sam in the passenger's side, Robby was sitting in the back. "I still don't see how going to the beach is going to help us get students." Robby said over the wind and music, looking at Daniel. "It's not the kids in going after, it's the parents." He told them. Sam gave him a odd look. "So you are counting on kids listening to their parents?" She asked in amusement tone. "No I'm counting on parents to do whatever it takes to protect their kids. I've already tried everything else to promote Miyagi-Do. If this doesn'twork, nothing will." He chuckled.
They pulled up to the beach club. "See its always packed here on Saturdays." Daniel said. "Nice wheels, daddy-o. Think you can give me a ride sometime?" Amanda asked, she was waiting for them. "Sure thing, doll. We can drive right down to the passion pit." Daniel said, pulling her in for kiss.
Robby and Sam where following Daniel and Amanda up. Robby had a uneasy look on his face. "What's wrong?" Sam asked him. "Nothing, it's just I kinda used to work here." His eyes never once leaving the building. "Really? When?" Sam asked with a smile on her face. "I couple days last summer. It wasn't a good fit." He said simply, letting her walk a bit in front of him.
Eli was standing out side of the Cobra Kai dojo, face timing with Demetri. "You know what happens to snitches." Eli said in a low voice. "They get immunity." Demetri replied as Miguel walked out of the dojo. "Snitches get stitches." He responded. "I have stitches, I have several stitches." Demetri's voice sounded aggravated. "Don't do anything stupid, or you'll regret it." Eli said as he hung up. "What was that?" Miguel asked, arching a eyebrow. "That p***y Demetri couldn't handle training with Mr. Kreese. He's not Cobra Kai material." Eli said simply. Miguel stared after his friend as he walked away, shaking his head on disbelief.
Miguel turned around and walked back inside. He walked into the back room where Johnny had just finished painting 'Cobra Kai never dies' on the back wall. "Looks nice." Miguel said, catching his attention. "I even used a level this time." Johnny said, taking a sip of his beer before looking over at the boy. "What's up?" Miguel glanced around. "I'm a little worried about Mr. Kreese. My friend Demetri came in here and he roughed him up." He said with a concerned look on his face. "Demetri, yeah. He was the mouthy one right? Yeah he probably deserved it." Johnny said, Miguel turned his eyes to the ground. "Listen, I know you guys are old friends but some of his stories just don't add up."
"Look, Kreese and I go way back. He and I...it's complicated. He's got his problems but everyone deserves a second chance." Johnny told him, trying to stick up for a man who made it very difficult. "There's nothing to worry about, I'm on top of it okay?" Miguel looked at the man before nodding, "Okay. " He turned and walked out of the room.
Tory and Aisha were at the beach club. "Okay this is not the beach. Where's the homeless dudes on rollerblades and the guys shoving shitty hip-hop demos in you face?" Tory asked, making the other girl laugh. "No, don't worry. They'll come out after they pass out the hou d'oeuvres." Aisha smiled.
Robby and Sam where laying on the stomachs on two beach chairs, music playing front Sam's phone. Sam lifted her head and noticed Tory and Aisha on the balcony. Robby looked over at Sam. "What's going on?" He asked, he could see on her face something was wro g. "It's Aisha. We haven't spoken since everything that went down at Valley Fest." She said with a small sigh. "I'm think we should clean the air, but at the same time I'm still pissed at them for ruining our performance." Robby looked up at the balcony. "I say go talk to her." He told Sam. "Worse case, fight breaks out and we record." Sam smiled some at that, she started to stand up. "Who knows maybe I could come back with a new Miyagi-Do student." She said.
Aisha and Sam where at the buffet. Things were starting to become good again. Sam was looking over the balcony with a small, dreamy smile. Aisha followed her eyes to Robby, who was now laying on his back. "So it's just you and abs, all summer long training? God that must be hard." Aisha said with a small laugh. "Yeah. Okay." Sam laughed softly
Aisha and Sam were sitting together. "He actually moved into our house." Sam said, referring to Robby. Aisha looked at her shocked. "And your parents allowed that? " She couldn't believe it. "It's not like anythings going to happen, we're just friends." Sam smiled, a pink tint on her cheeks. "Uh-huh, well I'm still not going to tell Miguel. " Aisha frowned some. "Hey, look what I got." Tory said in a happy voice as she walked over. She pulled a bottle of vodka barely out of her purse to how it. Aisha looked at her. "How'd you get that?" Her eyes were a bit wide. "I swiped it from the bar." The blonde was smiling. Sam and Aisha shared a look. "Oh relax, all the adults are getting wasted, no one's going to notice if we're having a little fun."
"You should put that back, you could get into big trouble." Sam said, drawing Tory's attention. "And you are?" She asked with a hint of venom in her voice. "Oh Tory this is Sam. Sam, Tory." Aisha introduced. Tory gave a smile, the smile of the fact she knew things. "Oh. The Sam. Come on, one's going to miss one bottle of vodka." She said sassily. "I could swipe half the silverware here before anyone would notice." Sam looked up at the girl, Tory was a bit taller, "You shouldn't steal anything." Tory gave a quick little laugh. "What are you, a nun?" Sam's smile faltered and she glanced down. "Come on, are we going to drink or not?" Her brown eyes turned to Aisha. Aisha bit her lip, looking back at Tory. "Alright, one drink." Tory smiled as they started to walk away from Sam. She put her arm around Aisha. "That's my girl." She said with a giggle.
Sam and Robby were gathering up their things. "I'm sorry about Aisha." He told her softly. "She can be friends with how ever she wants." Her voice held a edge to it. Amanda walked over, rummaging through her purse. "Have either of you seen my wallet? " Robby looked over at her, his face gone serious. "You're missing your wallet?" He asked. "I'll go check the beach. Maybe someone turned it into the lifeguard."
Robby walked onto the beach, feeling under the stairs to the pier, some wallets and other things falling from the hiding spot. "I knew it." Robby said through gritted teeth. Tray and Cruz were walking down the stairs. "Same shit, different summer." Robby said confronting the two. He had set his phone up to record. "So you didn't learn your lesson last time? That's cool." Tray said, his voice smooth and cold like a frozen lake. "We can give you a refresher course." Robby got into his fighting position. "Bring it." As he said that a man hitting him over the head with a ore, sending him to the ground. "Did you forget this is a three man job?" Tray asked, all of them laughing.
"For a smart kid, you sure learn slow." Tray said. Robby was slowly getting up before the guy who hit him, grabbed him, holding him in place. "Maybe we need to give him something to remember us by." Cruz flicked out a switchblade. Daniel dropped over the railing of the stairs, knocking the knife from Cruz's hand. "Let him go." The man said sternly. "Don't listen to him. Okay, grandpa let's do it." Daniel fought of Tray and Cruz. The third guy shoved Robby to the ground and walked towards Daniel at a slow pace. Daniel blocked his punch before punching him in the face and then the stomach and giving him two kicks in the head sending him down. Robby stood up, his hand on the spot he was hit. "Your grandpa know how to move like that?" Daniel asked the three groaning boys. "Come on." He told Robby.
Sam was stretching. Robby and Daniel walking put of the dojo. "Mr. Miyagi didn't come to me, he wasn't looking for students. He took me in because I needed him. We just have to be patient and they will find us, right?" Daniel smiled. "Excuse me?" Demetri said as he walked into the back. "It was unclear if the gate was the front or if I should ring the doorbell. Is that a koi pond? How much does it cost to maintain that?" He asked, confusing the lot. "May I help you?" Daniel asked him. "Oh um..I want to learn karate." Demetri looked at him. The three started smiling. "You have come to the right place." He said, making Demetri smile.
Johnny was in front, teaching. "The back trust kick works like this. Step, pivot, do a side kick." Johnny said, demonstrating. "What if your opponent attacks from behind?" Eli asked. "Excellent question. Sensei Kreese, you want to take this one?" He looked over at the older man. "Certainly Sensei Lawrence." Kreese started to walk towards the center since he was standing off to the side. Johnny moved to the side. "Are you sure about this Sensei?" Miguel asked in a whisper. "There's nothing to worry about." Johnny assured him. "The key to this move is to make your opponent think you're retreating. But just as their letting their guard down. That's when you strike the hardest."
