S1E8 molting
Johnny cracked open a beer, standing on the hood of a car in the middle of a junkyard. "You've worked hard. You've gotten stronger, tougher, faster. You think you've given your best? Your ready for this tournament right?" He looked down and out at his students. "Yes Sensei!" They said together. "Wrong!" Johnny threw the can down at there feet. "You want to win the All Valley under 18 karate tournament? You're best isn't good enough." He told them in a loud voice. "Are you losers?"
"No Sensei!"
"Are you nerds?"
"No Sensei!" The studens answered back in perfect harmony. "Are you sure?" Johnny asked. "No Sensei!" Was the reply, Johnny covered his face with his hands, sighing softly. He had them do multiple things, running through tires, smashing car windows, walking over a board that was over the rusted debris. Johnny handed his students pieces of jerky. "To win you gotta be hungry. Are you hungry?" He asked. "Yes Sensei." The students said. Johnny smirked some. "Yeah well so are they." He blew into a dog whistle. The sound of dogs barking starting to be heard, getting closer. Aisha was the first to see them. "Oh shit." She said and took off, the others soon following suit.
Robby rode his skateboard up to the Larusso house, going through the gate towards the pool. Sam was relaxing on a chair, sun bathing. He looked at her for a moment then turned to leave, walking directly into the wooden windchims, the noise catching Sam's attention. She sat up, opening her eyes. "Oh hey." She said as bit confused, unsure about who he was. "Sorry I was looking for Mr. Larusso. He was supposed to meet me in the dojo to train." He told her. Sam nods some. "Then I should thank you. He tried roping me onto it." Sam smiled at him. Robby laughed some, a bit of nerves showing. "So you must he the daughter he talks about all the time." She grinned at him. "I hope so. I'm Samantha." She introduced herself. "Robby." Daniel had walked out of the house, behind Robby, looking over and seeing the two. "Oh would you look at this. My current student and my former student." He said with a smile as he walked towards the two, a cooler in hand. "You know Sam if you want to join us there's still time." He offered his daughter, both males looking at her. "I'm actually going to the mall with mom and grandma." She told them, Robby's eyes hasn't left her once. He thought she was very pretty. "That's good. Call me if there's any blood shed." He told her. "Robby give me a hand with this. We're taking the suv. Bye sweetheart." He said as he started walking towards the front. "Bye dad have fun." She smiled, still laughing some, "It was uh nice meeting you." Robby told her. Sam turned her soft eyes back to him. "Yeah you too. And uh good luck with the tree." She obviously knew something he didn't. "Robby." Daniel said, making the boy look back. Robby walked over to Daniel as the two started for the car. "Tree? What tree? Where are we going?" Robby asked. Daniel smiled and patted his shoulder. "Don't worry. You'll see."
"When I was a kid Mr. Miyagi took me to a lake up north to train. I tried to take Sam there once but after the drought it was more like a puddle." Daniel explained as they pulled up to this beautiful forest area. "So I found this place instead." He said as they were walking in the forest, surrounded by the yellow leaves. "You hear that? I want you to just close your eyes and listen." Daniel said as he stopped walking, the boy doing the same. Robby looked at bit confused but closed his eyes, off to the side of them was a lake.
"What do you hear?" Daniel asked him after a moment. "I hear...nothing." Robby said, opening his brown eyes. Daniel smiled widely at him. "Exactly. No phone calls, no Internet, no family arguments. Just you and mother nature." The wind was blowing softly, Robby looking around the Fall promising forest. " That's why we're here." That's what Miyagi-Do karate is all about. Come on." Daniel started to lead the boy further into the forest.
Daniel and Robby stood on a dock, that lead out into the lake. The sunset casting a golden glow over them as the two practiced kata, moving together in slow and beautiful movements. It was relaxing to do as well as watch.
They moved into the woods, Daniel was wearing a umpire like outfit. "You're going to make a strong front stance and when you throw, twist your hips and snap the punch. All your power here." He was pointing to middle knuckle. "Got it?" Robby got into position. "Yes sir." Whenever Daniel kiai Robby would punch. They did this for a little while till going back to kata, now standing in the open.
Daniel and Robby were walking back to the car, the leaves crunching and rustling beneath their feet. "Wow..I feel like Jackie Chan or something." Robby said with a smile. Daniel chuckled some and looked over his shoulder at the boy. "I have to admit you're more of a natural then I was. But don't get too cocky, there's always another lesson to be learned." Daniel told the not as he pushed a branch out of his way. "Is that all Mr. Miyagi saying?" Robby asked him, smiling. Daniel turned to where he was walking backwards. "Nah I just made that one up on the fly. Pretty good huh?" The older man smiled before turning back so he wouldn't trip over anything. "So,.are we going home?" Robby asked as they slowed to a stop in front of a fallen tree, but the tree was being held up slightly by another tree. "You wish but training isn't over yet." Daniel told him, Robby now looking confused. "You know all the rules but none of that matters if you don't have balance." Robby smiled at him. "I balance on my skateboard everyday." He said, making Daniel laugh some. "I don't mean balance in your body, I mean balance in your life." He said more seriously, Robby's smile fading some. "Robby I know it's hard growing up without a dad, trust me. Mine died when I was young, so I know. But when all those bad things start to weigh you down. You just need to look deep inside and find the good things it's then...there will be balance." Daniel told him, Robby truly listening to the man.
"Understand? It's hard but you will do it." Daniel said. "Mr. Larusso I got to tell you something." Robby said, his smile not returning at all. Daniel looked at him. "Sure what is it?" He asked curiously. Robby opened his mouth to say something but then stopped and smiled. "Thank you for teaching me." Daniel gave him a smile. "Don't thank me yet, you're about to hate me. Shed that duffle bag and get onto this tree right here." Robby smiled some and put the bag on the forest floor.
Robby walked towards the front, pulling himself up with the branches. "Come on, find your balance." Daniel told him. "Now show me what we did today. Start with a front kick." Robby did the kick, staying in the same spot. "Good. Now try a roundhouse kick." Robby did those ones as well then looked down at Daniel. "Is this supposed to be hard?" He asked. Daniel looked up at him. "Alright hot shot show me a hook kick." Robby got into position, doing the hook kick and falling off the tree onto the ground. He let out a cough as he laid in the leaves. Daniel looked over at him. "There it is. Are you alright?" He asked as Robby got up, his hair a mess. "Yeah." He said, looking over at the tree. "What do I do now?" Robby asked. "You get back up there and try again." Daniel replied
"Let me know when you can do all the kicks without falling." Daniel pulled out his phone and started to walk away. "Where are you going?" Robby asked him. "The Devils are playing The islanders on the east coast. I'm going to a place with better service." Robby spread his arms in a questioning manner. "What happened to no distractions?" He asked. Daniel had his back turned but smiled anyway. "Hockey doesn't count."
Miguel, Aisha and Eli were at the movie theater. Eli throwing pieces of popcorn at the girls in front of them. "What's wrong with you?" Aisha asked Miguel, she was sitting in the middle. "I keep thinking about what Sensei told me about Sam's dad." Aisha gave him a confused look. "Sam's dad and Sensei had some beef in the past, what's that to do with you?" Miguel looked over at her. "Do I have to spell it out to you? Sam's dad hates cobra kai, I'm part of Cobra Kai so Sam's dad will hate me," Miguel told her. "Jesus Christ you're such a nerd." Eli said but he didn't look over as he continued to annoy the girls. "I'm telling you it's not just on my mind. Sam was acting weird when her dad walked by,"
"Look I've known Mr. Larusso since the third grade. He's a really nice guy, you just have to talk to him." Aisha said, looking over at Miguel. Miguel looked ahead at the movie screen. "I haven't even been invited over yet, I guess she's too scared to introduce me." Eli looked over at him now. "Dude just go over there, it's the alpha move." He said with a slight smirk on his face. Eli threw another piece of popcorn, this time hitting a big, muscular man in the back of the head. He stood up. "Who the hell did that?" He asked in a level tone. Eli's eyes went wide as he faced forward, acting all innocent.
The fallen tree was cloaked in the shadows as the sun started to disappear. Robby was practicing the kicks, as he got to the hook kick he hesitate for a moment before trying. When he did it he wobbled a bit but steadied himself. Robby practiced it a few more times before getting it down. He sat down on the tree and smiled proudly.
Robby was walking through the forest, trying to find Daniel. When he found him, Daniel was doing a hand stand on a flat rock. Slowly he started to raise one hand. "Mr. Larusso?" Robby asked in a confused voice. Daniel's eyes opened and he looked over. "Huh?" His focus had broken as he fell onto his shoulder then back. Robby rushed over to his side. "I almost did it. Almost." Daniel said as he sat up. Robby looking up at him. "What were you doing?" Daniel loved to where his legs hung off the rock. "One of the last things Mr. Miyagi ever taught me. The most powerful kick in Miyagi-Do karate. " A smile crossed Robby's lips. "How do you do it?" He asked curiously. "I wish I could show ya. Only Mr. Miyagi could do it. You have to balance your whole body on your hand which frees up two legs for the kick. I almost did it once in my twenties so the fact that I got that close today's pretty damn awesome." Daniel said with a smile. "How'd you do on the tree?" He asked the boy. "I did all the kicks without falling."
"Good, now that you've mastered that. You're ready for the next challenge." Daniel said standing up and walking towards the edge, Robby following his movement. "Yeah? And what's that?" He asked as Daniel jumped off the rock. "Finding the car. This place is like a maze." Daniel told him. Robby laughed some.
Daniel and Robby were walking into the kitchen, night had fallen by now. Amanda and Lucille were standing by the oven, talking and laughing. "Look who's here. Come on in." Lucille said. Amanda looked over ad smiled. "Hey."
"Amanda and I are making dinner." Daniel was walking up, a happy and stunned smile on his face. Sam walked out of the hall into the kitchen. "You owe me big time." She said to Daniel with a smile as she picked up a wine glass, Daniel looked at her. "How did you do this? No." He took the glass from her and placed it on the table. Sam was smiling still as she waked to mix up the salade. "Hey you want to stay for dinner?" Daniel asked Robby. Robby glanced over at Sam with a smile. "Sure yeah thanks." The boy replied. "Where's Louie?" Daniel asked as he poured himself a glass of wine. "He said he couldn't make it." His mom said in a slightly confused voice. "It keeps getting better." Daniel said as he took a sip of wine
Miguel rode his bike up to the Larusso house. He took off his helmet and held it in his hands. "Hi Mr. Larusso I'm Miguel." He practiced nervously before quickly setting the helmet down and trying again. "Hello Mr. Larusso I'm Miguel. And Sam's boyfriend." He heard laughter coming from the backyard and walked around. The whole Larusso clan, expect Anthony, and Robby sitting back there. "You had to have fallen off more then once." Sam said with a laugh. "No I almost fell again but I caught myself." Sam lightly hit his arm. "That counts as falling." She said, still laughing. "No it doesn't." Robby laughed as well. They started talking about the handstand Daniel did. "How much did he pay you to say that?" Sam asked. Robby looked at her. "No it wasn't that bad." Miguel looked heartbroken as he walked away.
