S1E5 Counterbalance
Johnny and Miguel were in the dojo working on exercises. Miguel was able to do the push ups on his knuckles. The sun was setting by now, casting a golden glow into the building. Johnny and Miguel were sparring, it went on for a bit before Miguel swept Johnny's leg, sending the man to the ground. Johnny pressed a button on a remote, the baseball luncher spitting one out and hitting Miguel in the back of the head. The boy groaned, his hand going to cover the spot. He fell to his knees. "What the hell? That wasn't fair." Johnny was getting to his feet. "You want a fair fight? Dream on. You can't expect you're enemy will always play by the rules." Johnny told him. "That baseball was your enemies friend coming up from behind. You got to be prepared for anything." He said as Miguel slowly got to his feet. Johnny went to look at Miguel's ear, pushing his hand out of the way. It was red and starting to bruise. "It's fine. Don't be a baby." The bell chimed with its beautiful sound and a group of women with yoga mats walked in. "It's five o'clock, Twilight is upon us." She said with a smile. Miguel was covering his ear again and looked at johnny confused. "What's going on?"
Johnny looked at him. "Oh I had to sub out the dojo for a few hours just until we get more studens." The woman looked around, "We need to change the energy in here." They took out a banner that said "Love is here to namaste" and covered the bold lettering of STRIKE FIRST. STRIKE HARD. NO MERCY . Johnny looked at them with a confused look on his face.
Shannon, Robby's mom, walked out of the apartment, wearing a black dress that went to her mid thigh and off the shoulder sleeves. Robby looked disappointed and sad as she left.
Johnny held targets in his hands as Miguel kicked and hit them. "What's the second way of the first?" Johnny asked. "Strike hard." Miguel was a bit out of breath. "That's right the only reason to hit someone is to inflict pain. Striking hard is giving it all you got." He told the boy. The door opened right as Miguel went to pubcb again but Johnny lowered the targets. "No yoga until five. Not matter how bad you need it." He told them. "Actually I came here for karate." Aisha said in a small voice. "I saw your website and it said there was a session today." Johnny looked at her. "I'm sorry but there's no girls in cobra kai." Miguel looked over at him confused. "Why not?" Aisha asked. "The same reason there isn't women in the army. It doesn't make sense." Miguel sighed. "Sensei there's something I need to show you in the office." The two walked off and bowed before leaving the main room.
Johnny sat on the desk. "Don't give me that sexist bullshit." He said, pointing at Miguel who sighed and leaned against the wall. "I'm just saying that women aren't meant to fight. They have tiny hollow bones." Miguel looked at his Sensei. "Aren't you desperate for more students? " Miguel asked him. "Yeah but this isn't a knitting class this is a dojo." Johnny asked. "The kids at school call her names and make fun of her." Miguel sighed. Johnny just gave him a look. "That's what happens when you eat a entire box of Twinkies everyday,"
"Her dad is Isaiah Robinson." Miguel said. "Hall of fame lineman for the chargers." He finished. Johnny just looked at bit confused. "So are you saying it's genetic, her love of Twinkies comes from her dad?" Miguel leaned forward some. "No I'm saying her family is loaded and she's a paying costumer. You need the money right?." Johnny looked at him before going back into the main room.
"Okay take off your shoes and hop on the mat." Johnny told her. Aisha put a hand on the wall as she took her shoes off. She walked forward, standing in front of Johnny. "Okay. After further review I have decided to allow female students. But if you want to be part of Cobra Kai you can't act like a girl." Miguel shook his head, a look of disbelief on his face. "What do you mean by that? How do girls act?" Aisha asked. Johnny looked at her. "Don't give me that. You know. Emotional, loud, complaining, never letting you finish a sentence." Aisha looked at him. "Well I know a few guys who ac-" But she was cut off as Johnny said. "Quite!" He started to circle her. "My student tells me you've been harassed at school," Aisha looked over at Miguel before frowning some. "Yeah but mostly online. I get mean texts and emails sent to me. It makes me not want to go." Johnny was pacing in front of her but not looking at her. "Who sends you these messages?" He asked her. "Well, their mostly anonymous. These kids create fake accounts and tell me stuff like I'm ugly or that I should kill myself." She sighed. Jonny stopped pacing and stood in front of her. "My God. What a bunch of p**sies. Back in my day if you wants to tease someone you did it to their face. It was honor, respect. These geeks hide behind their computers. What a bunch of spineless losers. Are you scared of these losers?" Aisha looked at him. "No."
"Are you gonna take shit from these losers?" He asked her. "No." Aisha replied, looking at the older man. "Good because when I'm done with you, you will be sending a message back but it won't be with your keyboard. It will be with your fists." He said as he raised his fists. A slow smile spread on her face.
"Okay miss Robinson let's see what you got." Johnny said. Miguel and Aisha standing across from each other. "Face me, bow. Face each other, bow." The two did as instructed before Miguel looked over at Johnny. "I don't think this is right." He said in a low voice. "What?" Johnny asked, looking at him. "She's a girl."
"And? You said women were equal to men." Johnny said. "I did say that but not like that." Miguel tried to tell him. "Okay then show her women are equal and give her everything you got." Johnny said, hands on his hips. "Wait I just want to remind everyone it's my first day." Aisha said. Johnny looked over at her. "Your enemies don't care what day it is. You just have to conquer your fear and jump face first into the fire." He told her intent on his stern voice.
"Are you ready miss Robinson?" He asked. "I guess." She replied looking back over at Miguel, "Mister Diaz." Johnny looked at the boy, Miguel looked at him. "Fight!" Johnny declared. Miguel just looked at him. "Don't just stand there. Fight!" Miguel looked back at Aisha, getting into a stance. "I'm sorry." He told her, a confused expression crossing her face. He lunged forward with a kick to her stomach, sending the girl to the ground. "Oh my God I'm so sorry, Aisha are you okay? come." Miguel said with a worried look on his face as the girl propped herself up on her elbow. She moved quickly and picked him up before body slamming him to the ground and dropping a knee into his stomach. Miguel groaned in pain. Johnny looked impressed. "Girls a natural cobra." Voices could be heard outside, catching Johnny's attention. "Okay dudes stay here. Diaz your in charge." Aisha helped Miguel up as Johnny walked out.
Robby was sitting on the couch in total darkness, looking up cobra kai's website. His mom and her nightly guy walked in. "Okay be quiet," She whispered. "You be quiet." He replied, in a joking tone. She laughed. "Okay boss man. I like how you take charge." She giggled as they got closer to the bedroom. "But we got to be quite, my son's home.' They closed the door it wasn't long till you heard her girl again. Robby pulled on headphones and started listening to rock music.
Miguel, Demetri and Eli were walking into the cafeteria, holding their trays of food. "Hey guys!" Kyler said loudly, everyone looking over at him and his friends and Sam. He brought up the billboard of Larusso's auto. "Guess Sam takes after her dad." He said with a smirk. Sam looked furious. "Hey Kyler why don't you shut the hell up and stop being a asshole?" Miguel said as he walked up after putting his food on a table. Kyler looked at the shorter boy. "You want another round Rhea?" He asked shoving Miguel. "I'm ready for your lame ass karate this time," He shoved him again, this time Miguel's back hitting the table. He stood back up and looked at Kyler. "It isn't lame ass karate." He said, Kyler went to shove him but Miguel caught his arm, locking it up. 'It's Cobra Kai." Miguel said as he punched Kyler in the nose, sending him backwards. Kyler reached up, blood coming from his nose. Kyler moved quickly and grabbed him, slamming him against the table before putting him in a headlock. Miguel elbowed him in the ribs before getting our of his hold and punching him in the face. "No mercy!" Aisha called.
Miguel turned right as Kyler's red head friend went to punch him. He ducked down, sweeping his leg before roundhouse kicking another guy in the face. He was fighting the other two now. The red head got back up and joined the frey. Everyone was gathered in a circle, recording the fight. Kyler got back up and Miguel moved to the table, crouching. Kyler rushed him but Miguel kicked him in the chest before hitting him in the side of the head with a tray. Everyone clapped and cheered, a smile on Sam's face. He was then take to the principal's office.
Miguel went to the dojo to tell Johnny what happened. "All four if them? Even the big dumb one?" He asked with disbelief. "Yeah. Everything happened so fast and everything just seemed to come together." He was smiling brightly. Johnny sighed. "Your mom's going to kill both of us." Miguel shrugged. "If she knew. When the school called my ya-ya answered, I've never seen her look so proud. She won't talk." Johnny stood up from the desk. "So let me get this straight. You took those lessons I thought you and used then to straight up beat the shit out of those punks." Miguel hung his head down then looked back up. "Well yeah." Johnny just looked at him. "Follow me."
Johnny lead Miguel out to his car, popping the trunk. Inside was Johnny's Cobra Kai gi. "I wore this when I was training for my first tournament back in '81. I want you to have it." Miguel looked at him with shock as Johnny reached in a grabbed the gi. "Are you sure?" Miguel asked as it was placed in his hands. "Hell yeah. You earned it." Johnny held out his hand. Miguel smiled as he took his hand and shook it. Johnny closed the trunk. "That's it that's the best thing I got." He told him. "Thanks Sensei.' Miguel smiled, pulling him into a hug. Johnny hugged back, patting the boy's back some. Robby looked at the two from the side of the building. He remained there a second before walking away.
Johnny pulled up to the dojo, a line of people standing outside. "Looks like we're in business." Johnny told Miguel with a half smile as he unlocked the doors.
Robby was sitting in Amanda's office looking for a job. "Welcome to the Larusso family." She smiled, shaking the boys hand.
