Chapter 2

Clyde woke up and something felt wrong. He glanced around at his surroundings and deciphered that he was in the middle of somewhere unfamiliar. There were trees surrounding him in all directions, towering above him in an intimidating way. The sun was beating down on him but, for some reason, he didn't feel at all hot. He felt perfectly fine, temperature-wise.

'Where am I?' was his immediate thought. He didn't recognise the trees or the rocky path beneath his feet. He squinted his eyes to recognise there was a tall mound of land in the distance with a light flashing at the peak.

Clyde decided that heading for it would be his best option.

He was no longer wearing any pyjamas: they had been replaced with some sort of suit. It wasn't anything like a formal suit.. it was something that a superhero would wear. The flexible blue material felt comfortable on his body. Embedded across his chest was a blue droplet of water. It was like a badge but Clyde had no idea what it meant.

He trekked forward, his feet feeling light on the rough ground. His outfit had no pockets so he didn't have a phone or any mode of communication, leaving him stranded in the middle of somewhere he had never seen before.

There was a dream sense to this reality but, considering Clyde could feel the soft breeze against his spandex covered arms and the impact of the ground against his feet, it was real. There were some birds, cheerfully singing a soft melody which made the place seem a lot less intimidating.

Clyde reached up to bring his hand through his hair but he froze as soon as his fringe fell against his eyes: it was no longer brown.. it was blue. A bright, electrifying blue.

He was just so puzzled about everything.. He woke up, after going to bed like normal, in the middle of nowhere, in a spandex suit with bright blue hair.

He tried his best to ignore the sound of his beating heart but that was hard when it was pounding inside his chest.

-

Clyde had been walking for around half an hour (he had no watch so he couldn't say exactly) when he came across a small stream. He walked closer to it before cupping his hand and scooping up a little of the liquid. As soon as it came in contact with his hand, it got colder until it hardened into ice. Clyde gasped, stepping back to see that the water was now a block of ice and he had done that to it. He let it drop and, coming in contact with the warm stream again, it melted.

He had no idea what was going on and it was petrifying him.

-

A little town surrounded the base of the hill. Clyde was surprised when he stumbled upon it as there had been no signs of human life up to that point. However, the roads and homes seemed deserted. Upon closer look, the houses were completely abandoned. Most of the windows were completely smashed and a couple of the doors were wide open or, in some cases, not there at all. It appeared that the people could have been leaving quickly.. either that or some disastrous event had taken place in the area.

Clyde walked closer, taking it slow, as if he was afraid to wake up the sleeping town.  He stepped inside one of the abandoned homes and his heart broke when he looked around. The furniture was thrown around in a messy way and there were remains of old ornaments and photos on the floor.

'This place was once a home' Clyde thought, his heart clenching. 'People grew up here'. The thought made his mood drop drastically since... someone or something had ruined the homeliness of the town.

He tore his eyes away from the upsetting sight and carried on walking again.

-

The hill was really steep. Rocks jutted out of small gaps, making it easy to lose your footing. He carefully climbed, avoiding the dangerous, unsteady rocks which were inconveniently placed.

He was out of breath by the time he was just a quarter way up. He pressed his hand against his forehead, expecting it to be hot out of exhaustion but it was as cold as ice. His hand sent shivers throughout his body and it strived him forward.

Sports weren't Clyde's strong suit so he wasn't physically fit but climbing the hill wasn't the hardest job. What was making it harder was the curiosity and anxiety of what will be at the hill's peak welling in his chest.

-

Clyde was met with another stream at his feet once he was a fair way up. He dipped his hands in, scooping some water out and bringing it to his mouth. By the time it touched his lips, it was refreshingly cold and the feeling of it travelling down his throat was the best thing in the world.

Did you all have a good Christmas? :3
