Chapter 12
Landing in a helicopter was one of the best experiences that Clyde had ever felt. Despite the fact that he was about to force families to leave their homes, it was so awesome to see the town from above. The pilot smiled widely (for the hundredth time) and wished them luck on their 'adventures'. "I'll be here when you return."
"Thank you!" Lucifer said before climbing out of the helicopter and dropping to the ground. Clyde quickly followed.
The two boys exchanged looks before walking towards the closest house. Lucifer held out his hands, wincing slightly as the smell of smoke filled both their nostrils. A man and a woman ran out of the house, screaming. Upon laying their eyes upon Lucifer and Clyde, the man tackled Lucifer to the ground. "Was that you? Is this some joke to you?" The man yelled, clenching fists and holding them up in the air. Clyde panicked, holding out shaky hands.
"Clyde!" Lucifer screamed. He couldn't use his powers because the man's hands were on his and, therefore, he couldn't do anything.
Clyde's hands were blurs and he had both his eyes shut. "Focus. FOCUS!" His mind screamed but he couldn't. He couldn't get his mind together. His thoughts were running around his mind, not settling anywhere.
"CLYDE!" Lucifer screamed again and then he yelped as the man swung at his nose. Immediately, red began to drip and Clyde's senses kicked in. Finally, he found concentration and the man on top of Lucifer froze.
Lucifer's heart was beating so fast that he was struggling to find his breath. He pushed the ice figure off of him and leaped up, his eyes wide. "Why did that take you so long?!" He snapped, holding a hand against his nose to stop the blood from dripping.
"I didn't want to hurt someone who was innocent!" Clyde yelled, still not believing that he had just frozen a man that hadn't done anything wrong.
"He hit me, Clyde. How is he innocent? If you let him, he probably would have killed me!"
"Maybe we both deserved that for burning down a home of a family that did nothing wrong. Look, Lucifer, there's going to be nothing left soon." Lucifer turned, staring at the small house that was still covered in flames. Smoke was rising high in the sky and people were begin to run out of their homes, worried. "I can't do this. I don't care about getting home anymore. I just want these people to be safe."
"Clyde, it's either them or us."
"Us. We can get killed and they can go back to their happy lives."
"Their lives weren't happy before us. People were killing others and burning villages anyway. It's inevitable."
"I just don't know anymore." Clyde bit his lip and thrust out two hands, pointing them at the burning house. He concentrated as hard as he could and cooled the flames. The fire took a while to disappear but it eventually did. "Once you realise that we're making things worse for innocent people... come and find me."
Tears were falling down Clyde's cheeks but he didn't care anymore. He hated hurting people and that seemed to be all he and Lucifer were doing. Ever since they came to the universe, people were hurt and killed and homes were destroyed. Families were split up and valuable items had become nothing but dust.
Clyde wasn't selfish. He didn't want to go home if it meant having to destroy people's lives. He only wanted to go home once everyone was safe and happy.
"Clyde!" Lucifer yelled, running after his friend who was slowly getting further away. "Listen to me," He reached out, grabbing Clyde's arm and forcing him to stand still. "I know you don't want people to get hurt- I don't want people to get hurt either. All we need to do is somehow get Flynn out of the building so that we can kill him, okay? He's the only person we need to kill because he is behind all of this unhappiness. We can do this but I can't do it on my own. You can't do it on your own either so, please," Lucifer held out his hand with a soft, pleading smile, "Help me."
Clyde looked at Lucifer's hand, unsure. He glanced towards Lucifer's eyes to see they were tearing up and he obviously really wanted Clyde to help. Clyde put his hand on Lucifer's and smiled. "Okay. Just don't hurt people unless we really need to."
"Okay, thank you." Lucifer pulled his friend into a hug.
-
"You both failed. Completely. Did you even listen to the mission? You set a single house on fire and one person was hurt. That's hardly the whole town, is it?" Flynn said, shaking his head as he circled the boys. "I am thoroughly disappointed in you both. We had a deal, remember? You do what I say and I get you home."
"We don't want to be part of the deal anymore." Clyde blurted out, clenching his fists at his sides. He didn't care about getting home anymore.
"A deal's a deal, Clyde. Don't you know that? I shook Lucifer's hand and therefore we cannot break the deal. Unless... you want your little friends dead?" Lucifer frowned, his thoughts running fast through his head with different ideas and possibilities. There must be some way to get out of this..
"No!" Clyde yelled, glaring at the man. Lucifer looked to his left at Clyde who looked both angry and sad. Tears were filling his eyes and threatening to spill over. Lucifer needed to come up with something.. quick..
"You have to do what I say. I have complete control over you now."
It went silent. Then Lucifer spoke up with a smirk. "No, you don't. We're the ones with powers; as soon as you leave this building, you're helpless."
"I never leave this building, Lucifer. Unlike you, I actually have a brain."
"Oh yeah? I bet I could coax you out.." Lucifer's face wore a smirk that screamed mischief. Clyde wasn't entirely in on his plan but he was sure he would pick up on it. Like lightening, Lucifer held out both hands and flames filled the room. Although Flynn wouldn't be affected by the flames or smoke, his workers would.. as would the building itself and the machines keeping Flynn safe. "Run!" Lucifer screamed, sprinting out of the room. As he ran, his hands set more things on fire and soon the whole building was in flames.
Clyde was pretty much helpless as he watched everything around them burn. People were screaming but Clyde didn't feel the slightest bit sorry for them: they were all evil.
The two boys got outside the building to safety to find many people around them coughing and crying. The whole building was alight and, by that point, anyone inside would be dead. Flynn was probably the only man inside alive.
Around ten minutes later, Flynn came running out the building, his clothes covered in a smoke-y black. He looked more than angry and he screamed, "Somebody help me!" with fear and fury in his eyes. No one came to help him because they were too worried about themselves. Clyde and Lucifer ran forward, smirking.
"Now who's in control?" Lucifer grinned, his fire-y red fringe falling over his electrifyingly blue eyes. His grin wasn't particularly evil but there was something sinister about it.
Clyde chuckled, holding up his hand as a flicker of energy escaped from his palm. Him and Lucifer were standing shoulder to shoulder, their hands stretched out in front of them towards the enemy.
Their powers were filling them both, soon to escape and attack Flynn.
The energy was overbearing. It was stronger than any electric current and it widely shook both of their bodies.
Flynn was screaming, excruciating pain running through his bones. There was no way to describe the intensity of the pain but no person would have been able to withstand it for any more than a millisecond. Flynn's cries were louder than anything anyone had heard before as he crumpled to the ground. His eyes were clenched shut as he shook in pain.
Then his screams stopped completely.
That was when both Clyde and Lucifer knew that they had done it. They had succeeded in killing the man that made everyone's life in Ashville miserable.
Sunlight seemed to burst through the clouds, brightening up the whole area. The building that was in flames was still roaring but it didn't feel bad anymore, it was just satisfactory. Clyde and Lucifer both dropped to the floor, heavily breathing due to the immense amount of energy that had gone into Flynn's destruction. All of the people around them ran towards them with grins on their faces.
"Thank you!" One screamed, happy tears falling down their cheeks. "He was forcing me to work for him; he threatened my family!"
"We're free!"
"Finally, he's dead! He was nothing but a bad man!"
Clyde and Lucifer smiled softly, slowly regaining their energy. Both stood up and Lucifer yelled, "Can anyone get us to Ashville? We need to go see our friends and make sure they're okay!"
A thousand people yelled with offers because everyone wanted to help. Lucifer and Clyde had freed them and saved the world, they deserved a free ride home.
