Chapter Three
I was sitting in my room, trying to figure out what Kayden said. "I'm clueless?" I asked myself. "Clueless of what? What do I not know?"
There was a soft knock on the door and Nika poked her head in. "Julia you start school soon, I thought maybe a trip to the mall would you some good." She grinned.
"Why can't you tell me?" I questioned her, upset that she's keeping the knowledge I need to know from me.
"What do you mean?" Nika opened the door wider and stepped inside my room.
"You said you're not allowed to explain what's going on, only Kayden can." I still can't put any pieces together, it's like the pieces don't want to be put together, almost as if the pieces are all lost and have different shapes that don't fit together.
"I wish I could tell you, but I'd get in trouble..." She looked away and stared off into space.
"By who? There's no one standing by and giving you orders so-"
"Yes, there is." She interrupted me. "But once more, I'm not allowed to explain to you." A sad look crossed her face and I looked down at my lap disappointed.
"Come on, let's go." Nika said standing.
"What about Kayden?" There's no way we can leave him home alone like that. I won't allow it.
"He'll be fine, trust me."
"Okay..."
---------------------------
I walked into the food court with two bags in each hand, laughing uncontrollably.
"It's true!" Nika said.
"There is no way in hell you had the guts to perform on stage!" I laughed.
"Watch, I'll do it again!" She yelled before running off toward the center of the small stage.
Nika tapped the microphone a few times, then said, "Testing, testing, one, two, three!" I sat down at a nearby table and exploded in laughter. "Is this thing on? Yeah? Okay, I would like to sing a song for all of you."
I couldn't believe Nika was up there right now! She started singing 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' and I could not keep a straight face for more than three seconds.
"Thank you all so very much!" She yelled. "I'll be back on Saturday! Tips are greatly excepted!" After a quick bow, she trotted off the stage and we both made a run for the nearest exit, with two security guards on our tails.
"That was probably the best thing that I have ever seen you do!" I said once we were back in the car.
"I told you." She replied and we both had another fit of laughter. "I'm gonna crash if I keep laughing this hard, so shut up until we're back home." She said sternly.
"Well that's not very nice!" Another fit of laughter.
"Nika!" I screamed as a truck came spinning toward us. Lights flashed, and the sound of metal against metal filled my ears.
I screamed again as the windshield burst apart and the glass flew at me. "Julia! Get out of the car!" Nika demanded.
"I can't! We're still moving!" I yelled back.
"Open the door, and jump! Your reflexes will save you!" She hit the unlock button on the door and something landed on the top of the car, crushing us both. "NOW!"
I pushed the door as hard as I could and leaped out of the spinning car. I landed with a thud on the street and cried out as pain flew across my ribs.
"Nika!" I yelled out, wincing at the pain. "Nika!" I tried once more. "NIKA!" I cried for the third time.
Another car was stopped on the side of the road with a woman on her cellphone, probably calling 911. "Julia run!" Nika called to me from our overturned car.
"You can't get caught! They'll find out! You'll heal within a few hours, just run!" She screamed.
"Sweetie are you okay?" The woman called, walking toward me. Nika's words rang in my head: 'you can't get caught, run!'
I jumped up onto my feet, and full on sprinted off into the forest on the side of the road. I was running on pure adrenaline. Blood poured out of every single inch of my body, but I kept my pace.
I found a hiking trail, and took a right on the split path. Within minutes, I could see the outskirts of town and I made my way back to the house.
I threw the door open and ran inside, looking for Kayden. "Julia..." Kayden gasped as he ran down the stairs. "What happened?"
"Car crash...Nika told me to run...I ran...someone called 911...Nika's still there...I just ran ten miles in five minuets...room spinning, lights fading..." I took a shallow breath before I fell to the ground, watching the world slowly fade from view.
