8. Lighting a Fire

{Vongola headquarter, Italy}

"Small trash in position," the raven muttered to no one in particular, a hand near his right ear as if he was holding an earpiece. To those watching him from afar, he only seemed to be brushing his raven bangs aside.

Next to him, hidden by the male's long black trench coat, a petite figure stared at the man with a deadpan look. Now I understand why I'm the one responsible for the communication, they thought, mentally rubbing their temples, already tired of the raven's company.

"Stop playing around," they whispered, giving Yucca a small kick in the legs. "We didn't come here to play." he lectured, his tone sterner.

"Ouch," Yucca winced at the unexpected kick, faking a stumble over the rock he had, just passed. He hadn't pegged Mammon for being violent, then again they weren't there to play. Taking a deep breath, Yucca plastered his perfect business on his face, no sign of his previous actions could be, seen.

At this moment, Yucca wasn't part of the Varia. He wasn't there to take over the Vongola and free the responsible of the infamous Cradle Affair Xanxus. At this moment, Yucca was only a freelance assassin the Vongola had hired to infiltrate the Varia and report their action to them. Right now, Yucca was the Vongola's ally, someone they could believe in, someone they trusted.

"Follow my lead, Mammon," he murmured imperceptibly, calmly making his way towards the Vongola's manor entrance.

Today, like every first Friday of the month, Yucca personally came to the mansion to give his reports and sometimes have a direct audition with the Ninth.

Glancing at his wristwatch, he could see from the corner of his eyes, the driver who had led him out of the Varia headquarter to the Vongola following behind, a few meters away from him. Enough to give the male his "intimacy," but also enough to allow Mammon to go unnoticed.

After all, even though the driver was part of the Vongola, he wasn't hired for his detection skills, sure he could fight and fend for himself like every member of the Vongola, but compared to Mammon who had years of experience in the infiltration domain, he didn't stand a chance. It was painfully obvious. What's more, it seemed Mammon had a few tricks up their sleeve which allowed them to hide from almost anybody.

Or so Mammon pretended, Yucca wasn't there to judge, so long as the plan worked, he wouldn't question Mammon's techniques. It was normal for a hitman to have a few skills nobody but them and a selected few knew they had. Yucca and even Koro weren't different, in their world, it was better to be safe than sorry.

Now a few steps away from the front door, Yucca could see from the corner of his eyes the driver jogging up to him. Casually stepping aside, so to face the driver and better hide Mammon, Yucca smiled, urging the driver to open the door for them.

Giving a small bow, the blond driver pushed the manor's door open, letting the raven enter the main hall. Closing the door, the blond followed closely behind as Yucca made his way deeper into the room.

Stealing a few glances, right and left, Yucca walked a few more meters, his steps getting smaller and smaller as to reduce the space between him and the driver. When he deemed the blond close enough, he swiftly turned around and grabbed the blond's head.

Crack

The blond fell to the floor limply, his lifeless blue eyes staring into space. With his left gloved hand, Yucca closed the male's eyes. "No hard feelings blondy," he whispered as he effortlessly dragged the blond near the window before tossing him outside and letting the body fall behind the mansion's green bushes.

"That was quick," Mammon muttered, his small cloaked figure emerging from Yucca's trench coat. "I didn't expect you to be so... efficient in real-life situations."

Yucca only hummed, "Are you impressed?" he questioned, his voice tinted with childishness and smugness.

Mammon didn't answer him. They instead looked around the corridor. Their eyes, narrowing at the sight of a camera hidden in the corner, observing them. "Are you sure they can't "see" us?" they inquired, their voice barely above a whisper.

Yucca nodded confidently, phone in hand he turned on what seemed to be a self-made app before showing his screen to Mammon. "There, have a look at this. That is what they see," he said indicating the top of his screen, "and that," he pointed at the bottom of his screen, "is what they should see."

Mammon nodded, "Let's hurry, we need to take the security down, we have less than 5 minutes before the others start to move," they directed, making their way toward the first floor's control room.

Once they infiltrate it, Yucca would invade the security and take control of the whole floor, then the others who were more or less, linked to the groundfloor's control room.

To Yucca, or to the God of Death, such a mission would be a piece of cake.

::

"You can go in," Mammon's static voice could be, heard throughout the Varia's earpiece. In less than a second, the peaceful Vongola manor turned into a silent, unnoticeable battlefield.

The Varia was in full control of the situation.

With the Ninth unguarded, Squalo and Bel didn't have any problem capturing him. The man was old now, he had long past his prime, compared to two of the Varia's most splendid member he didn't stand a chance, much less in a surprise attack without any of his guardians.

The Guardians were out, each one on different missions, they were no threat at the moment. Waiting outside, were the Varia's men, ready to kill whoever tried to escape and leak any information.

Placing a decoy in the Ninth's stead, one of the Varia's older member, Bel and Squalo made their way to Levi and Lussuria.

On the other side of the mansion, in one of the many guest rooms stood Levi and Lussuria with a frozen Xanxus in front of them. The man rested in his old room, from when he had been adopted by the ninth.

"How sweet of the Ninth," Lussuria stated at the realization, his voice dripping with unhidden sarcasm.

To win, the Varia only needed the machine Mammon had evoked in their meeting. Then, the plan would be a success.

::

"It should be in the basement," Mammon muttered, leading the way for the newest addition to follow. "Be careful, we don't want to be, discovered." he lectured at the male's humming.

Yucca stopped what he was doing and nodded in agreement, following closely behind his smaller companion.

Now standing in front of the basement's door, Mammon effortlessly pushed the massive door open. "The prototype weapons should be behind this door," they said, their pointer finger indicating the direction.

Yucca merely tilted his head to the side in mild confusion he couldn't see the door his companion seemed to indicate. Glancing at the smaller figure once more, he refrained from asking any questions and instead quietly followed the cloaked figure.

Mammon stood in front of the wall, unmoving. Their gaze flickered to Yucca to see if the male had followed him, before once again resting on the immaculate facade in front of them.

Yucca observed Mammon quizzically, although he didn't "see" what Mammon was looking at, he guessed some, kind of hidden door was present in front of them. Instead of asking questions he knew would be useless and only be a hinder in their situation, he contented himself with observing. Who knows? Maybe looking at Mammon would enlighten him on the mysterious figure's skills.

Slowly, Mammon extended their right hand until their palm entered in contact with the cold hard surface. The two Varia members stayed still for a few seconds.

Then, small ripples started to form around the smaller one's hand, slowly, the wall's hard surface wavered until it completely disappeared, leaving behind a giant metal door.

Yucca stared at the wall in pure confusion and amazement. His gaze shifted to his small companion with curiosity before he once again observed the newly erected door, which stood proudly before them.

He couldn't help but whistle in amazement as the smaller of the two casually opened the door which led to a dim corridor. "I didn't know you could do that Mammon, does it mean entries appear wherever you want?" he childishly asked tilting his head to the right. "Or is it that you can see beyond human sight, beyond any disguise and illusions?" he inquired, his tone deeper as he narrowed his eyes in suspicion.

Mammon barely glanced at the raven behind him at the remark not even twitching he hid what needed to be, hidden perfectly. The impassiveness of the small figure made a feral grin appear on Yucca's face he couldn't wait to unravel the cloaked figure's secret.

"Stop talking," Mammon lectured as he made his way deeper into the corridor to one of the many doors. "You'll need strength to carry the Gola Mosca," he stated before pushing another door open.

Yucca merely smiled at the critic, following the cloaked figure inside, he was, met by the sight of an imposing robot. The robot or Gola Mosca as Mammon had called it rested alone in the far corner of the room. A thin layer of dust covered its metallic structure, indicating it hadn't been moved and used for a while now.

"It was, confiscated by the Vongola after the Cradle Affair," Mammon stated, emotionlessly as he motioned Yucca to move the massive cyborg. "Be careful I don't know it which state it is. We don't need you to break it and slow the boss' unfreezing down," he reprimanded when Yucca forcefully dragged the robot in the middle of the room.

"This is... so heavy," Yucca panted, "You sure I... can... do it on my... own?" he inquired already out of breath.

"You should do more weight work," Mammon evaded the question, "I could sell you some if you want," he proposed as he made his wait out of the room, not waiting for Yucca to follow.

Yucca huffed before slowly dragging the Gola Mosca out of the room and corridor, into the training ground. "How are we... going to be... discreet with this... thing?" he asked, his back resting on the Gola's metal structure as he tried to catch his breath.

Mammon barely spared him a glance before murmuring a few words in his microphone to give the other Varia members direction. "Clear the way for us," Yucca barely made out of the smaller's whisper.

Once Mammon received a satisfying answer, they turned to face Yucca. "Follow my lead," they ordered calmly. Yucca merely nodded his mind not entirely registering the shorter male's whole explanation.

Yucca could feel the world around him wavering the same way the wall had flickered earlier when it turned into a door. Blinking a few times, Yucca glanced at Mammon's small form before once again looking at the room around him which had become still once again.

Not asking any questions, Yucca followed Mammon out of the training room to the room the others were waiting for them in silence.

::

"Voiii! Finally!" Squalo greeted once he saw them.

Mammon didn't spare him a glance and went to the Gola Mosca Yucca had been carrying. On the other hand, Yucca tiredly slumped to the ground, his breathing uneven he didn't register the vice commander's shout, nor did he hear the snickers his comrades were giving him.

Tiredly laying on the ground near the Gola Mosca, Yucca closed his eyes for a minute to regain his breath. In the background, he could faintly hear the sound of the metallic structure being, open. They are probably putting the ninth here he thought absentmindedly.

"Yucca-chan, wakey, wakey," Lussuria cooed near his ear, making the raven flutter his eyes open.

"Ushishishi, come, Yu the boss is going to wake up."

With the potent flames of the Gola Mosca, the ice melted.
