44. Back to the Routine
{Namimori, Japan}
"You wanted to talk to me?" The, now uncursed, Arcobaleno asked from behind his glasses. Unlike the other Arcobalenos, although he did feel uncomfortable around the cloud, he didn't resent him. Well, perhaps he did, but the hate couldn't overcome the lingering feeling of collaboration he received from his future self.
After all, although one was responsible for the other's death, they did work with one another before. Then again, Verde couldn't help but think Innocenti and Koenig's death were linked to the male too. He shook his head. These events had yet to happen, and nothing said they would take place in the future.
The purple-eyed guardian nodded, his face didn't wear his usual smile as he stared at the smaller adult. "First, I would like to apologize, on my future self's behavior's behalf," he began, bowing to the scientist. The baby merely raised an eyebrow, not expecting the apology as he waited for the white to go on.
It seems a weight was taken off of his shoulders as Koro heaved an inaudible relieved sigh. Well, he still needed to see a few ex-Arcobalenos once he was done talking to Verde.
The green head's eyebrow rose as he waited for the male to go on, his lips curling up slightly as he took in the man's relieved figure. "So, what did you want to ask me?" He asked, not beating around the bush.
Koro blinked once, and his usual composure came back. A small smile bloomed on his lips as he casually took a seat on the brown leather couch before the scientist's comfy armchair. "I was wondering. You are, always looking for new challenges and experimentation? Am I wrong?" He inquired cooly.
The ex-lightning Arcobaleno gave a low hum as his brown pupils narrowed in contemplation. He sardonically smirked. "Of course I am. Those people wouldn't have dubbed me 'Da Vinci's Reincarnation' otherwise," he stated derisively.
Yucca chuckled. Right, how could he forget?
::
"Yucca-chan, are you going to the hospital with us?" Lussuria called out from behind his water glass as he glanced at the white head who was leaning in his seat, his hands absentmindedly tipping on his phone.
The cloud guardian perked up at the sun's voice. His fingers trailed to the upper part of his screen to show the time before he hummed in mild agreement. "Yeah, I'll come," he answered as he stood up, his phone now stuffed in his black pants' back pocket. "Isn't the Boss coming out today?" He asked aloud.
Lussuria's positive chirp blended with Leviathan's grunt and glare in his direction. The lightning guardian seemed to be trying to kill his comrade with his eyes as his pupils narrowed more and more. Yucca's purple eyes trailed to the man's hand before he mentally scoffed at himself. Right, stupid question. Why would Leviathan hold a flower bouquet with a wine bottle otherwise?
As he mentally shook his head, Yucca raised an eyebrow questioningly. Where's Bel? He pondered as he didn't catch sight of the teen's signature blond hair. Closing his eyes, as to sharpen his hearing sense, he searched for the boy's trademark laugh.
"You're looking for Bel?" Lussuria asked as if he read the white head's mind. "If so he went ahead, something about wanting to eat sushi once before going back?" he explained, his voice going a bit up as he finished. He wondered what he was telling himself.
"Ah, TakeSushi?" Yucca affirmed as he followed his teammates out of the hotel room. "But at this hour," he whispered. His eyes traveled to his wristwatch, as to check the precise time before he shook his head in defeat. "Well, Bel is the Varia's kid," he murmured, earning a chuckle from the sun guardian.
"Right he is," a large grin graced his lips as he twirled around to face the door. "Though I doubt Bel would like to hear that," he added before opening the door and leading the way out of their room.
Following the tallest guardian, who had escaped the room before them, out of the hotel, Lussuria and Yucca continued to make fun of their missing members.
Namely Belphegor, Squalo, Mammon, and when they thought the lightning guardian couldn't hear them, their Boss.
::
{Varia headquarter, Italy}
Nearly a week had passed since their Boss was discharged from the hospital and three days had gone by from the time they departed from Namimori.
Koro felt neither happy nor disappointed from going back to Italy. Sure, he would miss not seeing his brother or the kids, but it wasn't as if they would never meet again.
He and Byakuran kept close contact, regularly messaging one another and usually calling the other at least once a week. As if the tension they build after their short 'trip' to the future had never existed.
Hanging up, Yucca stared at his phone screen in content before humming and grabbing his black trench. "Now, don't make that face Levi-chan," the white head teased as he took his Vongola rings from his jewelry box.
Seeing the raven's eyes narrowed dangerously at the pet name Koro chuckled. "Fufu, no need to look at me like that. I didn't ask to be paired up with you either."
A grunt, "of course."
"Then we're clear. I'm sure the Boss had his reasons," he added as he passed the door, taking the lead into the corridor.
A low grunt and a spike in the lightning density around the purple-eyed male was enough for him to know the tall guardian heard him. Though, he had to wonder why they of all people teamed up together. It was clear as day that from their first meeting the white, for some unknown reasons, got on the raven's nerve only by breathing.
An astounding fit if he said so himself.
Mentally scoffing and praising himself, Koro's steps got a tad quicker. Well, Boss perhaps wanted them to bond since even if the Varia was all about fighting and killing, inner strife wasn't something they could permit.
Then again, was it even possible for them to see eye to eye?

{???, ???}
"I tell you Levi-chan," Yucca slurred as he chugged another glass of beer down his throat, "being devoted to someone is sooo hard!" He whined sluggishly.
Perhaps it was.
The lightning guardian mutely nodded in understanding. The stoic male didn't seem any different from usual, well, if you exclude the almost empty whiskey glass in his hand and his slightly swimmy pupils.
"No matter what you do, they always think you're after something, or they don't even see you!" He complained before abruptly raising his hand. "Another glass!" he yelled to the barman who sent him a nod, his gaze a mix of pity and sympathy as he shook his head in defeat.
"I wonder if the Boss will notice me one day," Leviathan added to the white-headed male's now unintelligible blabber. Adopting a faraway look the guardian's usually stoic face cracked. His brown and sharp eyes unnoticeably dropped as he tiredly sipped on the amber liquid.
Koro sniffled, humming. Whether he heard and answered the lightning guardian, or he only acknowledged the faraway words coming from the raven's mouth was unknown. Not like the bigger male minded, he too clearly wasn't listening to the white head.
The mission both guardian took ended quicker than they had thought, their targets turned out to be weaker and more predictable than anticipated.
It was a pain. Not like they disliked easy to complete tasks, on the contrary, they usually preferred them and Levi who was known for finishing his jobs faster than anyone else usually wouldn't complain either.
No, the problem resided in them, not the targets. In their inability to stay with one another without ticking the other off for even a second. Had it been a regular mission, both guardians would be back to headquarter already.
But as it turned out two officers were needed to complete the task, it wasn't their usual routine. Their ride back to Italy and the Varia was arranged already, by their Boss (well, most probably the unit in charge of special transport).
Who were they to refuse a ride from their Boss? Anyway, even if the idea of going back without waiting crossed Koro's mind, upon seeing his counterpart's accusing look, he scratched the idea.
So here they had been, in the middle of nowhere bored out of their minds, waiting for their ride that would arrive the next day in the late afternoon.
Without noticing it, they went to a bar, in which Koro defied the lightning to a drinking competition to kill time, and now here they were. Drunk, smelly, slurring, and somehow bonding over their mutual frustrations.
Life sure was full of mysteries.
Though, as the night went on and the sun began to rise, Leviathan whose mind had gradually cleared up had to wonder. Who was it specifically that Yucca was referring to.
His eyes settled on the unusually defenseless figure of the cloud guardian, and he sighed. Asking the barman for cold water and a cup of strong coffee, he rubbed his aching head.
Whatever the man surely was sputtering nonsense at some point he concluded as he felt the cold liquid flow into his parched throat. Though, he would have to keep this Kunigigaoka school in the back of his mind. His eyes narrowed, right. If the cloud mentioned it, it probably meant it was relevant. To what though, he didn't know yet.

"What'cha doing Yucca-chan?" Lussuria chirped as he ate his pink macaron, something he brought from his last mission to France. The green's eyes settled on the younger's computer screen, he hummed questioningly.
"Looking for an Italian Junior High?" He added with a small tilt of his head, eyes narrowed thoughtfully behind his shades.
"Yeah, for Ran-chan. Since he knows my job now," and I know his.
The sun guardian nodded, although he didn't have any siblings he supposed the white's way of thinking seemed understandable. Right, the right analogy would be the need to keep your pet close to you in case anything happened. He nodded to himself, mentally patting his shoulder for his brilliant metaphor.
"Since school's year's coming to an end I was thinking about having him transferred. You know, closer so that I can keep an eye on him," he explained as he heaved a sigh, his expression a mix of affection and resignation.
As he listened to the purple-eyed guardian's complaints, Lussuria chuckled. He beamed. "Well, have you decided on a junior high yet—"
"Didn't you want to check out a Japanese Junior High?" Leviathan interrupted from his seat which stood on the cloud's left.
Blinking at the unexpected interruption, Koro smiled, his eyes narrowing it mild nostalgia as he hummed. Lussuria's small pout at the interruption blended into surprise before his lips curled up. Oho? When did those two begin to civilly communicate?
"Kunugigaoka, right?" The lightning added as he sipped on his drink, disregarding the insistent gaze coming from the sun. He could feel the pride overflowing from him, and it made him want to scorn at the green. He refrained himself.
"Yeah," the sound of the keyboard clicking under the white's fingers sounded for a few seconds before he paused. "But my file's not ready yet," he said with a chuckle.
The raven grunted. "A year mission," he muttered as his eyes narrowed in understanding.
Both the sun and storm guardians' eyes went from the cloud to the lightning in bewilderment. When did those two get close enough to speak without sending some snarky remarks to one another?
The world sure was full of wonders.
I need to say, the next chapter will be the last. It's an Epilogue and the main focus will be on one of Assassination Classroom's important character!
Thank you for reading up 'til there, until next time^^
