4. Meeting The Varia

{Varia headquarter, Italy}

Yucca stood in front of a gigantic castle-like mansion, forest surrounded him, as Iemitsu's car made its way out of the estate. The man couldn't accompany him inside as he had received an urgent call from one of his subordinates, in the end, the two bid their farewell in front of the car before Iemitsu left.

The majestic building stood proudly as Yucca carefully observed it, on his way there he had seen many traps and a few cameras to prevent or stop any invasions. It didn't surprise him when he found out defense mechanisms outside of the walls, although he had to wonder if they were loaded or not after the Varia's failed coup attempt.

Making his way to the entrance, he wondered how he would get in. Iemitsu wasn't here, and he didn't have any key or knew any password to unlock the door. Knocking would unquestionably be followed with a failure, the Varia didn't care about him, and he was all but welcomed in their house.

Taking a deep breath, his gaze, swept the entrance as he looked for holes in their defense system. He could force the gate open or climb above the walls, worst case scenario his fantastic intuition or visions would save his ass. Thinking about it, maybe letting him force his way into their hideout was a test to see if he was worth their time.

Shrugging it off, Yucca took a step back to observe the structure once more. His phone now in hand, he leaned against the wall and unlocked it, his gaze flickered for an instant to his right where the forest was before he gave his business smile and went back to tipping on his phone. He knew the Varia observed him since he came into their territory, it wouldn't hurt to show them a glimpse of his ability.

His phone now linked to the global network, Yucca casually hacked into one of Earth's many satellites to get a better understanding of his geographic situation. Downloading it (the map), he erased any trace of his passage and researches before taking a closer look at his newly acquired map. The castle was surrounded by hectares of forest far from any city and overlooked the whole territory in an intimidating manner.

Yucca's eyes imperceptibly widened as he whistled in amazement, this estate was the real deal.

Getting back to business, Yucca this time hacked into the Varia's security system. If he couldn't open the door, why not break it? As he took firewalls down one after the other, he suddenly came to a halt, his smooth progress, was hindered by someone and his action which should have ended in a matter of seconds now started to take more time.

He didn't know who was behind the computer, facing him, but Yucca couldn't help the small smirk when faced with a new challenge. Stepping up his game a bit, he was pleased to see his opponent not falter but counter-attack with as much vigor if not more than before.

Things were getting interesting.

Lines of code flashed on his phone's screen as he tried to keep up with his unknown challenger. To be honest, hacking via his phone wasn't the best, but Yucca thought it gave him a nice handicap with his otherworldly experience and didn't dwell on it. As he was the God of Death in his past life, the phone would only slow his progress, not stop it.

His fingers slowed down, still hovering over the keyboard as his fellow hacker gradually cornered him. Yucca couldn't help the predatory glint in his eyes as his fingers' pace suddenly went up. Bringing up his A-game, it took him less than a minute to completely turn the tide in his favor. Clicking on the enter button one last time, he successfully took control of the Varia's security system and installed a few firewalls, he, had prepared beforehand (in case of these type of situation), to prevent his fellow hacker from hindering him later.

Satisfied a smug smile adorned his face, something he kept from his past life, except the green and yellow stripes weren't present anymore. Very pleased with himself, he hummed some random tunes, his tone-deafness getting exposed to all who listened.

::

In one of the Varia's, headquarter's many rooms on a reclining chair, sat a young teen with blond hair covering his eyes.

"Ara ara," said a cheery voice behind him, "looks like mister handsome defeated you, Bell, how sad," he exclaimed in Schaden Freunde bringing a hand to his mouth to contain his laughter.

"You owe me." stated a petite figure, hidden behind a purple cloak as he addressed the extravagant male.

"Ushishishi," a strange laugh came from the teen. "this prince didn't lose." he refuted with a wide smile. "This prince was bored so he, let him win, don't get ahead of yourself Luss." looking back at the monitor his smile faltered a bit at the smug look the raven-head was displaying. "Kaching," he said annoyed, making the older green-haired male laugh.

::

Yucca unlocked the door, calmly making his way into the estate, he didn't let his guard down as he observed the lavishly decorated interior. Crimson carpet covered the stone floor as elegant candelabras illuminated the entrance. Intimidating paintings adorned all four walls, each, represented some battle scenes.

Yucca had never seen the people present on these canvases before, but he presumed them to be some significant figures to the organization. Some faces were familiar though, and on a closer look, he recognized some of the names displayed on the golden plates below them: "Sword emperor, Superbi Squalo," "Prince the Ripper, Belphegor"... These people were the one involved in the infamous "Cradle Affair."

Looking closely at each picture, Yucca couldn't help but feel observed, he hadn't noticed any cameras, so, was this place haunted? Shaking his head dismissively, he chased these thoughts, "occultism doesn't exist, it doesn't exist..." he chanted in a small voice, mentally brandishing some exorcism tool to fend for himself. Koro was a really, superstitious person.

Suddenly, "Voiiiii!" a shout. The hell?! Is this place, really haunted? Turning around in a semi-robotic manner to face the noise, Yucca discovered, a long-silver-haired man brandishing a sharp long-sword. He was charging in his direction.

Yucca didn't know whether to feel relieved because it wasn't the work of some evil spirit, or depressed because he was, indeed not welcomed.

::

Now sitting in the headquarter's living room with most of the Varia's leading member, Yucca fearlessly and formally introduced himself. What was there to be scared off when you were, literally greeted with a sword at your throat upon meeting someone for the first time?

Looking at each present member, Yucca straightened himself, his perfect business smile in place "I'm Yucca, you probably guessed already, but Iemitsu-san was the one to recommend me for this job." at the mention of the Vongola Consigliere, some of the Varia's eyes narrowed in disgust and displeasure. Unfazed, Yucca continued. "You don't like me, and I don't think my impression of you is the best either. Therefore, let's not hinder each others' work in the future." he declared his tone getting flat at the end, getting straight to the point.

Why should he be polite? It didn't matter, what he said, instead of faking politeness, he should give them a valid reason to hate him. Kind of like when he gave his former student a legitimate reason to kill him. Now, as to whether or not they get along later, it was a problem for the future him.

His statement, as he expected, received various reactions. from the extremely loud "Voiiii, trash, don't get ahead of yourself!" of Squalo to the impassive Levi who grunted and sent a glare in his direction, Yucca could practically guess each, and every one of their main character traits: noisy, lazy, chatty...

Anyway, Yucca was, given a job. None of their remarks would disturb him, listening to their insult laced complaints, Yucca remained impassive and instead followed one of the few maids to his sleeping quarter.

From here on, it didn't matter where he was or what he did, at every corner a new trap waited for him. Poison, dangerous coincidences and whatnot became part of his daily life. Koro couldn't help but feel nostalgic at the regular assassination attempts. It brought back some fun, embarrassing and nostalgic memories from his past life as Koro-sensei.

::

Two weeks later, in the Varia's main conference room, all of the Varia officers (sans Yucca) and their vice commander were reunited around a table. Their topic? How to get rid of the annoying pest which had settled in their home not so long ago.

Said male was currently in his room, tipping on his computer to make his many covers more "consistent" and "believable."

Back to the Varia, they were currently arguing. Should they switch to more "upfront" tactics?

All poisoning attempt had failed, every time Yucca was going to consume poison he restrained himself in the nick of time and dumped it in the trash. Whatsmore, he also, always miraculously escaped Bel's knives or Squalo's sword.

Now, sending a foreign hitman was out of the question too, the Varia was too prideful to let an outsider solve their problem. Plus, if it was, THAT simple, they would have, done it themselves long ago. To add salt to injury, their traps, were now all completely useless.

They didn't know if Yucca was skilled, extremely lucky or had a very developed intuition. All they knew, was that he was a pain.

As a result, they were getting restless and Yucca's smug look every time he evaded one of their assassination attempts didn't make it better.

"Voiiii," Squalo suddenly shouted, "I'm going to kick this scum's ass!" he stood up from his chair abruptly, making it fall and causing the table to tremble in the process.

Mamon tched, his pile of money had crumbled because of the table's vibration. His accounting work was, now reduced to nothing. His sour mood provoked Bell's laugh who sat next to him and was observing the situation, playing with one of his many knives.

"Now now," Lussuria coaxed, to no avail. "calm down Squalo-chan," he said, earning a snicker from their youngest member.

Squalo turned to glare at him, "Voi, what are you talking about, you piece of trash!" he fumed. "I am always calm!"

Lussuria gave his usual smile, ignoring both the insult and the remark before continuing, "Now listen Squalo-chan. He has skills," he started. "imagine it, if, he was to join our cause our firepower would go up significantly." he calmly stated, "Right Mamon-chan?"

Mamon who was silently listening and counting his money came to a halt. Lifting his head, he looked at Lussuria who was seated in front of him. Taking a moment to gather his thoughts, he spoke up. "Lussuria's right," he answered in a flat tone "I'm sure he has a lot of resources too."

Squalo scoffed, "The baby only cares about money." he grumbled irritated.

"Come on Squalo-chan," Lussuria whined, "he's a great asset, you can't deny it. Surviving for two weeks with us lurking around isn't easily done." he complained crossing his arms. "What's more," he leaned on the table, his voice suddenly delighted, "imagine the Vongola's reaction." he licked his upper lip. "Just how mortified would they be, handing us an asset, a powerful one, without knowing it." he shuddered. "Ah, I can't wait to see their faces when they realize they were, backstabbed." he squealed.

Squalo observed his effeminate companion for a while, weighing his suggestion. It was pretty appealing and, worst case scenario, their boss could always get rid of the trash. Suddenly determined, Squalo grinned and turned to his fellow assassin, "Voiii, let's make him temporarily join the Varia!" he exclaimed.

Yeah, couldn't have him become a permanent member without the boss' seal of approval.

His announcement was met with mild excitement by the Varia, Lussuria was visibly delighted, Belphegor laughed creepily, Mamon interrupted his money counting momentarily before resuming his previous activity, completely unconcerned, and Leviathan grunted neither happy nor unhappy, he was always hard to read when the matter didn't concern their boss anyway.

"Voiiii!" Squalo shouted, irritated by his teammates' passiveness. "Get to work scums!" he ordered, slamming his only fist on the table and making it vibrate once more.

On this positive note, the Varia's "emergency" meeting ended.

In his room, Yucca sneezed, he had just gotten out of the shower, a white towel around his waist and another one in his hand to dry his hair, he wondered if he was getting sick.

You may have guessed already, but Yucca/ Koro will join the Varia. Therefore, the Canon storyline will most probably start from the Varia arc.

I apologize to those who had hoped to read about the daily like or Kokuyo land arc, but I thought it would be strange for Yucca to be present with how things were turning.

Thanks for reading, until next time.
