39. Relationship Update
{Namimori, Japan}
Letting himself fall on the mattress, the cloud, gradually sank in the cover, a tired sigh escaping his lips. Such a tiring day, the encounter with the storm Arcobaleno Fon, their improvised and unplanned duel combined with Ran's unexpected text had been enough to send the guardian's mind into a turmoil.
He knew all the Arcobaleno held a grudge against him, some being bigger than others, but he hadn't expected Fon, who seemed to be one of the calmest, to go for the kill as soon as they met if the Storm had been so quick to jump into a fight, then what about the other Arcobalenos? From the little intel he had managed to gain on each one of them, the best fighters were Reborn, the sun, Fon, the storm, and Colonnello, the rain.
Not that the others weren't threat, they only wouldn't go for hand to hand matches which reduced the chance of a possible fight. For instance, Viper, the mist who currently went by Mammon was on his team. Therefore the probability of them fighting, for the time being, was nonexistent.
Concerning Skull, the cloud, he didn't seem like the type who fought. Although if he did, from what Luss told him about their previous encounter, it wouldn't be easy. The Arcobaleno was known to be immortal, it wasn't something to ignore. The advantage was that out of the seven he seemed to reek of cowardice, then again, better not judge a book by its cover.
Their leader Yuni, the sky, wasn't the fighting type at all, she most probably didn't hold grudges either and would instead gladly take an apologie before burying the past scuffle. She was this kind of person, and unlike the other Arcobaleno which he hadn't met in his memories, he knew Yuni. The girl cared about peace too much to herself cause a fight if she could keep the peace.
The most dangerous was Verde, the lightning, the most tangible proof being the number of fighters his team eliminated during the first round. Although the man wasn't a fighter himself, the people who surrounded him and his inventions made up for it without any trouble. He was someone Yucca couldn't allow himself to underestimate. Probably the one to look out for the most out of the four mentioned Arcobalenos.
Now, out of those who could fight, he had met Fon. Fon who had, oh so gently, demanded a duel. It was clear the martial artist was confident in his capacity to beat the cloud and by the way their fight ended he should be more than sure of himself now. Although Yucca was sure, the martial artist wouldn't come to him looking for a fight. Their battle would resume, only if they happened to cross one another during the time limit.
Reborn was the second Arcobaleno Yucca knew best, Mammon being the first. The hitman, known as the best in the world, was someone Yucca respected more than he thought he did. He looked up to him, as a hitman for his spectacular skills in the art, and as a teacher for his dedication to his students. He wished he was as devoted to them as the sun was to the future Don. The white shook his head. Reborn was someone who sent Yucca's blood as an assassin boiling. But he knew better, mindlessly challenging the Arcobaleno would lead to his demise, he wasn't strong enough to beat him or Fon, not yet at least.
Then there was Colonnello, the rain, an ex-military agent whose marksmanship and hand to hand combat prowess weren't to be underestimated. From Yucca's point of view, he was the most well-balanced fighter out of the three. Fon focused solely on martial arts, and although Reborn knew hand to hand fighting it was clear he favored guns more. Therefore, from an objective point of view, Fon was the most dangerous, closely followed by Colonnello, with Reborn coming last.
Yucca heaved a sigh, the prognostic didn't seem wrong, but the number of variables he didn't take into account when doing it made his previsions thinking useless. Except a fact or two which were reliable enough to trust even with all these variables, the others were as good as trash.
Rolling himself in his duvet Yucca's hand went to grab his phone, his fingers absentmindedly moving until he found himself face to face with his chat log. His half-opened purple eyes paused on the name, succinctly going over every sent and received texts. At last, they halted on the last one.
It was an answer from himself to his brother, a short message. A one-word text to be precise: "Sure."
Reading it over and over again a frown came to adorn his face. It seemed much curter and devoid of warmness than when he sent it a few hours ago. A sense of disappointment filled himself at the realization. He couldn't take care of his brother, how could he pretend to care about 3-E then?
A deprecative chuckle escaped his lips, a wry smile adorning his face. Perhaps, he should send him another text, call him even. Unsure, his fingers hovered over the tactical keyboard tapping and deleting words for a few seconds until he turned his phone off. Another sigh escaped his lips as his free hand went to ruffle his white locks.
Tomorrow, yeah he would text him tomo-
Bzz Bzz
He jumped, startled by his phone's sudden buzzing. Taking a glance at his telephone's screen Yucca paused, speaking of the devil. Quickly unlocking it, he hurried to his received messages as if the fate of his and Ran's relationship rested on this precise text he had received. Inhaling to calm his pounding heart and stop his hands from shaking too much in anticipation, he started reading the message.
From: Boss
To: Gluttony
Great! Then let's meet up tomorrow O(≧▽≦)O
Don't want to trouble you at work, would you mind coming to me? (#^.^#)
I'll send you the address. ( ^∇^)
I'm so blessed Yucca thought, a wide grin on his face as he dumbly stared at the text message. His hand went to cover his eyes as if hiding his view would make his simple-minded expression disappear. A red hue slowly crawled up his usual poker face as embarrassment invaded him.
Soon, another buzzing sound came from his phone, signaling the arrival of Ran's second message. Not bothering to look at it, Yucca chuckled. Truly blessed.

Phone in hand, Yucca strolled down Namimori streets. The address Ran sent him was more than half an hour away from his hotel, but the white head didn't mind it. Walking meant no motion sickness and no motion sickness meant happiness. With these thoughts, the guardian had departed in the early morning, calling the school to tell them he needed the day off he had started his walk to the residence Byakuran stayed at.
Although he hadn't told the other officer what his plans for the day were, Yucca deemed it useless as he wouldn't have taken their thoughts into account. He was free of doing whatever he wanted so long as it didn't affect the group and mission, at the moment Mammon's request. He doubted his help would be needed anyway, the Varia were old enough to take care of themselves without him. The worst that could happen would be Xanxus' battle watch being destroyed. Yucca scoffed at the thought, right, as if he would let that happen. The only way for the Boss to lose his watch would be for him to destroy it himself.
Yucca's thought came to a halt as his last thinking came back to his mind, repeating itself like a broken cassette. The only way for the Boss to lose his watch would be for him to destroy it himself. A chuckle, a blend of discomfort and denial escaped the white's lips as he shook his head briefly his bangs swaying from right to left. "Right, as if that would ever happen," he muttered. Although, the skepticism veiling his voice wasn't something he could hide, even from himself.
Taking a breath his left ungloved hand brushed through his fluffy bangs. Why did he have to think of them even when they weren't by his side? The answer had yet to come to his mind when his danger radar spiked up. Not thinking about his action, the cloud took a swift step to the right, his left wrist flicking slightly to let the hidden dagger's blade reach the palm of his hand.
His eyes, which previously didn't really register his surrounding suddenly sharpened, a dangerous glint flashing through his purple irises as he positioned himself behind his attacker. The dagger now in hand, he swiftly placed it near the other's neck in a threatening manner.
As the cloud of dust, created from the impact of the other's fall, started to fade, a familiar figure along with a familiar voice came into view. "You're sooo mean, Yucca-nii-chan!" the voice whined before coughing, most probably fro the dirt they inhaled. "And I was so happy to see you too!"
Realizing his mistake Yucca's purple eyes widened, his dagger retreating into his sleeve as quickly as it erupted before he crouched down next to the younger male. His hands, as if on instinct started to check the younger for any scratch or injury. "I didn't mean to," his voice before he knew it came out in a whisper as his eyes veiled themselves with worry and anguish he didn't know he had. "Ah, what if you broke a bone, are you bleeding, does it hurt anywhere?" Myriad of questions erupted from Yucca's lips as his hands continued to roam all over Ran's body, not caring about the place or time.

"I apologize for Byakuran's behavior, Yucca," Yuni said with a smile as she gave the cloud a small bow. "I didn't expect for him to run out as soon as he felt your flame in the mansion's ground," she added with a chuckle as her eyes paused on the said male's figure before she broke into a grin. "But I'm glad to see the two of you are getting along so well."
A strained laugh escaped Yucca's lips at the younger girl's words. "I'm at fault too, I shouldn't have dodged so... thoughtlessly," he explained before coughing and regaining some of his usual composure. "And I apologize too, for the shameful actions I displayed, I didn't think I would act this way upon realizing my mistake," he continued, his perfect business smile now in place as he took a sip of the tea he was served.
At the memory, another chuckle came from Yuni's lips. "It is alright, I am only glad to see that you and Byakuran made up. Having him pout and complain about you can be tiring, Yucca," she stated cheekily, a sly smile on her lips which caused Yucca to laugh in answer.
"Come on, Yuni-chan you promised not to tell," the tattooed male whined, making the two other skies laugh more. "Mou, you two are so mean," he added, squeezing his brother's side tighter as a sign of protest.
Listening to his brother's complaints and the sky Arcobaleno's few words, Yucca unnoticeably frowned. His bangs cleverly hid his pensive expression from the two preoccupied teens. He hadn't expected for his brother to be one of the sky Arcobaleno's representative. No, he had excluded the idea from the start after receiving his future visions, not considering the idea for a second and that was his mistake.
He was a primary example when it came to relationships being altered by future memories. His reinsertion within the Varia despite his future self's unclear position was enough proof to show how useless the visions came for solid reasons, they only helped one to speculate on possible outcomes and, as time went by, they became less and less reliable.
How many mistakes had he made already?
"Anyway, white suits you Yucca," Yuni announced, breaking the guardian's train of thoughts as he sent the young Arcobaleno a smile. "It brings out your purple eyes' luster and compliments your complexion well," she praised.
"Right! I knew white suited you the best," Byakuran announced proudly as his fingers took hold of some of the older's white hair strands. "Now we're the same!" He continued happily.
Yucca merely smiled, his thoughts conflicted. Was it really okay for the two of them to speak so casually after their last talk?
The opportunity to ask slipped away from his fingers as the doorbell rang. Were they waiting for someone else?
Small break into the Curse Arc, next chapter will be back with some action!
