35. Mammon's Request
{Varia headquarter, Italy}
Lazying about in the living room, five of the Varia's current guardians spent their afternoon. Some snacks and drinks laid on the table as the members either chatted with one another or minded their business.
Koro, for once wasn't part of their usual banter and instead spent his time in the corner of the room, sitting on one of the quilted chairs his laptop in hand. Next to him was a cup of fuming earl gray and some "papet," a traditional cake from the Jura he'd brought back. It had a mild orange blossom taste to it that the cloud found himself strangely fond of.
Blocking his comrades out, Yucca silently typed on his keyboard as lines of code started to appear and disappear in a continuous and unstoppable manner. Currently trying to hack into the government's database, Koro's entire focus was on his screen. So far everything was alright. He hadn't been spotted and had almost finished imprinting himself into the system. Clicking on the enter key one last time, he observed as the speed of the lines slowed down until only one remained to confirm his success.
Information on his, or to be precise this dimension's Koro's identity was successfully retrieved. Files belonging to Yanagisawa's experiments were downloaded along with some of the directives the governments had adopted to counter their incoming destruction.
Not sweating at the feat he had accomplished, Koro praised his past life as the God of Death for its versatility and the current one for its capacity to always strive to become better. His hand calmly extended to his teacup as his usually gloved fingers came into contact with the hot ceramic. Not minding it, he took a sip. He would study these documents later, once everything had calmed down and his mind was clearer.
His eyes roamed the vast library the Varia considered their living room before he ushered one of the standing butlers, or agents charged of housekeeping, to come closer. Putting his cup down he typed a few more things, before shutting his computer down and putting it in its case. "Bring it back to my room," he ordered calmly, as he locked the case. "Put in on my desk," he paused as he handed it to the silent servant. "Don't touch anything else."
The butler bowed, taking the case under his arm. "As you wish, Yucca-sama," straightening once again, his glasses glinted as his brown eyes flickered to the cloud's almost empty cup. "Shall I bring you some tea too, Yucca-sama?"
Koro whose line of sight had gone to the book he previously had on his table, flickered his eyes to his drink before humming in agreement. "Please do."
Bowing once more, the butler took his leave.
Leaning into his seat, Koro took one last sip of his tea as his purple eyes started to scan the library he was in. Ebony bookshelves made up the room's walls as his eyes wandered from book to book. Red, black, dark blue and green covers were neatly organized, giving the library a calming feeling. At last, his gaze settled on his colleagues.
Bel was sending Squalo some spikes as usual, while Lussuria laughed and tried to calm them down from the sidelines. Leviathan seemed quiet, immersed in his own thoughts as he stared into nothingness, cleverly ignoring the banter around him and most probably thinking of their Boss or a way to please him. Then, Mammon was-
Yucca blinked, once, twice, where was Mammon? Now that he thought about it, he had yet to meet the mist Arcobaleno today. Although he did catch sight of their violet cape, the guardian disappeared just as fast as he saw them.
Maybe he had some business he needed to deal with, Koro mused. The refreshing scent of bergamot hit his nose as he was pulled out of his contemplations. His purple eyes which he had unknowingly narrowed softened a bit in pleasure as he took hold of the freshly made cup of tea. Giving a low hum in approval, he didn't acknowledge the butler as he put the hot teapot down on the table before leaving. Yucca's right free hand took his book as he started to immerse himself in it.

The next day.
"Ushishi, so the baby wants our help?" Belphegor mused, a grin on his face as he stared down at Mammon's small figure. He chuckled. "Come, baby, I didn't hear you beg this prince yet, shishi."
Mammon didn't spare the blond a glance, instead, turning to face their Boss before bowing in gratitude once last time. Earning a low grunt from the scarred male, Mammon turned to face the other guardians, ignoring Bel who stood on the far right of the group.
"It is possible for me to have my original body back," Mammon began, making Koro think back on the time they both spent in his mindscape. At the time, the mist was in their adult form. They were quite cute, he remembered. Noticing their colleagues attention on them, Mammon resumed. "I would like you to fight for me," he asked, bowing before squeaking out a low, almost unnoticeable "please."

{Namimori, Japan}
Walking down Namimori's crowded streets, the white head allowed himself to adopt a more relaxed demeanor. Hands stuffed in his trench's pocket, he trailed a bit behind the group as his purple eyes went from stall to stall, passerby to passerby and even cloud to cloud.
Life, every time he came to Namimori seemed really peaceful and chaotic at the same time. The town and its people were rather calm, not eventful at all, while Tsunayoshi and his group seemed to attract every possible trouble life had to offer. It was intriguing to Koro as it greatly reminded him of Kunugigaoka's or more precisely his class' situation.
The place they were at was average if you excluded the hierarchical system they adopted and nothing too out of the ordinary, in Koro's dictionary, usually happened. In this case, the trouble magnet wasn't one person, like Tsunayoshi seemed to be, but a whole class with himself being the most important one. They would always find a way to add some spice to their lives, although the ex-teacher had to wonder whether or not his students liked the flavor he gave to their lives. A chuckle escaped his lips, at least he did.
As Yucca tried to memorize and link every person he passed by to his current and soon to be databases, his violet eyes came to a halt on a lying male. The man, who wore a khaki coat had curly blond hair and seemed to be looking at them too.
Purple eyes narrowed. Although he knew the Varia had this aura which made them noticeable and recognizable in specific cases, it was rude to stare. He mentally cleared his throat, not like he could talk, ogling every women's breasts he came across as Koro-sensei, the thought today made his body want to puke while his mind loved to relish in the memory. Such a dilemma he had to face every day he passed a huge rack!
Searching his memories, for any potential blond he may know the existence off, he met with brown eyes and a remarkably ridiculously serious face. The expression didn't fit the situation. Catching a glimpse of men in suits in the crowd who seemed to be looking for somebody, Koro smirked. His conjecture was right. Purple met brown as the lying male's eyes widened slightly, not expecting the eye contact. The cloud simply grinned his way through, nodding his head in slight acknowledgment before going back to his observation session.
Although, Dino wasn't from Japan. Yucca smirked, an amused chuckle escaping his lips as his eyes narrowed in excitement. He couldn't wait for the Bucking Horse to meet them again. After all, the number of hotels befitting of someone high up in the mafia within Namimori was scarce.

Entering the large hotel hall Koro's eyes searched for traces of his comrades. He had lost them while lost in thoughts within Namimori's shopping district. The desire to go to that shop he bought the ridiculous shirt from was just too strong. He couldn't resist. He couldn't help but want to relish once more in his memories of her.
Now in the hall, the white walked up to the receptionist before asking for directions. It didn't take long for him to be redirected to their suite, the "super suite," their group was easy to spot and hard to mistake.
Not bothering to knock, Koro directly used the master key the hotel owner had given him earlier. He didn't question the matter, guessing the Varia had pulled some strings for all of its members to receive one, and gladly accepted it when it was handed to him.
"Ah, Yucca-chan there you are!" Lussuria chirped, his head peeking out of his room as he finished to put his things in order. Koro hummed, sending the male a wave as he took hold of his laying bag and went to the only unoccupied room. Well, he didn't have to look long, the suite was the same as when they came the first time, a few months ago to kill Sawada Tusnayoshi and his friends, how nostalgic. He guessed his bedroom wouldn't have changed either.
Gently tossing his suitcase on the red bed sheets, Koro took a glance at its lock, checking if someone had tried to force it. Satisfied with his observation, he started to hum some random tunes, having prior closed the door as not to annoy the others or have them on his back for his supposed tone-deafness, Yucca began to put his clothes away.
Finished with the clothes, he took his toilet bag out before coming face to face with a deep purple colored box. Engraved with a silver lining, on top of it was the Varia's insignia, topped with a small orange cloud, made out of lead or something of the like he deduced.
Having finished, the assassin went to open the purple box. Sitting on his bed and having it laid on his lap, he carefully unlocked it before pulling the lid open. Inside was a velvety kind of quilted cushion with two neatly placed rings. The two rings formed a combination, each having a tear-drop embedded gem on top of them.
The first one with a silver ring had a beautiful violet gemstone, the ring was engraved with a woman's name it seemed as tentacles like designs intertwined themselves with it. The second one, probably made out of some types of lead had an orange gem on it. Again, names were engraved on the ring, two which intertwined intricately. No designs whatsoever were added, leaving only the two displayed name aesthetically.
A small nostalgic smile went to Koro's mind as he remembered his vision of the future. Gently caressing the gem's one by one he swore he almost heard a childish "boo," followed by a high pitched "ky," and low meowing. He chuckled, slipping the two rings over his left gloved hand, the rings specially crafted to be put above the leather fabric.
Satisfied, he stood up. He could hear from his room how commotion had started to build up in the suite's small living room.

Seeing Tsunayoshi and Dino's flabbergaster faces, Yucca, like Bel and Luss couldn't help but let a small chuckle escape his lips. Of course, their Boss wouldn't agree to a possible alliance. One because it wasn't in the Varia's gene to team up with others, two because teaming up with someone you want to kill never was part of their agenda, three they only wanted to beat the hell out of every single member.
"Shishi, as expected of the Boss," Belphegor whispered, sending mocking glances at Reborn's representatives.
Lussuria whose laugh had died down waved his hand. "Right, the exit is this way," he indicated. "If you'll please," he asked, head tilted as his voice tinted itself with fake courtesy.
Koro's smile turned a bit wider at his closest fellow guardians' comments. Those two are always way too much, he thought, mentally laughing.
Minutes later, Reborn's representatives were out of the room. His eyes lingered on the door for a few more seconds before flickering to Mammon's cloaked figure who stood in front of the case Yonomichi, the battle's planner it seemed, gave them after explaining the rules.
Mammon's face turned to the members as he handed them each one of the watches. The Boss watch, going to Xanxus of course. Gladly accepting the bracelet, Yucca attached it to his right wrist, opposing his ring where his usual watch (when he wore one) was.
"Thanks, Mammon-chan!" he chirped, ruffling the mist's hood before his hand was swatted away by the smaller guardian. Walking back to his room, the guardian paused in his doorway for a moment, humming in thought before swirling around. The abrupt move, catching the always alert members.
"Boss," he called out, earning a grunt from the man. "Shall I become a teacher again?" he asked, an excited grin on his face as he thought back on his first time in Namimori.
Xanxus' eye cracked open, no sound emanating from him as he thought on his guardian's suggestion. A smirk came to his lips as his now two opened eyes unwaveringly stared the cloud. "Right, give the scums a foretaste of what Varia quality feels like."
Yucca grinned, even without his Boss' consent, he would do it.
And the last arc begins!
Thanks for reading, until next time^^
