31. Inheritance Ceremony
{Varia headquarter, Italy}
Xaxnus stared at his guardians silently, the frown never leaving his face as his hand twitched, eager to take hold of his gun. At last, he broke the silence. "What are you scums doing," he demanded.
Lussuria was the first one to answer, "We are getting ready for the inheritance ceremony Boss, did you forget?" he wondered with a tilt of his head. "Sawada Tsunayoshi will receive the sin tomorrow-" his speech was interrupted by the sound of his screeching. "Don't shot me, Boss!" He whined.
Xanxus blinked, ignoring his sun's complaints, he turned to face the remaining guardians. "Go on," he ordered, waiting for one of them to continue were Lussuria left.
Clearing his throat, Leviathan took a step forward. "You received an invitation a week ago Boss, you told me to discard it."
Xanxus hummed, muttering a curt "I see," he turned around, making his way out of the room. Pausing, he turned his head in his guardians' direction. His stern gaze swept over every one of them before becoming more severe. "You better not embarrass the Varia, scums," he snarled.
The door slammed closed.

{Inheritance ceremony, Japan}
"Ushishi, I was convinced the Boss wouldn't let you come with us, Yu," Belphegor cackled. "I hoped you and the baby would be excused, wouldn't have had to see your faces, shishi!"
Koro gave the storm a wry smile, chuckling. "I love you too Bel," he shot back, before tilting his head to the left, evading one of Bel's knives.
"Shishi, don't get full of yourself Yu," Bel muttered his tone a bit lower than usual.
Koro hummed, "Sure," he answered dismissively before turning to face the mist guardian.
As the sleek limousine came to a halt, so did the Varia's chatter. "Squalo-sama," the chauffeur called out to the vice commander who had been chosen as the official nanny for their little excursion, for better or for worse. "We have arrived."
Squalo huffed. "Voii trashes, we're getting down!" He announced, stepping out of the black car as one of the butlers opened the door for him.
"Whoah! So many people!" Koro exclaimed as he stepped out of the limousine, his eyes roaming the crowded venue as he tried to locate the buffet.
Walking in front of his comrades, Squalo stopped, making the following members halt and stare at him skeptically. Squalo cleared his throat before taking a deep breath. He shouted.
"Voiiiiiiiiiiiii!"
All of the mafia men gathered turned to look at them. This was an entry they could proclaim as Varia quality, they all thought with a nod. Mammon who stood on top of Bel's head wondered once more how they came to be with a group made up of so many idiots. They sighed in defeat. It was too late to regret.
"It's been a while, you scums," Squalo greeted above all the chatter and gossip about the Varia and their arrival. Koro who stood behind could only admire how cool Squalo seemed while insulting the soon to be Decimo, his guardians and the Cavalonne's current boss.
He nodded, Varia quality of course.
Glancing around, Koro allowed himself to escape from all these stuffy greetings he was about to get in while remaining by his vice commander's side. Maybe he should take a look at the buffet while everyone was focused on his comrades.
Casually walking to the buffet, Yucca intercepted one of the waiters, taking a flute of champaign he made his way closer to the food. He was finally going to honor his memory as Koro-sensei. Never would he forget these times where he subsisted with tissue karage, he went so far since then. Koro couldn't help but feel move at the progress.
Taking a bite of one of the canapes, the white head's fake business smile melted into a genuinely satisfied expression. The way the cream and salmon married each other, allied with the crunchiness of the toast and slight bitterness of the caviar was a delicacy to the cloud's taste buds. Humming in delight, he took another one.
It seemed nobody would take them away from him. Strangely enough, the people had changed tables once he arrived. Not like he cared, it only meant more free food for him. Quality food, what's more. He never felt so glad to be part of the Varia.
"I see you are enjoying yourself, Yucca," A squeaky voice stated.
"Yeah, I'm so glad Mammon-chan isn't mad at me anymore," Yucca answered with a pleased sigh before stopping and turning to face the voice's owner. "Ah, Reborn!" He exclaimed in mild surprise. Was he so engrossed in those delicious canapes he didn't notice the hitman arriving next to him? "I don't know who the cook is, but his canapes are excellent!" he praised, taking another one.
Reborn hummed, nodding his head, he stared at the now white-headed cloud. Trying to find, any similitude with the Yucca he encountered on his deathbed. Although he could see some similarities, nothing particularly flagrant stroke Reborn. He smiled, "I see, I'll be sure to pass the message." Although he would also keep a close eye on him.
Koro hummed, licking his lips he took a handkerchief out of his suit's pocket. "Thanks, Reborn," he put on his white gloves.
A flash went through Reborn's mind, he frowned. Yucca's action had overlapped with a raven head enacting the same movement. The raven head bore striking similarities to the white head in front of him, if not for the fact that he seemed older than the guardian in front of him, people could have said they were the same person. Not like they weren't, a few years and a dye don't transform anyone.
"Well then Reborn," the guardian called out facing the small hitman. "It was nice talking to you," waving at the sun Arcobaleno, Koro went inside of the crowd, not minding the stare the infamous hitman was giving him. At least it wasn't as cold as Mammon's glare when they received their future memories.
Wandering around of the other mafia members, the assassin swiftly evaded any contact with them. Observing them, he tried to memorize their statures, accents, ways of speech and link them to the file he currently had on either of them. What a great way to work and take pleasure at the same time he thought, mentally praising himself as he took another glass of champagne from one of the passing waiters.
His purple gaze ended up on settling on a young boy's face. An unknown face, he mused a bit curious. And here he thought he knew of every possible guest. Putting on his perfect business smile, Yucca expertly strode toward the boy's small group.
He was about to call ou to them when another mafia man beat him to it. Mentally pausing to see if he recognized the men as someone he should be wary of, Yucca scoffed. Right, who was more dangerous than the Varia here anyways.
Ignoring who the rude guy might be, Koro casually pushed him aside, crouching to help the redhead up. "Are you okay?" he asked with a smile, pulling the teen up. From behind him, he could hear the no-name fuming.
The redhead's expression seemed complicated, maybe anxious as his gaze flickered between Koro and the other man. Sighing, the cloud turned around before giving the man one of his 'working' grins. "Do you need anything?" he demanded, his tone showing his superiority.
The male was about to retort something when Yucca casually scratched his neck, making the chain he wore and the ring attached to it more visible. At the sight of the symbol the male faltered, clicking his tongue, he turned around. "That's what I thought," Koro whispered with a Cheshire smile.
Happy with his deed, Koro turned to face the teen. "A-ah, th-thanks. I guess," the boy muttered his voice getting smaller and smaller.
"Yucca."
The redhead snapped his head in the white head's direction, a sound of confusion leaving his lips at the unexpected answer.
Koro grinned at the seemingly innocent male, he could have been one of his students with this attitude he gushed. "My name's Yucca. I am part of the Varia, and you are?" He asked his voice surprisingly gentle as he affectionately gazed at the male. He couldn't help but see some of his old students in the male.
"E-enma," the redhead whispered. Perhaps his busty friend's hand on his back gave him some courage because he took a deep breath before resuming. "My name is Kozato Enma," he stated, making Koro's purple eyes unnoticeably narrow as he tried to remember a Kozato. "I am the Simon Family's tenth Boss," he announced with some confidence.
"Simon Family..." the white head whispered, a hand to his chin as he took in the whole group's appearance. His gaze stilling on the fedora-wearing male, Mukuro? He thought before chasing the idea away. It couldn't be him, he already was with the Vongola, although, Yucca had to wonder where this familiar macabre feeling was coming from if it wasn't Mukuro. Dropping the topic, he promised himself to look into it more once done.
"You don't know us, right?" The redhead now dubbed as Enma interrupted his reflection. The teen's voice seemed strangely pouty, and Yucca found himself softening his feature once more as he gazed at the smaller male. "Nobody does anyway," he whispered, his voice seemed to drip with hatred, but Koro didn't take note of it.
The cloud chuckled, his right hand instinctively ruffling the redhead's locks he brought his other had to cover his mouth. "Of course I do," he answered before pausing, taking in the bewildered and suspicious stares the Simon gave him before continuing. "Your Famiglia is old, I had to search my memory. Although I hadn't heard of them for a long time now," he muttered pensively. Seeing the dubious gaze he was receiving, Koro sighed. "You don't believe me do you, Enma-chan?"
Enma blinked, stuttering to find his words and a bit embarrassed at the nickname. It was his busty friend who stepped in, a fierce look on her face, she looked at Yucca defyingly. "Why should we believe you, is the most appropriate question," she retorted curtly.
Koro stared at her quizzically, his eyes flickering to Enma's figure who seemed to be trying to tame his friend. Adel, Koro mused, his smile back in place as he caught the lady's name or nickname, he didn't know, from their conversation. Well, she probably is Enma's guardian, he mused, so diligent.
"You're right, why should you?" He rhetorically answered with a grin before meeting her serious and resolute gaze. "And you are?"
'Adel' sent him an unimpressed look, having no intention to answer, she sighed before giving her name as she felt her Boss tugging on her sleeve once more. "I am Suzuki Adelheid," she stated firmly before sending him a challenging look. "So?"
Koro grinned. "Nice to meet you Adelheid," Enma sent him a quizzical look as she didn't receive any nickname from the male. Bringing his hand to his chin in a thinking posture Koro hummed. "A proof," he whispered. Closing his eyes, he let his mind wander to the time his future counterpart spent in the Millefiore base. He had read a report and some files stored in the archive about the Simon Famiglia, he only needed to remember one detail. "Ah, I know!" he exclaimed, his face going back to a smile as he faced the Simon delegation. "Your first Boss," the white head began. "Enma-chan's great-great-great, I don't' know how many great, grandfather. His name was Cozarto, right?" He said with a tilt of his head.
Adelheid's crimson eyes widened slightly before going back to their usual seriousness, she hadn't expected the white-headed clown to, really, know about them. He seemed important too, judging from the way the rude man treated him earlier. Did he also know about their plan? Cold sweat went down her spine at the thought. If they were busted before they got sin it was all over.
Enma nodded mutely, a genuine smile creeping up his face as he stared down at his hand. He felt strangely satisfied hearing someone knew about his Famiglia and wasn't looking down on them at least not openly.
Koro ruffled Enma's red locks, chuckling, "You're, so cute, Enma-chan!" He exclaimed before sighing in resignation. "Ran-chan should really learn to be cute like that, being bratty all the time is no good!" he whined to himself, ignoring their questioning look.
"The ceremony is going to begin!"
Hearing the announcement, Yucca snapped out of his dillydallying time, his grin turning less genuine as it morphed into his usual business smile. He nodded in the Simon delegation's direction, "I'll see you later," he waved before walking into the crowd, Squalo was going to kill him if he was later than them.
From where they stood, the Simon family looked at Yucca's departing figure with mixed feeling. Adel was the first one to snap out of it. "We should go."
Nodding the Simon delegation went to the venue. It was time to enact their plan, their revenge on the Vongola.
::
"Squalo is so going to kill me," Yucca muttered, striding toward the hall. On his way to the venue, his eyes had caught the buffet. No one was around, he couldn't let such an occasion pass. By the time he ended his snack, the ceremony had already begun.
Maybe if I make myself discreet, he won't spot me, he mused pensively.
The sound of glass shattering and the ground rumbling pulled the white head out of his reflexion. An attack?
Purple flashed through his already violet orbs before dimming as he hurried to the hall, his previously hidden daggers now in hand.
Creeping, near the entrance, his steps faltered at the sight of his blocked comrades. His gaze flickered to those they were glaring at.
Enma-chan? His purple eyes narrowed.
Why did all the people he at some point saw as little brother figures or students turned out to be either killers or thirsty for revenge? Couldn't they be... normal?
So, here comes the Inheritance Arc. It won't be long, Yucca/Koro doesn't have any major role in it since the Varia doesn't take part in the battles.
Thanks for reading, until next time^^
