27. Future Memories

{Varia headquarter, Italy}

Getting out of his room, Yucca started to sort out his visions. Well, memories from what Lussuria had said.

A calm expression on his face, the cloud guardian wore his usual business smile. Nodding and smiling at those he met in the corridor, he hid his inner reflection perfectly. Although, he could feel the air around him had shifted.

Maybe because it hadn't been so long since their failed coup, he didn't know. But even so, it didn't explain the vibe Lussuria, and Belphegor gave off in his presence.

It seemed distant, almost reproachful. The raven head didn't understand, but it felt like he had done them wrong and he didn't know how. His reflection on the matter came to a stop as he thought back on his visions.

Ah, it must be linked to that. He mused in understanding.

His footstep came to a halt in front of a grand mahogany door. Pausing, he stared at the door for a few seconds. Not making any movements, he let his eyes flicker from right to left, scanning his surrounding on reflex before gently knocking.

No answer. Knocking once gain, Yucca opened the door. "I'm coming in, Boss."

Bang.

Black hair swayed to the side as tilted his head to the right, his purple eyes flickering to the wall behind him where rested his Boss' bullet before resting on his Boss' figure. He smiled, nodding before greeting his Boss in his usual false courtesy.

Xanxus grunted, the fuming gun still in his hand, he let his hand rest on his armchair as the other held an almost empty glass of red wine.

Not uttering a single word, Yucca made his way inside the room. Passing behind his Boss' silent figure he took the already open red win bottle. "So, Boss," he started, breaking the silence as he served his Boss another glass of wine. "What did you want to talk to me about?"

Xanxus grunted, not answering directly, he brought the wine glass up to his lips. Inhaling the red liquid's fragrance, he leaned into his quilted seat before taking a sip of it. "Sit," he ordered, not taking his eyes off of the red liquid as it gently twirled inside of his wine glass.

Silently complying to his Boss' order, the guardian took a sit on the dark red couch facing his Boss. In the far corner of the room, he could see a maidservant waiting. With a slight wave of his hand, the girl who looked to be in her late teens early twenties started to move. Crouching down, she took a bottle of whiskey and served the cloud a glass before retreating once more in the shadow of the room.

None of the two males spoke, each one of them appreciating the alcohol in their hand. "Trash," Xanxus was the one to break the silence. "Do you know why I called you here?"

Yucca smiled, putting his glass down he leaned on his seat. "I think I do, Luss told me something about those 'memories,'" he air-quoted. "Well I honestly thought nothing of them, but judging from the measure you're taking Boss I guess I was wrong."

"Guess the trash was useful," Xanxus muttered, acknowledging his sun guardian's action. "It will make this shit quicker." He took another sip of his wine.

Yucca hummed. Leaning his head on his hand, he observed his Boss' ever-scowling face. Seeing his Boss' twitching ear, his humming stopped. Silence fell on the room, the only sound being the three Varia members' breathing.

"Do you plan on betraying me, trash?" Xanxus broke the silence. Maybe feeling as if it was her cue to excuse herself, the maidservant gave a small bow before exiting the room.

"I don't."

"Then, what about the Millefiore Famiglia?"

The raven head paused. His inner consciousnesses pondered the question as he answered on reflex. "I wouldn't."

The sound of Xanxus' glass shattering under the said male's grip echoed in the room. A second later, it was the sound of his gun that rezoned. "I didn't hear you trash, care to repeat?"

"I wouldn't," the purple-eyed male repeated firmly. His inner turmoil solved. "I wouldn't forsake the Varia, but I wouldn't betray the- Byakuran either." he paused, looking at his Boss whose grip on his gun had gotten tighter. Unmistakably, he was trying to refrain himself from shooting him once again.

"Part of me unmistakenly lies with Byakuran. He's my blood. But the relationship I have with him and the Varia are different," Yucca finished, feeling thankful that his Boss listened to him until the end.

A dry laugh escaped Xanxus' lips. "How so? From what I saw, your position wasn't clear in the future, trash."

Yucca took a sip of his whiskey, the sound of the ice cubes hitting the glass sounded. He passed his free hand through his raven locks, slightly ruffling them before putting his glass down.

"Well, I..."

::

"You know," Lussuria called out, twirling his spoon inside of his tea. "Don't you think we were a bit harsh with Yucca-chan?" He wondered aloud with a tilt of his head.

"Ushishishi, us? Harsh?" Bel cackled. "Now, Luss that's mean."

Levi grunted in agreement. "If that is harsh, then Yucca doesn't have his place in the Varia," he stated. "The Boss only requires Varia quality, nothing less."

"Ushishi, right, right. What Levi said!"

"And he betrayed us in the future," Leviathan added. "Taking him out wouldn't be far-fetched," he finished with an unnoticeable smirk at the thought of finally getting rid of the raven.

Mammon who quietly sat in the corner of the couch didn't add anything. Sipping their tea, they thought back on the memories they received. They were extremely short and unbecoming compared to the others.

If they were right, their vision lasted approximatively a day, a week at most while the others were equivalent to at least a month if not more. What's more, their memories didn't take place at the same moment. While most of the Varia's happened by the time Sawada Tsunayoshi was propelled to the future, theirs took place way before and a small part by the end of Tsunayoshi's journey.

"That's right, Mammon-chan," Lussuria called out, snapping the smaller guardian out of their thought. Mammon hummed, taking a sip of their drink, to show they were listening. "What do you think?" the green head asked enthusiastically.

Mammon put their cup down before turning their head Lussuria's way. "About what?"

"Ushishi, the baby wasn't listening to you Luss," Bel mocked before taking another piece of cake and eating it.

Lussuria heaved a sigh, pouting before smiling brightly at the smaller guardian. "About Yucca-chan," unnoticeably, Mammon flinched slightly at the mention of the cloud. "What do you think we should do?"

"I want to kill him," came Mammon's uncensored answer, surprising both the Varia and themselves. The mist was normally calmer, not the type to kill without thinking unlike most of their members. Profit always came first with Mammon, if taking someone out didn't bring them money they usually put more thought into it. Silence came over the room, feeling the shift in the atmosphere, Mammon took a sip of their drink before muttering. "That was a joke."

Belphegor and Lussuria burst out laughing, from nervousness or genuine amusement they didn't know it themselves.

The door to the living room slammed open.

"Voiiii, shut up scums!" Came Squalo's loud voice. "You're too loud damnit!" He yelled even louder.

::

Bang. Bang!

Yucca evaded his Boss' bullets, hurriedly standing up he dashed to the door. "I will see you tomorrow," another bullet flew past him. "Then Boss," opening the door, he quickly closed it, not waiting for his Boss' answer, he deemed the used ammunition an already satisfying answer.

Bang. Bang!

Two dents appeared in the mahogany door and the raven head suddenly felt grateful to those who made it bulletproof.

Sighing, he let his left hand run through his raven locks. He didn't think this small talk with his Boss would tire him out so much. Walking down the deserted hallway, he came across the young maidservant from before. Nodding to her as to tell her she could go back to her duty he continued his walk around the headquarter.

He expected his vision to affect him, they always did. But he didn't think they would come and bite him the way they did. The fact that other people would one day receive visions was something he had ignored. Yucca mentally scolded himself, from the moment he was conscious of his... gift? Right, of his ability he should have thought about the possibility of others having a similar one.

Byakuran was a primary example and Yuni too if he believed the information he received from his vision. Looking at it again, Yucca realized possessing otherworldly knowledge might not be as uncommon as he thought. Rebirth and transmigration too when he saw Mukuro's current state.

Assuming things without checking them beforehand was his error, he would be sure not to make the same one again.

Going down the stairs, the raven decided to wander for a bit before going back to his room. So long as he didn't get out of the mansion or got in contact with someone from the exterior he should be okay. He paused, it sounded like he was a convict or something.

He rubbed his temple in a circular motion, sighing before adopting his smiling mask. Whatever he was- no is the God of Death. If he wanted to get out of here or realized he was in a bad situation, he would get out without a second thought and no trouble.

He had lived in the mansion long enough to know almost every trap, secret door and to master the security system. So long as he had his phone to invade the system, a few weapons, and his visions he should be able to get out. He had enough fake identities the Varia and Vongola didn't know about to go under the radar for a while if needed too.

Going back to being a freelance assassin wouldn't hurt. Yucca had the money and a place to flee. Worst case scenario he would seek asylum with his 'brother'... He didn't want that, running to Byakuran. Especially after what happened in the future, he didn't know where their relationship stood anymore.

Heaving another sigh, the guardian's footstep, came to a pause in front of the door leading to the living room. From where he stood he could hear his comrades- or were they now, he wondered. He could hear them bickering about loudness it seemed. Something about Squalo complaining because he couldn't nap the way he wanted with how Bel and Luss were laughing.

The cloud stopped himself from chuckling. It seemed this battle for silence had evolved into an almost all-out brawl where the one who shouted or in Bel's case laughed the loudest won.

It warmed his heart to realize how they hadn't really changed after receiving their future self's memories. His hand reached for the doorknob before stopping mid-air, inches away from the silver coated handle.

A wry smile replaced his previously perfect business smile. Well, even so, their behavior may remain the same, but it surely wasn't the case around him.

Closing his eyes, Yucca brought his hand back by his side. He exhaled slowly before opening them again, a trouble light flashing through them before disappearing, his mask back in place. He turned around, walking back to the stairs.

No use dwelling over spilled milk, he couldn't change what they had seen. He could only wait until they took it in and analyzed all of the information. They weren't used to it after all. Receiving visions.

Walking back up to his room, Yucca asked one of the butlers to bring him his meal directly. He didn't think meeting with all of them right now was a good choice.

How he couldn't wait to hit the mattress, the letter on his study could wait.

::

Huffing and puffing, Squalo snarled. "Whatever," he slumped on one of the free seats. "Voi, bring me something to drink!" he ordered one of the sweating servants. Hurriedly nodding, the man went to fetch a drink for the rain.

"Ushishi, aren't you going to nap?" taunted Bel in an exceptionally annoying voice.

Squalo's left hand twitched, itching to grab his sword. "Tch, I'm not tired anymore, shitty prince," he snapped.

"Now, now, Squalo-chan let's not get violent?" Lussuria tried to coax.

"Whatever," Tapping his finger on his armchair, Squalo fell silent. "VOI, where's my drink!" he shouted, standing up.

On cue the butler entered the room, a tray in hand he strode to the fuming rain. "I apologize, Squalo-sama," the man muttered with a bow as he put the drink and snacks down.

Grabbing the male's collar, Squalo pulled him up. His sour mood hadn't helped the poor servant's state. "Vooiii, what took you so long trash!" he asked threateningly as he let some of his frustration loose.

The servant paled slightly, trying to contain his fear in front of the Varia's leading members he gulped. "I-I," he stuttered, unable to form a word under the pressure the Varia's strategist was emitting.

"Come on, Squalo-chan," Lussuria called out, making the rain snap his head the sun's way. "Let the poor man down, you're scaring him."

Clicking his tongue Squalo complied, letting the man down he didn't stop himself from glaring at him. "So?" he growled.

"I," the butler took a breath in. "I met Yucca-sama on the way to the kitchen. He asked me to bring him his dinner directly tonight," he explained, voice growing smaller as he felt the increasing pressure at the cloud's mention.

"Tch, so it was the small trash," Squalo muttered before slumping on his seat. With a wave of his hand, he dismissed the servant before taking his drink.

"Ushishi, Yu was there then?" Bel chirped with a grin. "I wonder why he didn't join us," he mused before giggling.

{???, ???}

"Koro-chan, Koro-chan!" A whitehead called out, shaking a seemingly sleeping raven head awake. "Am I going to disappear?" the purple-eyed male whined, tears almost dripping from his eyes.

Blinking his eyes open, Koro's pitch black orbs, met Yucca's purple ones. He grabbed the white head, dragging him down, so the two males laid side by side. Resting his head on the raven's torso, Yucca snuggled himself in the older's arm.

"Don't worry, you won't," Koro whispered, petting the younger's white locks to calm him down.

You can't disappear in the first place. Went unsaid.

First 'real contact' with the Varia since Future Arc, I missed them a bit to be honest since Future Arc didn't feature them much.

Anyway, thanks for reading, until next time^^
