10. Start of The Rings' Battle
{Varia headquarter, Italy}
"Squalo," Levi called out, gaining his comrade's attention. "the boss wants to see you, hurry."
"Tch, I'm going," Squalo answered getting up from the couch he was laying on. His silver locks swayed as he made his way to his boss.
In the living room, the remaining members observed the whole interaction, wondering why Xanxus would call for Squalo.
"Ushishishi, is the boss angry?"
"Ara ara, I don't think so, Squalo-chan brought the rings back after all. He's probably going to congratulate him."
"Ten days after he gave them to him?" Yucca rhetorically asked, "I doubt it."
"I agree," Mammon added in a murmur. Looking at the ring in their hand, they narrowed their eyes, "I bet they are fake."
Silence
"Really," Bell's grin dropped for a second. "is he trying to play this prince?"
"My is that true?" Lussuria asked his tone going down.
Crash
"Well, we have our answer," Yucca said sighing as he stood up from his seat.
The living room's door opened, letting Xanxus in. Wearing a permanent scowl, Squalo followed behind closely with a bloody nose.
"We're leaving for Japan." Xanxus' voice boomed, "We'll obliterate them."
::
{Varia's private jet}
"I didn't think my research would come in handy," Yucca confessed as he gave files out to the other Varia member. "no offense boss."
"The boss' orders are always justified," Levi grunted as he read the paper Yucca handed. "Don't question their legitimacy."
"Yes, yes, my bad."
"Why is the mist page blank?" Mammon inquired. "The others all have precise information on all possible candidate to the guardian title. Mist only has a few names and nothing useful."
Flipping through his, own file Lussuria nodded "Mammon-chan's right."
"Ushishi, didn't you say information gathering was one of your fortes?"
"Shut up." Xanxus growled. "It doesn't matter with or without these we'll crush them. Trash will always be trash."
"The boss is right, I believe in you, Mammon. I'm sure you'll succeed anyway." Yucca provided. "And my information probably isn't as accurate as before. In ten days they should have had enough time to prepare," he added thoughtfully.
"Tch, it doesn't matter how much the scum trains. The weak will always be weak." Squalo grunted.
::
{Namimori, Japan}
"It doesn't matter how many time I take the plane." Yucca dizzily stated, leaning against the wall. "Feeling jet-lagged is probably my destiny, my punishment for taunting the authorities at Mach 20 in the last life," he grunted his voice going down.
His colleagues only looked at him strangely, their gazes a blend of pity and amusement mixed with a tint of confusion at the last statement.
"Tch, move trash. We don't have all night."
"Come on Yucca-chan, don't let the plane get to you."
"Ushishi, so Yu gets motion sickness."
"I don't!" he exclaimed.
"Voiii, hurry scums, the boss is leaving!"
Quickly following their boss and vice-commander, the three members continued to bicker. Well, Bell and Yucca did while Lussuria tried to calm them down.
BOOM
"Levi's probably in this direction. I hope he didn't involve the civilians."
"Ushishi this is going to be fun."
As they made their way to the explosion, the Varia heard Levi's low voice. "If you interrupt I'll eliminate you all."
"Ah... we should hurry," Yucca stated worry evident in his voice.
"Hold it Levi!" Lussuria shouted as he jumped behind Levi. Belphegor following closely.
Fortunately, Luss is there to reason him!
"Don't hunt them down on your own." Or not.
"Wait, Luss! Don't! You should calm him down, not encourage him!" Yucca exclaimed as he made himself and Gola Mosca who was trailing close behind him known to the Vongola.
His intervention didn't go unnoticed, and suddenly everyone's attention was on him. Tsuna and his group looked at him strangely for a few seconds before widening their eyes "Professor Jones!" they exclaimed.
"Ara, Yucca-chan you didn't tell us you were a teacher," Lussuria smirked.
"I'm not, they, have the wrong person. My name's not Jones." Yucca denied, glancing at the Vongola.
"Voii, stop it let's kill them," Squalo announced. "how dare you trick me, you piece of trash."
Squalo was about to attack Tsuanyoshi's rain guardian candidate when he felt a tap on his shoulder. "Move" a voice growled behind him.
Getting in front of his men, Xanxus glared at the teens in front of him. His gaze stopped on a certain brunet as his killing intent became more and more apparent.
"Sawada Tsunayoshi," he announced as he prepared himself to attack and kill the young Vongola.
"Hold it Xanxus," a voice boomed as a pick was thrown in the Varia's direction, "that's enough." On the building next to the one, the Varia stood on was the CEDEF.
Iemitsu Sawada, the Vongola Consigliere swept his gaze over the teens first to check if they were okay, before looking in the Varia's direction. His eyes posed for a millisecond on Yucca's figure, giving, a sigh of disappointment, his attention turned to Xanxus.
"I don't think you're a suitable boss Xanxus." Iemitsu fearlessly stated. "Maybe as the leader of an assassination squad you're the best. But leading a Famiglia is different." taking out two scrolls from his pocket he continued. "This holds the Ninth's will." he tossed them to the two boss candidates.
Both Xanxus and Tsunayoshi opened the scrolls, revealing beautiful cursive letters and dying will flame on top, proving the letter's authenticity.
At the sight of the letter, a small smirk appeared on Xanxus' face.
"The Ninth approves of Xanxus as the next boss," Iemitsu began, "but I don't. So let's start the traditional Vongola battle to satisfy everyone." he stated seriously. "Those who wield the same type of ring will fight in a one-on-one battle."
As if on cue, two women with pink hair appeared. Brandishing their, own order which shone with the ninth's flame, they calmly began. "We are the Cervello organization, serving directly under the Ninth." the first one who wore a dress stated.
"Please consider our decisions regarding the scramble battle for the rings as the Ninth's decision." the second one continued.
Asking if both sides held any question or objections, they answered before continuing and explaining the battle's rules.
"In this battle, the one who is truly worthy to wield these rings will prove it with their lives." the Cervello delivered before turning around, "Well we should await you at 11.00pm tomorrow night at Namimori Junior High." With that, the two feminine figures faded into the night. Not answering any more questions.
Lost, Tsunayoshi tried to gather his wits, looking around for answers, he met with Xanxus' cold gaze petrifying him.
The Varia too went away.
::
"When are they going to get here," Yucca whined sitting on the rooftop as he let his legs swing freely. "I'm bored..." looking down, a small smirk, adorned his features.
He jumped down the roof, leaving his comrades and joining the small group of teens. "Good evening." he greeted with a smile, startling most of his audience.
Most glared at him while a few didn't react to his presence. "You," Reborn started looking straight into Yucca's purple irises. "Have we met before?"
Yucca's business smile widened, "I'm sorry, I'm not interested." Tsuna choked.
Reborn didn't falter, his gaze still on the male he asked another question. "Why are you here if you're not part of Xanxus' guardians." this question caught Tsuna and his guardians attention who surveyed the young adult for any trace of a ring.
Yucca gazed at him unimpressed before giving a chilling smile. "But I am one of his guardians, the cloud one to be precise. I only entrusted it to my closest aid: Gola Mosca," looking over the teen he huffed childishly, breaking the previous atmosphere. "'Cause I don't think I'll need to fight against you. You ain't worthy of my time."
This remark seemed to irk Gokudera who was about to snap at him when the Cervello interrupted them.
"Upon a strict conference the battle-cards for the scramble battle have been decided for tonight," the first one stated.
"The first match is the battle between the guardians of the sun." the second finished.
Giving a small nod in Reborn's direction, Yucca retreated to his comrades' side to sit next to the Gola Mosca. In front of both group stood an arena, similar to a boxing ring, both sun guardians made their way to the middle.
"Well, the wielders of the rings of the sun, Lussuria versus Sasagawa Ryohey. Begin the battle!" the Cervello announced. Following the signal, the ring lit-up, artificial lights blazed in the dark, blinding those who looked at them.
With their shades, the Varia observed as Ryohey was getting, mercilessly kicked by Lussuria. Yucca scrunched his nose in disgust, Lussuria had broken Ryohey's left arm without a second thought and was getting ready to achieve him.
Yucca internally sighed, his stay in Kunigigaoka made him softer. Mentally scolding himself, his gaze flickered to the small figure: Colonello. The baby must have said something to Ryohey when he wasn't looking because Tsunayoshi's sun guardian had destroyed the ring's blazing light.
The unfair fight a bit less unfair, Ryohey to Lussuria's delight stood up. But in the end, the gap was just too big, Lussuria destroyed Ryohey's right hand.
"This is stupid," Yucca muttered as he stood up. "I'm going back to the hotel. I'm leaving Mosca to you," The others spared him a glance before looking back at the match.
On his way out, Yucca met with Sasagawa Kyoko and Kurokawa Hana, Ryohey's sister and her friend if I remember correctly.
Politely greeting them, he casually made his way out of the school grounds. He didn't plan on looking at a dying teenager any longer. At least not now.
::
"Lussuria lost," Levi told him. Yucca only stared at him dumbly for a few seconds, registering the info.
"That is..." impossible was omitted.
Taking a deep breath, he calmed himself and looked at his silent counterpart. "Where is he?" he inquired, his eyes narrowed. Although he didn't wholeheartedly agree to the match's terms, he still cared for Lussuria and couldn't help being worried.
Levi grunted, analyzing the black-head. "Gola Mosca took care of him."
"I see..." Yucca whispered, his face emotionless when his voice betrayed his worry.
Levi tched, he didn't like Yucca, he was too unpredictable and predictable at the same time. But above all even though he was skilled, he was compassionate at times, when compassion wasn't needed. Such as now, with Lussuria.
Lussuria had failed, his mission. It was normal for him to receive the appropriate punishment. The fact that the flamboyant male wasn't dead yet showed his boss' kindness. After all, the weak fell in front of the strong. It was nature. If a weakling could beat Lussuria, then Lussuria wasn't worth more than them.
Staring impassively at Yucca who was still deep in thought, Levi spoke up, "Tomorrow," he began "it will be my fight. I will show them the Varia's worth."
Yucca's gaze settled on his figure, "Against the baby?"
Levi nodded before turning around, leaving the slightly shorter male in the small kitchenette.
Pouring himself a cup of tea, Yucca leaned against the wall, still pensive.
I didn't sign up for this, these kids, are the age of my students.
Taking a sip of his warm drink, he closed his eyes and thought of his next course of actions.
Abandoning the Varia was a no-go, he was too attached to its member who for the most part he considered his family. He wanted, felt the need to look over them.
Nevertheless, this made him support Xanxus. He should take his responsibility for following him, retreating now would be cowardice. Exhaling, he opened his eyes and entered the shared room.
All the other Varia members were gathered, except Lussuria. None of them seemed bothered by the flamboyant male's absence, and Yucca had to wonder whether their indifference was fake or genuine. After all, in the assassination world, lying was as simple as breathing.
Sweeping his gaze over each of them, they finally settled on his boss who was comfortably seated in a quilted reclining chair, sipping his wine.
Finishing his cup quietly, he set it down and made his way to the door leading to the corridor and outside.
"I'm going out," he announced to no one in particular only earning a few grunts of acknowledgment. No one asked any question, after all, it was an unofficial rule not to pry in the other members' business within the Varia.
In the middle of the night, a dark silhouette made its way through the dark streets. The silent shadow moved at a fast pace, steadily getting closer to its destination: Namimori junior high.
As he arrived, Yucca could admire the remanent of the boxing ring used as an arena during the sun battle. The young Vongola's were nowhere to be, seen as people Yucca had never seen silently dismantled the previous battlefield.
Not too far on the ground laid a motionless and badly beaten Lussuria.
"I'll be taking him," Yucca declared as he gently took hold of Lussuria's body, bridal style. None of the unknown employees asked any question, only briefly glancing at the male before resuming their work.
::
A blonde lady elegantly walked down Namimori's street, her pace not too fast nor too slow, she confidently made her way to Namimori's hospital a black leather suitcase in one hand and cute polka dotted basket in the other.
Entering the hall, the sophisticated woman took off her black shades, revealing a pair of captivating green eyes and calmly made her way to the reception desk.
"Excuse me," she interrupted the male who was, focused on his computer, "I am looking for a patient named Sasagawa Ryohey, could you please show me the way to his room?" she inquired her voice calm and steady as she gently gazed at the receptionist.
And so the Varia arc begins! Any guess on who the blonde lady might be?
Also, I don't know if you noticed, but I changed the fiction's name and cover.
Thanks for reading, until next time
