Three
Was he a human? If it was a fiction, he surely wasn't a human being. How could someone be so perfect!?
Slightly taller than me, neither lean nor fat. Fair skin. Charcoal black hair, scattered. Unlike my dark brown eyes, his were black, as black as a black hole. Delicate facial features and-
"Yes??" he interrupted my deep thoughts
"Oh...uh...hi. Kanak!!" I extended my hand for a handshake.
Why am I so good at overthinking?
Silence.
"Dhruv." His hands were still inside the pockets of his solid navy blue hoodie and was staring at me curiously.
That's probably his favourite outfit.
Only if his expression weren't like that, I would have said 'How rude!'
"Mum is not at home." He sounded dizzy as if just woke up from the afternoon nap.
"No! Actually, I had some trouble in maths and... your mother told me that you can... maybe help me."
He opened the door wider and now looked more nervous than me. I laughed internally.
He looked at me that's when I realized that I must enter now. I stepped inside and he closed the door behind me.
I moved towards the sofa in the living room when he spoke-
"No, not here" I stopped abruptly.
He started moving towards a similar door, probably his room.
Wait! Was he asking me to go inside his room? We were alone in this house. Is he even aware of the word 'etiquettes'?
"Why not?" I asked nervously
"Because, because...I don't like the vibes here" he answered "I have a habit of studying on the study table"
He pointed towards his room door.
I wasn't scared of him. I even went to the self-defence workshop for a week. I know how to defend myself.
I followed him to that door. He pushed it open and stepped aside for me to enter first. It was pretty dark and what if he pushed me and locked it from the outside.
But why would he do that?
I stepped behind him, I don't like the dark. Thanks to all the horror movies I have watched till date.
"Are you...are you scared?" I knew from his voice that he wasn't mocking at me "I am sorry, I was always taught to, to put others first."
"Yes...but if I die in there, who will you teach then." I shrugged
He stepped inside and turned around to face me.
"Can you please turn on the lights?" I spoke loudly "and they must not flicker." I murmured the latter part to myself
He did so and I entered. I looked around.
It wasn't really bright and airy, the curtains were drawn too. Everything was in a dull colour, grey, black, blue, woody. A single bed to my left, a study table in the front, a few painting on the wall.
Wow! Were those actually painted by him?
He went straight to his study desk and sat on the chair. There were two chairs opposite each other, the same as they have in the interrogation rooms in the movies. He pointed at the chair in front of me. I took a few steps forward, placed my books on the table and then I sat.
I gave him my textbook.
He started looking at it, flipping through the pages as I wore my glasses.
"Which topic?" he asked.
"A few chapters actually" I mentioned showing all my thirty-two teeth.
He gave me a disappointed look. I placed my phone at my right on the table and then I opened my notebook.
I had the chapters written in my notebook, those which were coming for the exam.
"Do you want me to teach you all of it?" he asked as I searched for the list through the pages.
"Yes please, I mean it will help you revise too" I replied expecting him to agree.
He nodded.
"Chapter three. Four. Seven. Nine. Te-" I announced.
"How many?" he asked.
I silently counted and "six"
My phone beeped and I looked at it to see my Radhika's text, my friend.
She is only a friend because I don't have best friends. I never had a best friend because-
"When is your exam exactly?" he asked.
"How do you know I have an exam?" I looked up from the screen.
"I don't think you study every day" he tried to raise an eyebrow but failed miserably.
I fake frowned at that, controlling my laughter.
"I need to check"
I searched for the message in my phone
"8th December" I announced
"10 days from now which means you have 9 days and 6 chapters" I wasn't sure if he was talking to me or himself.
He planned and planned more and planned even more. while I managed to chat a bit with Radhika.
Then we concluded that we will study or I would say that he will teach me and I will study.
I mean I'll try to.
He will teach me for 1 hour every day and 2 hours on Sunday and one more day I don't exactly remember at 7 pm or 6...
Ugh! I don't even remember it properly.
"Can you write it down please!" I demanded
"What?" confused, he asked.
"Your...sorry my time table"
"It's not difficult you can easily remember that, see on Sunday we will study for two hours the first slot will be from-"
"No can you just please, I will forget it"
He gave me a 'seriously!' look and took the notebook from my hand.
He started writing and I was peeping in the paper so much so that I almost bumped my head into his.
"Ouch!"
"Sorry sorry really sorry"
"I am fine" he assured while rubbing his forehead
He continued and I was now looking at him. Scattered hair, sharp jawline, slightly parted lips and-
Oh no!
I guess he sensed that and looked up from the paper.
"Coffee!!" the only thing I managed to say at that moment. It would have been embarrassing for him to know that I was admiring his face.
"What?"
"You make amazing coffee." I ended the sentence with a nervous laugh.
"Thank you" he smiled and looked back on the paper.
"Can you teach me?"
"Sorry, but no"
"Why not? It was so...uh, tasty"
"That's the point"
"What do you mean?"
"It's a trade secret." I have no idea why he whispered.
"Oh, c'mon it wasn't that good."
It was.
"Actually, I was going to make two, two...like one for you but if you don't like it-"
"NO! it was good, it was amazing." I exclaimed and then politely I asked: "Can I have it too."
He laughed.
He has vampire teeth. Small but...Aww, he looks amazing. Wait, is he a vampire? I have never seen a vampire movie neither have I read a book nor watched a series. How will I know if he is actually a vampire?
Are vampires good or bad?
Wait he cannot be one, it's neither a book nor a movie.
I chuckled at my own thoughts. When I looked up at him, he already had wrinkles on his forehead and gave me a blank stare.
"Just a funny memory!" I shrugged.
~
Teaser: I pulled away quickly as realization struck me. I looked up at his face. Blank. His whole body had stiffened.
