Black & White

A girl without a story who was cursed to constantly lie, speaking the opposite of what she truly means. Her father promised money to a sorcerer who helped save their livestock from a plague, but when he couldn't deliver, the sorcerer cursed his daughter, Elisabetta, so that she may never speak the truth again. When the curse is broken in Storybrooke, Elisabetta (now going by her curse name, Melanie) realizes she still bears her personal curse, though its effects have lessened in this other realm, to the point where she's only forced to lie about the things that matter most to her. Such as her eventual feelings for August.

After Emma breaks Storybrooke's curse, and Melanie finds she can't locate her parents, she ventures into the woods seeking solace in her solitude, only to come across an entirely wooden August, whom she remembers speaking to at Granny's not long ago. She comes to understand his true identity as Pinnochio, and she ends up visiting him often in his trailer, with the promise that she not reveal his whereabouts to anyone (especially his father or Emma).

She falls for him not too terribly long into their meetings, but with the nature of her curse, she's unable to tell him.

Sometime later, he reverts back into his younger self, and Melanie decides she'll have to abandon her feelings anyway - though she often visits Marco and his son at their shop, presumably to make sure Pinnochio's settling in well. He obviously doesn't remember her, but he takes to her quickly and they form an unlikely friendship that Melanie both treasures and loathes, knowing her loss.

When August is eventually brought back by Rumple, and he's recovered enough that he can speak, he asks for Melanie, to which Emma replies that's something she can do and sets off to find her. She ends up stopping her at the town line, keeping her from stepping over and forgetting herself completely by telling her that August is back. Disbelieving but hopeful, Melanie follows Emma back to where August is recuperating, and the first thing he does is kiss her, and with it being true love's kiss, it breaks her curse, and she immediately tells August how much she loves him.

Multi-shot (not entire fanfic). Ten chapters, maybe.

Quotes I Intend to Use in the Story

"I'm not noteworthy enough to have a fairytale of my own; I'm not surprised. I was just an unfortunate girl, wrong time, wrong place. It happens." - Melanie/Elisabetta to Ruby/Red (DONE)

___

"I know a liar when I see one." - August to Melanie/Elisabetta (DONE)

___

"Look, you want the truth? Fine. Here it is. I'm a pathological liar. I can't help myself, and I've been this way my entire life, even back in the Enchanted Forest. So do yourself a favor and leave me alone. You're supposed to be brave, truthful, and unselfish, right? I'll just wreck your honest streak, August, and then you'll never get your real body back. I'm not worth it." - Melanie/Elisabetta to August

___

"Come on, everyone's got a story."

"Oh yeah? Then what's yours, August W. Booth?"

"Mine? It's... nothing really. Been all over the world, soaking up life's joys as I come across them."

"Sounds lonely."

"Lonely, really? A life of adventure and endless possibilities sounds lonely to you?"

"Yeah, it does. Because what I'm hearing is that you've been looking for something, and that you haven't found it yet. Therefore, lonely." - Melanie/Elisabetta and August (DONE)

___

"Being who I am, trust that I can tell when someone's lying. It may not be trademarked like Emma's so-called superpower, but... I know. Which begs the question of why you're lying to me." - August to Melanie/Elisabetta

___

"See, Killian? I told you there wasn't any reason to be jealous. August and I are friends, just friends."

"Aye, I can see that now. Take care of him, lass. He suits you better, anyway." - Emma and Hook to Melanie/Elisabetta and August after she declares her love for him
