Turned In
There was a sea of gold in front of me. Shining gold handled swords, coins, goblets, and other incredible objects. Serendipity lit a fire in an empty fire pit. The treasure shone like an entire galaxy of stars.
Always longing for beauty, my eyes nearly popped out of my head. I grabbed a bracelet and snapped it around my wrist. To unlock it, I saw that it had that same finger technique.
A smile stretched around the length of my head TWICE. "WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!"
People talk about swimming in riches, but I did it for real. I dove into the sea of gold, ending up doing a belly flop. Everything looked more amazing up close, right in front of my eyes. I fastened a dagger with a gold and diamond encrusted handle to my belt, slipped on a necklace, and poured a goblet of gold coins over my head--which hurt so I didn't do it again.
"Wait until Hiccup sees this."
My heart sank and I stared at my cream fur boots.
"He'll figure it out." I murmured. "He's clever enough, but I don't dare tell him."
I remembered all that Egil had said. All of it. And my chin lifted.
"He's somehow going to use this to destroy people." I announced to the dragons listening. "And I'm not going to tell anyone?"
The dragons cocked their heads. Serendipity turned purple.
"It's plain selfish." I stomped over to Serendipity's side, taking off the necklace and bracelet. "Come on, Dipper, I need to tell Hiccup what's going on until it's too late."
I leaped onto her back and she ran back down the tunnel. The dragons I had rescued roared a farewell after me.
The entrance of the cave became a spot of white light up ahead. Serendipity ran faster, starting to spread her wings. She launched out of the opening and took off into the sky.
"Let's see if I can steer you." I said. I had tried riding Toothless once before and had failed miserably.
But you've succeeded in getting off the ground. I told myself.
"Please follow me." I leaned to the side. Serendipity leaned with me. Breathless, I leaned to the other side with the same results.
I laughed. "Yes! I did it!" I patted my dragon's neck. "Thank you, Dipper."
Dipper cooed.
"Alright, let's do this." I steered her in the direction I had to go.
It wasn't long before I spotted a group of dragons up ahead. Soon I made out there riders.
"Cloud!" Hiccup gasped. "You're riding a dragon!"
Bluewing flung himself onto my face and began licking me all over. Laughing, I picked him up and tickled his chin.
"I know!" I beamed, rubbing Dipper's shoulders. "This is Serendipity."
Dipity melted into the colours green and yellow.
"Wow..." Fishlegs breathed. Everyone's mouths were open.
"Where did you find her?" Hiccup reached out to pet her. She let him.
"Last night, on a cliff." My answer reminded me why I had come back. "Hiccup, I need to speak to you in private."
I forced myself not to look at Egil. I could already picture him shaking with fear and fury.
"Sure." Hiccup smiled, though he looked confused. "Guys you wait here, we'll be right back."
Hiccup led the way to some quiet skies where we could talk.
"Where did you go?" He asked. "You had me scared out of my wits."
My heart fluttered. "Hiccup, I ran away because Egil tried to kill me."
"WHAT?" Hiccup's eyes bugged out.
"Bluewing saved my life. I ran away."
"Why didn't you come to me for help?"
"He said he would kill you, too, if I did. He's planning to destroy those who banished him."
"What about Bjorg?" Hiccup frowned.
"Egil said Bjorg didn't know how he felt. I think this is his plan alone."
Hiccup fell silent, glaring at the ground below.
"What are you going to do?" I asked.
"If we were on Berk, I'd throw him in jail immediately." Hiccup grumbled. "But we're not. If he's a murderer..."
Shouts erupted over where the others were.
"Come on!" Hiccup shouted, Toothless bolting in the fight's direction.
Egil was clawing Fishlegs arms with his hands, his teeth chattering together. "Let me down! Let me down!" He shrieked over and over.
He spun and our eyes met. A shiver went up my spine.
"You!" He screamed, shaking like he was in an earthquake.
I blinked as a black blur swooped over and Egil disappeared. I followed the sound of the screaming.
Egil was dangling from Toothless' claws, kicking and thrashing. He drew out his knife.
"Toothless watch out!" I screamed. He shouldn't have to be stabbed again.
Toothless peered under at the insane Viking and growled, snapping at the blade in Egil's grip. Egil jerked back and the knife plummeted to the trees below.
"Everyone," Hiccup announced. "Cloud has discovered that Egil Skellington is planning a mass murder."
Egil screamed at me.
"It's a lie!" Bjorg snapped. "'ave ye not seen 'ow timid 'e is?"
"He tried to murder her last night." Hiccup glared at Bjorg. "If it weren't for Bluewing, she wouldn't be here."
Bluewing climbed onto my shoulder and puffed out his chest.
"Egil," Bjorg turned to his little brother. "It's not true. Tell them."
"I will never forgive those who banished me!" Egil screamed. "I will kill them all as soon as I 'ave the chance!"
"But," Bjorg's shoulders drooped. "They're you're family."
"Not any more." Egil spat.
There was a flaming hot silence.
"I think we have enough proof." Hiccup said.
Bjorg gasped, gripping Snotlout's shoulders for support.
"You mean we've been trying to find treasure for HIM?" Ruff demanded.
Hiccup frowned at her.
"Shut up." Astrid said.
"Any treasure hunt is over until Egil is dealed with." Hiccup said.
Bjorg looked up. "Yer not goin' to do away with 'im?" he asked.
I saw Hiccup's eyes soften. "No. We'll put him in Berk's jail until my dad decides what to do."
"Ye won't get away with this!" Egil struggled, fighting air. "Ye'll see! I WILL get free, and I will kill every one of ye!"
