Chapter twenty two

a/n: Short chapter, I know. but I'm re-introducing Maya Ducard because she's extremely under-rated in DC comics and I love my angry smols so much. Scorn and Wrath eventually show up in this story too, and their apperance start showing up in this chapter. And the green shooting star is an important thing, it's just time is weird right now in how i'm writing. Along with the new detective, all of that happened hours ago. I haven't forgotten about anything, it's just this part of the story is extremely eventful and it all basically takes place on the night before Halloween-eve

"Maya." Damian says her name like it's the warmest thing he's done all day. He can't exactly help the smallest and faintest smile that displays on his features as he stands across from her. Free of soaking wet clothes, after changing into a grey sweater with a white button up and tie underneath. A blacj jacket and casual jeans with plain sneakers. His hair is still a little bit damp, though. And it usually curls just the slightest bit when it's wet. So he's got one odd-ball curl sticking up in the back of his head, that Maya finds the most amusing about him.

Maya Ducard. She's at least an year older than Damian, and after what he's done to her? They're friends. After what the two of them even went through? Damians year of atonement brought on by her? It's only natural the two of them still talk to each other. And they're more than just friends- She's basically an older sister. Of course, not by blood. She's just as much as a sibling to him as Dick is to him. Tim, and Jason too. As much as he doesn't like to admit that part, either. But between Dick and Maya? It's tough to say who he gets along with in a sibling way more.

Maya is part of the reason Damian is so different now. Not only after finding out about his year of blood, and then proceeding to force him to attone for everything he did?

She's Nobody. As in, she took up the mantle of Nobody after he died. And Nobody? Morgan ducard. Her father.

But why did Morgan Ducard, Nobody, die?

Damian killed him. It was almost as soon as he started his redemption as robin. Morgan found out about all of them, who they were. They secret identities. Everything. He wasn't a good person. He even split Damian and Bruce up for a whlie, making Damian his own partner for a little bit. but the entire time, Damian was doing it to get an opening. To take Nobody out.

Like hell he had any idea Nobody had a daughter. A daughter who ended up making her own 'Nobody' suit and using it to find out what happened to her father. And once she found out, she found a video explaining who Robin and Batman were. She went home, and studied.

But she didn't kill him. She attempted to, yes. But she blackmailed him. Maya Ducard successfully blackmailed Damian Wayne. And forced him to attone for his year of blood, and forced him to atone for what he did to her father. And at the end of it all? She found herself understanding him better, and seeing that he was already a better person and had already paid for what he did to Maya's father. At the end of it all, Damian had gained a sister. Through all the hardships with his father and his brothers, Maya made it known to Damian that he's only gained more family.

Morgan Ducard was a bad person. But Maya isn't. She's usually on the down low with the 'Nobody' suit. Doesn't use it often, and with what she's called Damian to talk about? She'll be using it even less, now.

"Damian, I'm planning on trying to find my mom." She spoke up, pushing a strand of short brown hair behind her ears. Wide brown eyes filled with hope and excitement only make Damian's smile widen the slightest bit. Her skin is maybe a little darker than Damian's, and her hair stops right above her shoulders in thick soft locks of chestnut brown. She's wearing a short leather jacket over a yellow T-shirt and a white skirt that goes just above the highest part of her shins. Some brown boots that leave an inch of a difference between the two.

"I think that looking for her is a good idea, Maya. I'm sure you'll find her." Damian says as he closes his eyes and takes a seat down on the couch in front of the large window. It's a near empty room. A coffee table in the center on top of an old rug, a couch, and a large window that takes up nearly the entire wall. Maya's place. She's paying rent, in cash, once a month. How to know she's not going to be in Gotham for very long.

"Me too. How's Goliath?" She asked, referring to the large red Dragon-like Bat that Damian has as a pet. Not so much a pet, more so he see's as a friend. He hates calling his animals pets, really. But he tamed Goliath when he was eight and then proceeded to keep the beast by his side until he realized that once he became Robin, there was no room for said Giant Bat in the cave. Instead, goliath stays in a forest land somewhere on Nanda Parbat. Far away from any people, far away from anybody or anything that would possibly hurt him. Not that Goliath can't handle himself. He's basically a giant Bat from hell. Of course, that's not true. It's just how Maya described it the very first time she set her eyes on the beast.

"Good. I'd bring him to gotham, but I fear he will eat Bat-Cow."
"Bat-what?" Maya nearly shouted back, coughing on a drink of water she had taken out of the cup in her hands while she raised both eyebrows along with wide eyes.

"Please don't tell me that's like a Bat-Cow Hybrid. Even for you, that's too much." Maya said in just a little bit more of a calmer voice, trying to make out his own face in the darkness of the room. Being here so little means little to no power, so she's trying to save as much as possible. And no matter how many times Damian invites her to the manor, she's agreed to herself never to step foot on the property.

At her response Damian lets out a lighthearted chuckle, shaking his head and explaining the backstory to Bat-cow and how it connects to him being a vegetarian. After a little bit of explaining, Maya understood. but still found him really confusing. Alfred the Cat, she gets. Titus the Great Dane, she gets. Goliath? Took her some time, but she gets. But a cow? She's wrapping her head around it.

Damian still remembers the first conversation he had with Maya about Goliath. He said that she should take him, Goliath would be better off with her anyways. But of course, Matya had to go and say that Goliath belonged to Damian. To which he denied, stating that Goliath never belonged to him in the first place. Goliaths response? Big old lick to literally half of Damian's entire body. Leaving his hair dripping in Beast-Bat slobber. Only to proceed to grab both Maya and Damian in each arm and yank the two of them in a tight embrace. Of course, Damian only retorted this by calling Goliath a 'stupid bat.'

So it kinda means something to Damian that Maya's still asking about how goliath is doing.

"Do you have any leads on mothe-your mother?" Damian stopped himself mid-sentence. Stiffened up a bit, and even in the dark Maya could see this. She frowned, not caring if Damian could see this or not. Maya's only spoken to Talia once. It was on the other end of a tombstone. The only exception she made to stepping onto Wayne Manor property. Damian said he wanted to show her something, that something ended up being his mother's grave. It was something Damian wanted Maya to understand, so she went along with it and told Talia, albeit a one sided conversation, how great of a person Damian's become. Regardless is Maya's the reason for some of it. It was all Damian's motivation, and his redemption.

"Only that she's been looking for my dad. God, she has no idea. She probably doesn't even know I'm alive. god, this is all so unfair. I caught a picture of her on a security camera in Anaheim, and I don't think she's down there to go to Disneyland." Maya spoke casually, trying to push off about how this was all so unfair.

"Do you need resources to find her? You know I'm here if you ever need anything-"
"Damian, no that's fine. I got it and I appreciate it. I just thought I'd let you know about it before I go off and look for her. What about your problem with Scorn? I know things between the two of you have gotten more violent as of recently. He's taken hostages, anybody he finds on the streets. I saw it Damian, you can't pretend he didn't do that." Maya spoke, worry lacing every word she spoke.

"Scorn figured it out. Wrath dropped the first clue, but Scorn was the one to call me Damian. He knows, Maya." Damian said, there wasn't worry in his voice. But it wasn't like he was completely care-free. The last person who figured out that Batman and Robin purely on personal instinct alone was Morgan Ducard. And Damian killed him just to keep that secret a secret. Maya only found out due to video evidence.

Scorn and Wrath are some-what new criminals. Showing up when Tim was robin, but after an incident where Tim went a little too far and broke Scorns leg in between a brick wall and a car? They went out of action for a little bit.

Which only gave them time to do their studying. Coming to a conclusion that Bruce Wayne was Batman, and that meant Damian Wayne was Robin.

Wrath was older, and as far as Damain's seen? They're a brother duo. Wrath is the older brother, only maybe a year or two younger than Dick. And Scorn is close to Damian's age. Adorning himself in a black and white suit with a mask that covers not only his eyes, but his entire forehead. A giant blue disc-like circle in the center of it all instead of two eye slits for him to see out of. It's some sort of video-recording device that plays what's right in front of him behind the mask for him to see. Along with anything that he can make an advantage out of.

He has a more technical line of sight compared to Damian. It's why Scorn's always getting the drop on him lately.

It takes Damian a minute to think. Scorn knows who he is. So it wouldn't be surprising if he's been watching him. Around outside, definitely not the manor though.

But it's possible he's seen him at school. Seen him with you.

Then Damian remembers the warning that the white-caped criminal gave him last time they fought.

"You think you're so good at keeping your secrets, Damian. But there are things worse than being Robin that you don't even want other people to know."
