Chapter Forty Eight

"Hey, I nearly got an arrow in the head. We've been training for a month straight, and this is the first time I go out and do something and then this happens? I don't even know what this is, I thought that type of thing was normal for you?" Lea asked, swinging her arms by her sides and sprinting to catch up to the tall muscular redhead in front of her. Running mostly on the tips of her toes to go faster to catch up with his open wide spaced strides.

"I should have waited longer, I knew something was off but I dind't think that's why I'd need backup." Abuse mumbled, more so to himself if anything. All the while he was walking her back to the main storage unit the two have been using as some type of base of operations. Lea's gotten the feeling that he works with several other people, but not always on a more personal 'Always go to' type of thing. Like, he'll get in contact if he really needed to. Lea's already picked up a lot of things about him, so much of it doesn't even make sense.

"Okay, but that literally does not explain anything at all. It's just a drug that's gaining a little popularity, big deal. Drugs do that! That's kinda what a drug does, man. What's the big deal? Is it like, a mix of heroine and meth combined with just a touch of LSD?" She replied, turning on the light as the large storage door was pulled downwards and shut. Plopping herself into the nearest wooden chair and sighing. Huffing a lock of black hair out of her face before pulling the black baseball cap off.

"If it's weed, I'm out. All weed does is make you hungry and reduces pain. Dude, if this is weed you're really working with the wrong person. I'm from Portland!" She exclaimed, throwing her hands up and slouching back further. Abuse walked from the closed door and into the middle of the dimly lit room. Standing in front of a cork wall with pins pushed into it and pictures. Lacking the red yarn connecting points, obviously. But he seems to have everything working out.

"It's not. The first time it was being sold on the street, it was cheaper-"
"Wait, so it was less than ten dollars a gram? That's incredibly easy to come by." Lea was quick to cut Abuse off, using the only knowledge of buying drugs she has from her dad and that one time Mason made a bunch of really bad choices.

Wincing her eyes and waving a hand in front of her face, using her free hand to rake her fingers through her hair. She blew out an exhausted sigh, knowing full well that if something so cheap was so easy to get, it'd have been everywhere by now. And without her exactly knowing what it does, she doesn't take this too seriously and think of it as a real threat. But Abuse knows what the drug does, and why it's so dangerous.

"Something like that. But I know about the supplier now. Kobra, I have a friend who can help with that. He has a team and they're currently doing covert missions to find out more. What they found was that Kobra themselves aren't alone in this, and they have a silent partner that produces the main ingredient in Leviathan." Abuse said, putting his hands on his head and taking off his hat. Leaving his bright green eyes to be shown out of the darkness under his hat and to give Lea a better look at his face in the light. She usually sees him with the hat on at almost all times. She it's always kinda a moment whenever he takes off the hat. Why? Because he knows her name, he knows she's helping out because she has a personal reason, and he knows what she looks like. She doesn't even know what his actual name is, let alone why he looks like steroids on steroids.

"That guy said Levithan like two or three times, maybe it's not just the drug? We already know what the drug's name is called, so why would he waste time telling us what we already know." Lea asked, raising an eyebrow and crossing her arms over her chest. The storage unit is pretty small, but it's big enough for the two to sit down and talk. Or as Abuse likes to do, stand and stare at everything he already has put out on paper. Plans and information he's gathered in the past month.

He's already brought her up to speed on what the Kobra cult is, and just mentioning them gives Abuse feelings he wants to get rid of. Kobra is apart of the reason he's like this. Sure, they were only a small factor. But they were the ones who supplied Scarecrow with the Venom that made him this way. He's long since gotten use to the changes, and he's using them for the better. But he's still having trouble remaining like this for longer periods of time.

Lea's noticed it. The odd pulse of green under the skin in a vein on his neck. It happens rarely, but she see's it. There are moments when he's not as strong as he thinks he is, or a lot of the built of strength gets wasted too quickly. He needs to change back soon, but there's too much to explain to Lea in time. He can already see his vision hazing slightly, and it's getting harder to focus with his eyes.

"I don't know much about Levithan, other than the fact that it's an organization branched off of the League."
"Justice League? Dude, do you know Wonder Woman?! That's totally-"
"Lea."
"Oh yeah, right. Continue."

Abuse called Robin, and then went to explain some much needed context to Lea.

**With you, at your home.**

"I do not know what I am doing." You said into the phone, voice in a deadpan drone as you stared up at the ceiling. Legs dangling off of the side of the bed. You had your phone on your chest, and both limbs stretched out like a star.

"Have you found your dad?" Mason asked, his voice coming out concerned and shied away from the other side of the line. Knowing it's a thin line to talk about your dad with you. after all, he and Lea were the two that were with you since kindergarten. Both of them remember him, slightly.

"No. I have this weird journal that I'm halfway through translating. My thirteenth century Latin is kinda rusty." You said in that same voice, letting your eyes seemingly roll to the left as you looked at the door.

"The only Latin I know is Ex Machina-"
"God in the machine."
"Did you not hear me say that's the only one I know?" He laughed, crinkling something on the other line. You raised an eyebrow, but ignored it.

"Did you know I was kidnapped a month ago?" You asked, closing your eyes and keeping them directed up to the ceiling. Things are just so intense right now, you're not even sure how you're supposed to cope with being kidnapped. Even more so by someone who's close to your age. And then the entire Robin thing? Turns out he's someone you've gotten pretty close to over the past couple months, and again, with what happened before he left.

"So I heard, are you in witness protection? I know Gotham isn't so great in terms with police. Then again not many places are great with police." He asked, again the crinkling sound in the background from his side of the call came on once again.

"If things start to get bad, the Commissioner said that he can send in another group instead. But this one would be lead by a detective so everybody keeps their stuff together instead of not doing their job. He gave me a name, Laura Morris. She seemed pretty okay. I haven't spoken to her, hopefully I won't have to. But if I'm put in any danger, she gets to step in apparently." You explained, rolling your eyes and huffing.

"What about Lea? Is she okay?" He asked, voice going verbally and almost seemingly visibly concerned. You smiled just a little bit at that, knowing that in Mason's position? You'd be saying a lot more.

"I'm pretty sure she's a part-time vigilante. She also happened to steal from a nun."
"Oh my god."

There was a bit of a silence. You kept thinking about how you and Damian were before you even encountered Robin. Constantly internally worrying about him because he's always covered in scars and bruises. Being so physically close to him nearly everyday for a month or two because of the stupid thing the principal signed the two of you up for. The only reason you two got out of that was because you were kidnapped. Your mom also may or may not have threatened to pull up a lawsuit if they kept you in that after the incident.

Thinking about how things changed very quickly, Damian started coming by the coffee shop. He actually helped with the money put into it to go back to fixing it after what happened. The roof was in ruins, there was rubble everywhere, things were just broken. Books were burned, some things in the cafe were destroyed. But he stepped in and helped because he wanted too. You never asked him too, you even told him not to do any of that. But of course, he's the son of a billionaire. So he kept using that excuse. He also made a side comment about how he understands the whole "Family Business" thing.

Which is now another thing you understand. Family business, he might not be talking about Wayne Enterprises. You know he has a couple brothers. Dick and Tim. There was also Jason Todd, but as far as you know? Bruce Wayne's second ward is dead. The cause of death was something like smoke inhalation, or tuberculosis? Yeah, he was a street kid before he came in. But wouldn't he had been treated if he was sick? There's a lot of articles saying a lot of different things. And you're not so sure you want to go up to Bruce Wayne himself and ask about his dead son. Not something you want to do, or need to do.

But if Damian is Robin, then Bruce Wayne is Batman. There's also Red Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and sometimes there's that Red Hood guy. Does Damian have a sister? You don't know. But if it's a family thing, then Tim and Dick could be two of the three. Obviously not Batgirl, because she's a girl. But that still leaves one name out for a third option. Since Jason's dead and all. What if his death was faked, or something?

"Are you okay?" Mason asked, tearing you thoughts from your head and bringing his voice to your eyes. He seemed to sense there was something wrong, given by the long dead and uncomfortable silence.

"No. My life is a damn soap opera."

*With Damian on the Titans tower**

"Wilkes. I am busy." Damian says clearly into the com link on his gauntlet. Mask off, cape off, both gauntlets off. But he's holding one in his hand and speaking into it while listening to what his friend has to say. Colin wouldn't contact him right now if he didn't need too.

"Are you going to accept my offer now and join? It was expected, and only natural that you'd give in over time." He speaks arrogantly, smirking and squaring out his shoulders. Closing his eyes and walking backwards until he finds his bed, then seating himself down and waiting for Colin to respond.

"I have someone with me," Colin paused, and Damian stiffened up and opened his eyes. Okay, so no calling Colin by his name. Just Abuse. Damian knows he's been talking to someone, and he doesn't know much about it all. But what he does know is he's not so sure of the idea of Colin taking care of things on his own in Gotham. He keeps telling him to go to his father for help, because Batman has the resources. Though Damian knows that his father isn't just going to hand off spare Batmobiles to him just because he's his friend. The type of resources Colin needs is backup when he needs it. And something as small as being able to call someone who isn't Robin when he's not there is pretty safer. Then again, this is also Colin. Someone with the same ability as Bane.

"I'm not going to waste time with this right now, but Leviathan is in Gotham." Colin said, voice as serious as he's probably ever heard Colin speak. So it froze him up, not just his face or his body. He felt like all of the blood in his body had stopped running in his veins, felt like his bones had suddenly went from being bone to being jello. It was like each follicle holding every strand of hair on his body went ice cold and made every strand stand up. With widening eyes and a loosening grip on the gauntlet in his hand, Colin continued.

"When you explained to me how everything with Jason worked out, you told me that somebody had placed a dummy in his coffin." Damian knew what Colin was going to say, he knew where this conversation was going.

"Not my place to say this, but I think you should pay your mother a visit."

A/n:

One of my friends got into some serious trouble with the law right now, and i  was dragged into it too. It wasn't a simple process, some really confusing things happened. And nobody is happy about anything right now. So i haven't been able to update because I'm going in and out of some issues with a friend of mine. So I'm sorry if my updates are short and watered down and just shitty and short. I probably won't update for a while consistently until the matter is resolved, but whenever I can update I will. Also, the very last part that has Damian is meant to be super short.
