Chapter 4
Jungkook had felt a bit anxious when he heard the door pin being pressed.
Last evening he and she talked for the first time. And then she went out with the suitcase to do her work. She hadn't come home the whole night and even during the day. It is now almost ten of the next night.
He had been feeling all sorts of feelings since last night. So many questions. But no answers. But finally the person who could answer has arrived. But what if she doesn't remember what happened last night? What if she thinks he was just a hallucination or something? Even he himself feels like it was a dream. Because what happened was so unreal. A human seeing him, talking to him when he was invisible to human eyes. And also talking so casually to a monster as if she is talking to her neighbor or something.
Well..technically we are roommates so..
Jungkook shook his head at such an absurd thought. No one talks so casually to their roommate demon. Well except for her apparently.
Soon Lily came in her room and plopped down on her bed, staring at the ceiling. She was breathing heavily. She seemed really exhausted. Jungkook doesn't even want to know what she was doing for her to be so exhausted.
She stayed in that position for a while, not moving, not talking, only staring at the ceiling and breathing heavily.
She didn't glance once at the closet or to him. Jungkook sighed. Probably she forgot what happened last night? Forgot about him? Or probably he was making stuff up in his brain to make himself feel good because he was lonely for so long....
"Mr. Closet Monster?"
....or not?
Jungkook looked at her through the gap of the closet doors, unsure about what to say. He was thinking of how to reply and get the conversation flowing.
"Mr. Closet Monster?"
Came get ice cold voice again. Jungkook was about to answer and cleared his throat.
"Jungkook?"
Her calling his name so suddenly gave him chills. Firstly her voice was so cold and secondly how long has it been since someone else called his name? It took him completely off guard. He was so taken aback he couldn't open his mouth for a little bit.
She sighed,"Was I actually so high last night that I imagined a whole damn conversation with a closet monster..."
"I..I'm here."
Jungkook managed to reply. His voice came out low and hoarse. He wasn't sure if she heard it. He looked at her. By the way she finally smirked while looking at the ceiling made him think she actually did hear his voice.
"I wasn't imagining shit then,"She said.
"You weren't."
She smirked and stayed quiet for sometime while staring at the ceiling. Thinking something. Jungkook was confused. If she wasn't going to say something then why did she call him? Was she just making sure that he's real? Jungkook wanted to call her but didn't want to disrupt what she was thinking. So he rested his back against the closet and waited for her to stop thinking.
"Don't you think humans are the worst creatures ever? Worse than monsters?"
Jungkook frowned at her sudden question. He again leaned forward and looked at the gap of the closet door, straight at her who was still staring at the ceiling. Was she talking to him or to herself?
"Are you talking to me?"He asked.
She finally turned away from the ceiling and lied on her side facing the closet, looking straight at him,"Is there anyone else in the room?"
Jungkook felt kind of embarrassed about his stupidity. But the fact that she was talking to casually to him was even more stupid and weird to him.
Seeing him flustered she smirked but wiped it away soon,"So..what do you think? About my question?"
Jungkook tilted his head. She seemed genuinely curious about his answer. No matter how outrageous the situation was he tried to answer her question,"No, I don't think so. Humans are His greatest creation."
She looked amused at his answer,"Wrong."
Jungkook raised his eyebrows.
"For my understanding, you all monsters, devils are created to do only evil, angels are created for doing only good. Then there are humans. Who are a mix of both, evil and good, well...that's what people like to believe. Then why are most people so cruel? Just because they are people and their true nature is being evil. There is really no limit of horrors, crimes, sins they would commit..just because they are people and they can."
She was so serious about it. She believed it. She believed humans' true nature is evil.
"No, it's not like that. A human is created to be right in the middle of good and evil. Which path they choose it their decision. There are devils who come to earth to tempt humans to do more evil than good. Humans give in to that temptation, that's why most people are evil. They make bad choices. Human's true nature isn't evil.."
Why exactly am I talking about these to a crazy human?
How did I even come to this point?
"Devils tempt humans you say.."She said and turned back to the ceiling, thinking.
"Yes, even I was tasked to tempt a human to the path of horrible sins.."
"Then what about me?"She asked, looking right back at him.
"Huh?"
"What about me? Is there a devil tempting me to do all the things I do? To murder, torture, to slaughter?"
Jungkook was once again taken aback. He never saw a devil's aura around her. There was never a Devil tempting her and telling her to commit all the horrible things she does. She does all of it by herself and that is what shocks Jungkook.
She was looking at him, expecting an answer.
"Well..I mean..no but.."
She smirked,"See? I do all that just because I'm a human and I'm evil from the core of my heart. Just like others who are good at hiding behind a mask of kindness and good."
"Yeri, no you are not.."
She looked like she was a bit taken aback by him suddenly calling her by her real name. She quickly masked her shock with an emotionless expression.
"It's Lily."
Jungkook was about to ask her why can't he call her Yeri but before he could, she got up,"I'm gonna go wash up and then sleep. It would be highly appreciated if you don't stare at me in the middle of the night with those bright ass neon red eyes. That's the least you could do for staying here without rent, can't you?"
She stood up straight and looked at him with a slight smirk on her face.
"We're roommates, so let's try to not get on the other's nerve, okay?"
And with that she went into the washroom.
Jungkook couldn't speak. What the actual hell just happened? All of it still feels like a dream.
He always knew she wasn't normal. But she is getting more and more abnormal by the each minute. Did she just have a conversation about how foul humans are with a monster? Can anyone get weirder than that?
And now that she has openly acknowledged his presence, who knows what is in the road ahead.
Oh dear Lord.
Jungkook woke up in amidst of clouds, sitting on a soft cloud in the vast dark blue sky. The city of Seoul looks so beautiful from up here. The tall high rise buildings looked so small. The city was illuminated by the lights from all the buildings, headlights, street lights. People were hard to see from here. But they were also moving around quickly, so busy, so full of life. Their liveliness made the city of Seoul so amazing. Watching Seoul from here was one of Jungkook's favorite past time. He loved it here. The humans here always seemed to be up to something. They all have a purpose to live, something to achieve, somewhere to be. Unlike him..who just exists.
"Still admiring?"He heard a familiar voice from beside him.
Jungkook smiled and nodded. Not even bothering to look beside him because he already knows who it is.
"Oh come on, how long has it been since we've met? Show some interest at least!"
Jungkook chuckled and finally turned to his right, coming face to face with his friend that he wanted to have a chat with for such a long time. The one and only, Seokjin.
"Hyung,"Jungkook called, smiling,"It really has been so long, thank you so much for pulling me out of there, I was suffocating."
"I should've come more often, I know how suffocating that darned closet must've felt, but you know Master has been putting so much work on us."
Jungkook nodded, smiled and took a deep breath. The air is so fresh, so clean, so free. He stretched his arms and legs too while smiling.
"So what's up?"Jungkook asked,"How are you all? How are the other hyungs?"
"We're all hella busy. Being a Devil wasn't ever easy. But everyone misses you so much, everyone's waiting for your return to Hell."
Jungkook smiled sadly,"There's still a long way to go. I don't even have enough power to get out of the closet during the day."
Seokjin face turned sympathetic and sad. He slowly patted Jungkook's pat,"Why? Is there no new tenant? Are they not scared enough of you?"
"That's the issue. The new tenant, Yeri..I mean Lily..is just weird. I wanted to talk to you about her. She..."
"Doesn't believe in demons? Is one of those science nerds? Oh they are the worst! Oh but there is a way.."
"No no, she isn't a science nerd. She is way worse. She..she..is scary."
Seokjin looked confused,"She what?"
Jungkook sighed, knowing how stupid it must've sounded coming from a demon's mouth about a mere human.
"Hyung..listen to me as I don't know what I'm supposed do about her."
Jungkook then proceeded to tell him the whole thing from start to finish. From they day she moved in, her out of ordinary behaviors, how she doesn't get scared, how she hurts other humans, how she can see him even when he isn't visible to human eye, how she just talked to him about how humans are the absolute worst. Jungkook sighed by the end and looked at Seokjin who was focused on him, not sure whether to believe him or not,"I know it all sounds like bullshit but it's all unfortunately true."
"Interesting,"Seokjin said,"Who's the Devil in charge of her? He sure as hell would get a promotion.."
"There's no devil with her,"Jungkook said,"She does all that shit by herself."
Seokjin frowned. Jungkook knows this look. Seokjin isn't necessarily believing this.
"Hyung..trust me. There is no devil with her,"Jungkook said,"That's why I'm this shocked and concerned. This girl is fucking up all of my beliefs about humans. Hyung I want to stop her shenanigans, but I don't know how.."
Seokjin was deep in thought,"You are completely sure, aren't you?"
"Yeah hyung..now do you understand what type of pickle I'm in? I want to stop her but as a demon can I even do that? Help me hyung!"
Seokjin wasn't looking at Jungkook nor was he listening anymore. He was deep in thought. He was thinking while Jungkook was ranting about his frustration.
"And why would she even see me? And talk to me as if I were her damn neighbor? Is she not afraid of anything? Well..of course she isn't afraid of the afterlife taking into consideration what kind of shit she does...ahhh..what should I even do about her.."
"Jungkook."
Jungkook stopped mid speech and looked at Seokjin,"Yeah?"
Seokjin suddenly snapped his fingers and smirked as an idea hit his head.
Jungkook stopped mid speech,"Hyung?"
Seokjin looked at him,"Jungkook, she can be your key to come back to your actual position, your way back to hell!"
Jungkook frowned,"Say what?"
Seokjin held his shoulder and said,"You should be thankful that lord sent this girl your way."
"Hyung..hyung..I don't understand what you're trying to say."
Seokjin looked at him with the biggest smirk and said," Make a bond with her."
Jungkook widened his eyes and quickly removed Seokjin's hands from his shoulders,"Hyung! What are you even saying? You know I would never do that. And her soul is already rotten as fuck.."
"That's the whole point. You won't have to go out of your way to make her commit any sin. You can stick your ground and her sins will bring you back to hell. Your home. Profitable for both of you! All you need to do is convince her to sell her sou.."
"Hyung no. Never."
"Jungkook, I know how adamant you are but in this case you won't even have to tempt her. I don't know what's stopping you!"
"She, she is stopping me! I told you I feel scared around her. She is not ordinary! Have you ever heard of a human like her? And...this whole deal thing never sat right with me. This just seems awful."
"Jungkook-ah, this might be your only way to come back home. Do you not wanna come back? Don't you even miss us? Do you enjoy being in a fucking close.."
"Hyung no that's not it. I just want to stop her..she is killing people for who knows what reason...her soul is complete dark. I can't.."
"Yes exactly, her soul is dark. Hence you don't even need to feel bad. She is already a goner. She would enter hell even if you don't do anything."
"I know that but.."
Seokjin sighed at Jungkook. He never liked Jungkook's high morals especially because he was born as a devil who is supposed to have no morals whatsoever.
"Jungkook, you don't have to decide right now. Just give it a thought. You can't do that for me, right?"
Jungkook stopped whatever he was going to say and nodded,"I will give it a thought."
He lied. He is not going to make a bond with Lily. He can't. It just seems wrong. He would have to think about what to do about her by himself. For now all he can do is calm Seokjin down.
"I will think about it."
"Good boy,"Seokjin smiled and ruffled his hair. Jungkook also smiled.
"I have to go back but I don't want to,"Seokjin said sadly.
"It's okay hyung. I will be fine.."
Will I?
Seokjin sighed,"No, I will stay for a little longer. Watch the scenery with you."
"Hyung you'll get in trouble."
"It's okay to get in trouble once in awhile,"Seokjin smiles and looked down from the cloud at the humans,"We are devils after all. We are bound to cause trouble."
Jungkook smiled and looked down from the cloud at the beautiful city of Seoul, the busy humans, doing their thing. Everyone is so different from the other. They approach a situation so differently. Looks like on a street there was an accident just now. Some were trying to call for help, some were taking pictures for social media, some just walked away and some cried immediately at the pain of others. It's always so amusing to see their different reactions to things. Jungkook could watch this all day.
"There really is no greater show on earth than observing human nature,"Seokjin said while looking down.
Jungkook nodded. At a point of time his mind drifted from the humans down there to the human he lives with. He was thinking about the conversation he just had with Seokjin. Making a bond with her would grant him so much freedom and serve as the key to his return to his home. But how can he do that, especially when his intention was to stop her?
Jungkook sighed while looking at the other humans.
Why couldn't his roommate be a normal human?
Make a bond with that girl?
Never.
