Chapter 14
Doyoung had been woken up in the middle of the night violently by what he thought was an assassin attack, was made to sit down on his cough and was currently facing the source of his every annoyance Lily, her devil partner and a random child with a random cat. The child was as confused as he was, Jungkook looked like he was in an internal conflict, Lily had that face on that she normally has after doing something big and the kitty seemed like the most peaceful one in the bunch.
To say that Doyoung was shocked by what Lily said would be an understatement.
"So let me get this straight.."Doyoung said,"You want me to take care of this random kid and this random cat that I don't even know for God knows how long?"
"Exactly,"Lily said as if picking up a random boy off of street and bringing him here is the most normal thing in this universe.
"Lily,"Doyoung sighed while rubbing his temple, already feeling the headache that's about to occur,"Did you kidnap this kid?"
"No, I came willingly,"The kid said in a small voice.
"Oh,"Doyoung looked at Lily,"Can you normalize giving contexts? Why is he in my house? Why did you break in to my house at 3 fucking am? Why did you throw me off my bed-"
"I didn't break in to your house, you yourself gave me your password and if I didn't throw you off the bed you wouldn't ever get the fuck up,"Lily explained.
Doyoung sighed,"Lily, is this your new way of annoying me?"
Lily shook her head,"I'm just asking for a teeny bit favor. Just keep the damn kid with you till a good facility is found for the kid. Your house is goddamn huge. I'm sure you wouldn't mind having a little bit of your space taken..and also don't you always complain about being lonely in this huge house so I'm helping you."
"So thoughtful of you, Lily,"Doyoung said sarcastically.
"Anyway, Take care of him, Doyoung for me. Having this kid around me isn't safe for the kid,"Lily said,"I will be off now. Jungkook Let's go.."
"No, it's fucking three in the morning. It's dangerous out..stay here tonight.."Doyoung regretted saying those words as soon as they left his mouth.
The corner of Lily's mouth twitched up,"You're worried that I might be in danger?"
Doyoung sighed,"Just pick a room and stay tonight, I don't think you're in your right state of mind tonight. Jungkook can stay too. And about the kid.."Doyoung gave up,"I will see what I can do."
"You better,"Lily said and got up,"Damn, I need a beer."
Lily got up, went to the refrigerator to help herself with a can of beer and then proceeded to disappear in somewhere in Doyoung's duplex.
As soon as she left Doyoung looked at the kid and smiled,"What's your name kid?"
"Kim Gaeul."
"How old are you?"
"Nine."
Doyoung nodded,"Where are your parents?"
Gaeul stopped talking. Doyoung instantly understood that it was a touchy subject so he instantly changed the topic,"Gaeul-ah? You won't mind living a few days with me right? I'm not a bad guy,"Doyoung smiled, trying not to confuse or traumatize the kid any further.
Gaeul slowly nodded.
"Good boy, now come with me, I will show you the room you will be staying in. And you seem to need a shower. I will teach you how to turn on the hot water in the shower, come on!"
Gaeul nodded and followed Doyoung into the room. Gaeul was awestruck by the fancy shower, big room everything, lights everything. Doyoung smiled at the little kid's awe.
"Woah, I've never seen these. Woah! This bed is huge! I never thought I would get to sleep in a bed so huge! Thank you hyung!"Gaeul bowed ninety degrees showing Doyoung so much respect. While Gaeul was bowing is when Doyoung noticed the trail of scars on Gaeul's body. It didn't need much thinking for him to understand what might've caused those scars. He was no stranger to those.
As Gaeul rose up, Doyoung finally fully noticed his face properly. The almost identical big dreamy eyes, bright smile, squishy cheeks, deep dimples. Doyoung frowned. He looks so similar. Or is it his eyes mistaking?
After Gaeul had gone to the shower, Doyoung waited for him to come out. After Gaeul came out, Doyoung handed Gaeul the smallest set of clothes Doyoung could find in the house, they were still obviously too big for Gaeul. Then Doyoung took Gaeul to the kitchen and fixed him a little bit of food. Doyoung didn't have much groceries so he couldn't cook something amazing. He promised Gaeul that he would feed Gaeul something better tomorrow. Seeing Gaeul eat so gratefully warmed up Doyoung's heart. He even fed the kitty. Jungkook or Lily weren't anywhere to be found in the living room. Doyoung wasn't honestly in the mood to talking to them anyway but talking to Jungkook would give him a better idea about the situation. He figured he would talk to them in the morning. Then he tucked Gaeul to bed and made sure he was okay sleeping alone. Gaeul wasn't okay first, he kept holding Doyoung's hand and having bad flashbacks about his father. But soon he fell asleep.
That's when Doyoung walked in to his own room, trying to make sure that he wasn't mistaking anything. He had to make sure what he is thinking isn't wrong and his memories aren't betraying him. He walked into his closet and searched for the drawer he kept all his old junk in. He found a small cardboard box there. Just what he was looking for!
He opened it while sitting on the floor and keeping it in front of him. The cardboard box was filled with the only few precious things he had from his childhood. Toys, letters, diaries and most importantly pictures. In the very bottom of the cardboard box he finally found the picture he was looking for. It was a very old picture taken by a cheap ass camera.
On the other hand Jungkook had searched for Lily almost everywhere. Doyoung's house is so big, honestly it's hard to find someone here. Jungkook wonders if Doyoung lives in such a fancy ass house why does Lily live in such a crappy house infested with a closet monster? She could live lavishly like this if she wanted, couldn't she?
Jungkook found Lily smoking a cigarette in one of the balconies of the house looking at the scenery deep in thought. The breeze was toying with her hair, her pale cheeks were rosier than usual for being a little bit tipsy. Jungkook came and stood beside her holding the railing. He had a lot of questions to ask her. He was still shocked and confused by what Lily did. He was confused about this whole Gaeul situation. Was she trying to do a good deed? But this isn't a way to do so. She could've done so many things other than this to help Gaeul. She didn't need to murder his dad, that too by Gaeul's decisions. He is a child, he doesn't understand anything. He surely doesn't understand what he did and what weight his words held. He surely doesn't know what Lily meant when she said his dad would 'disappear'.
"If you're here to lecture me, stop. I'm not in the mood,"Lily was the one who cut through the heavy silence.
Jungkook sighed,"Lily, what did you just do? Why did you just do that? It's so unlike you.."
"Stop Jungkook."
"Do you realize how irrational you were? Do you realize you traumatized the kid for the rest of his life? That he would have to bear the weight of his father's death on his shoulders?"
"Stop."
"No, I just don't understand why you did that? Is that your way of doing something good for someone? Cause Lily murdering their dad isn't the way to go about to.."
"Jungkook, I'm warning you.."
"I know Lily that you probably wanted to help him.."
"No I didn't."
"Yes, you fucking did. How else do you explain what you did?"
"I don't fucking know, Jungkook. I don't either. I don't know what came over me, I don't know. I'm confused as well. This is the first time this has ever happened to me. I'm not the person to put my nose in someone else's business..I just don't know!"Lily burst out.
"Lily-ah.."
"I've been thinking about why I did that. I don't think I was in my right state of mind for the last couple of days. I don't care about that kid..I don't care about anything..I just don't know. And the last thing I need is for you to lecture me on what's right and what's wrong now.."
Jungkook sighed and slowly raised his hand to pat her back to help her calm down. It seemed to work a little,"Lily, why don't you think that it might actually be because you actually cared for Gaeul? Because you felt hurt seeing him treated like that? It hurt your heart too.."
"No.."
"Why don't you think of the possibility of you still having human emotions left?"
Lily held his hand and removed it from her shoulder roughly. She didn't seem amused by that question,"That's not possible, Jungkook."
"You're just in denial, Lily. Why is it so hard to accept that you are a human too and have human feelings hidden deep inside. How else would you explain.."
"Stop.."
"You always pretend like you have no sort of humanity in you..that you are the cruelest person in the planet but deep down you also know that's not the truth, Lily. I also believe so."
"Jungkook, can you please stop?"
"Lily, remember the time I told you that I believe that you are a good person? I still believe so. It's just your way of doing good things in a bad way is wrong."
Lily turned to Jungkook, eyes colder than ice. Sending a shiver down his spine.
"You really think I'm a good person? You really think I have humanity in me? Well, your thinking is about to change real quick, Jungkook."
Jungkook looked at her curiously. Lily dropped the cigarette from her hand and said the next sentence in a bone chilling voice that shook Jungkook to his core.
"I murdered my mother, that loved me with all her life at the age of twelve, purposefully."
Jungkook widened his eyes at the revelation of this new information from her past. He could not hide his expression.
Lily smirked at his change of expression. For once her smirk didn't seem evil or playful. It seemed sad? Or was he mistaken?
"Do you still believe I'm a good person, Jungkook?"
Jungkook couldn't utter a single word.
"Thought so,"Lily said and turned back to the scenery ahead of us. For a moment Jungkook could swear he saw her eyes sparkling with tears. But she dried them in her eyes before they could fall.
Or was he mistaken?
Meanwhile Doyoung was sitting on the floor of his walk in closet with the cardboard box in front of him. He cautiously opened it. The cardboard box was filled with the only few precious things he had from his childhood. Toys, letters, diaries and most importantly pictures. In the very bottom of the cardboard box he finally found the picture he was looking for. It was a very old picture taken by a cheap ass camera.
Even though the picture was old and rusty the smiles of the people in the picture were pure, full of happiness. It was taken during they were playing in a park, one of the only few moments they could forget about their pain and chaos of their lives.
There were three people in this picture. A nine year old Doyoung, a nine year old Lily standing side by side with bright smiles on their faces showing peace signs to the camera. Oh, when was the last time Doyoung saw Lily smile like that?
Doyoung's eyes soon fell on the smaller five year old kid standing in the middle of Doyoung and Lily. Displaying a bright smile with his dimples on full display, big eyes full of dreams and hopes and pale skin.
So similar to Gaeul!
Doyoung's hunch wasn't wrong. He finally understands that Lily wasn't purposefully trying to annoy him, wasn't pulling a prank. She did this for a reason unknowingly.
Doyoung smiled. A sudden wave of happiness hit him. He finally feels like his best friend isn't completely gone. The nine year old smiling girl in this picture is hiding somewhere in the present Lily. She isn't that completely emotionless monster as she portrays herself to be.
There's still humanity left in her.
And there's only one person in this world that can bring it out.
Doyoung has to get in contact with him.
