Chapter 1
Darkness.
It was all that surrounded him. He was trapped in a decent sized wooden cube made for years on years. Closet. It was a closet. This closet of a beaten down, old, small apartment in the shadiest and most unsafe part of the city was his home. He kept the closet door ajar oh so slightly so a small portion of light could come in the endless pit hole of darkness he was trapped in. From there he could see the empty room the closet was in. This is just what his vision and life was limited to. Well..unless a new tenant decided to move in. Till then this closet was all he had, to be in , to call his home, for how long no one knows.
He, Jungkook, was a closet monster.
A demon that lived in your closet. A closet monster is what kids, even from every generation was scared off. If you have a closet in your home, you cannot help but sometime feel like there is a monster inside that would come alone at night and kill you in the most painful way. Sometimes it might be you being paranoid and sometimes there might actually closet monsters inside your own closet and waiting for a time to attack while you sleep unsuspecting of anything. Most parents and older people try to convince kids that closet monsters are far from reality and the noise they hear at night from inside their closet are nothing but noise created by rats. But little do they know that closet monsters are very real, very hungry and very greedy. They might even replace your child whom you convinced monsters don't exist and you won't even know. Do you want to know what they do to your actual kid? Oh...you better not know. They might even scar and traumatize a full grown adult for the rest of their life.
Even though closet monsters are a common fear a lot people, especially children have, they are actually the lowest level of demons. They are stuffed in an enclosed, uncomfortable space, their freedom depends on people's belief and fear. They cannot do anything freely. Their closet is their only playground.
Jungkook wasn't always like this. He was stripped down from his previous position, away from hell and sent into this closet in the earth and among the humans 'he loves so much'. Since then he has been living here as a closet monster, scaring every tenant of the apartment just to gain a little bit power, to get out of this torture that seemingly is going forever.
Not all closet monsters are bad though, he isn't. At least he believes so. He isn't as extreme as the other ones. He has never gone overboard while scaring humans that lived here. At least he thinks so. But still the rumor of this house being haunted, spread like wildfire and it's been almost a year since the last tenant moved out. Still no other tenant. A lot of people come to see the place to potentially rent it, but they get creeps when they see the closet he lives in. They end up not moving in.
Jungkook is now desperate. He hasn't been out of this closet for a whole year. Everyday he hopes that someone would start living here. He wants to be out of this cube. He wants to see the outside world. He would do anything for it this time. If he needs to scare the living shit out of the new tenant and scar them for their whole damn life, he would do so. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Just before Jungkook was about to lose all hope, one morning he heard the sound of the front door opening. He soon heard the old, sleazy voice of the building owner. The sly, short balding man in his forties only uses this voice when he is showing new possible tenants this house. Just to finesse his way into signing the lease. The moment they start living there, his real face starts showing. He doesn't care about how damaged the house is, doesn't care how awful the living condition is, he wouldn't do anything to fix any of the tenant's problem. When they try to talk to him about the problems and inconveniences he is completely a different person.
Humans are so hypocritical sometimes!
Jungkook was again starting to hope that whoever the person is, they start living here. Please. He might go insane if they don't.
This house is obviously not amazing. In no way. It is situated in a bad neighborhood of the huge city of Seoul. Here people live to hide from the outside world. Either they are a predator or someone's prey. Jungkook wonders which category would this new tenant fall in?
The house only has a living and dinning area outside this room. There is also a small kitchen. Footsteps in the living room can easily be heard from the closet. Aside from the old landlord's familiar heavy footsteps, Jungkook could hear smaller, lighter footsteps. Jungkook could also smell some intense flowery scents. Flowers that are normally not commonly used in fragrances. Jungkook can't pinpoint exactly what this scent is. Normally he is insanely good with identifying scents. But this time it seems a bit tricky. Jasmine and.. a mix of tuberose..is his best guess. Probably also a little bit of honeysuckle?
Given the lighter footsteps and the intense scent of feminine perfume, Jungkook could come to the conclusion that the new possible tenant was a female. Jungkook could hear the landlord continuously blabbering about the few good points of this house. He didn't forget to emphasize on the fact that this house would enable her to live a private life and others would respect her privacy. Which is not wrong. No one in this building or neighborhood is concerned about the others. No matter what the others might be up to. They all have their own things to worry about.
In all this time Jungkook hasn't heard her say a single thing. Jungkook wants to see her face. Figure out more about her. Jungkook doesn't know whether because of his inability to identify the scent or because he hopes that she starts staying here immediately.
After what seemed like forever the door of the bedroom flung open and the landlord entered. Jungkook quickly hid further in the closet and kept an eye out for them from the gap of the closet doors. He could clearly see the bedroom entrance from here. He was really expectant. A feeling he hasn't felt in so long.
Jungkook held his breath. Finally she followed the landlord in. She was dressed head to toe in black. Big black hoodie, black sweats, black cap and a black mask covering half of her face. Jungkook was a bit disappointed when he saw the mask. He couldn't see her face, couldn't read her expression. She quickly walked towards the windows of the room to look out. Probably to figure out if the neighborhood once again and to figure out if she would actually get the privacy the landlord was promising. After she inspected the outside, she came back in Jungkook's view and stood in front of the landlord. He was continuing to describe how amazing and cheap this house is. She honestly looked like she couldn't care less about what he was saying. She looked up at the ceiling and then looked around at the walls. While doing so she slowly pulled her black mask down. Jungkook could finally see her pale face. She was beautiful. Almost like a sculpture. Her jawline was sharp, her cheeks were rosy, lips were full. Everything a woman could wish for. Her raven long hair cupped her face beautifully. Jungkook doesn't remember the last time he saw someone so beautiful.
But Jungkook couldn't shake off a bad feeling. There was something off about her. Her whole demeanor. They way she looked around, moved..everything was a bit off. Jungkook couldn't pinpoint why he felt that way.
While looking around her eyes suddenly fell on the closet. Jungkook quickly hid further behind. He knew she couldn't see him but he couldn't take any more risks. Normally this was time when possible tenants say they would 'think' about getting the house as the closet gave the wrong vibes. It's not Jungkook's fault that he gives off a wrong vibe to humans. It's normal for someone humans to feel wrong when a supernatural being is around.
No matter how much he tried to hide, her eyes instantly fell on his. His heart skipped a beat when she did that. She wasn't supposed to see him. He is invisible to human eyes right now. But it looked like she was staring right at his eyes. Staring right through his soul.
What was happening? What was she looking at? Why was she silently staring at the closet? At him?
Jungkook could get a clear view of her eyes. Her eyes were as black as the pitch black darkness of the closet Jungkook lived in. Probably even more than that. Eyes were said to be the entrance to soul. Her eyes were an entrance to a void of darkness, black, nothingness, everything Jungkook despised. He couldn't read anything about her, anything she was thinking, her eyes or face didn't give anything away. She was thinking something while looking at the closet, but Jungkook couldn't figure out what.
He knows humans were supposed to feel a bad vibe about supernatural being, but today he, a supernatural being got a very very bad vibe from this girl.
The landlord also noticed her staring at the closet, and he knows this is when he loses possible tenants. So he tried to stop that from happening this time. He started about how this spacious closet was made of wood and how much storage it has.
She didn't look like she was listening to any of it. But seeing her not reply to anything, the landlord felt anxious. He talked about the rumors surrounding this closet and how they are made up from the previous tenants creative minds when they were high on weed, further away from real world.
Jungkook couldn't figure out why she was staring so intensely at the closet and right at him. There's no way she can see him. What was she even looking at? But the way her eyes were right on his, made this whole situation so eerie.
At one point, the corner of her lips slowly turned up, forming a small, noticeable smirk. She was smirking staring right at Jungkook. And finally said,"I'll take it."
The way she smirked out of the blue staring at him, her voice, everything sent a shiver down Jungkook's spine. Her voice sounded so icy, so eerie.
Obviously her talking suddenly took the landlord off guard. He had stopped his rant about the previous tenants rumors and how disappointed he was and looked at her,"Did you just say that you would take it?"
She nodded slowly.
The landlord was visibly happy and relieved,"I have all the documentation ready. Why don't you come to my house, we will go through the papers and have some tea?"
The landlord quickly exited the bedroom. She looked at Jungkook aka the closet one more time, smirked, pulled her mask up and followed the landlord. As if she was challenging him, mocking him. But Jungkook knew she couldn't see him.
Jungkook sighed in relief when she got out saying she will take the house. He will finally have someone to scare and get some freedom from this closet.
He had bad feelings about her. She seemed off and weird. But no matter how off and weird she was, in the end she was a small, defenseless girl who will he living alone. He could scare her easily.
For now he decided to shake off the bad and negative feelings and assumptions, to focus on the good things. He would finally be able to be out of this damned closet after so so long. That is worth celebrating.
But somewhere deep inside Jungkook's heart he had a hunch that something very wrong and big is going to happen in the near future surrounding this girl.
And that hunch was right.
Oh only if Jungkook knew how much of a wild ride Jungkook was in for!
