(3) Duly Noted
"Audrey! Audrey!"
The voice was faint, sort of echo-ish. But I immediately recognized it as Lauren's.
"L-Lauren?" I slowly mumbled, shifting in bed. Wait, bed? How did I get in a bed? I turn my head, and try sitting up. Pain immediately shoots though my skull. OH OW. OW OW OW .NOPE, NOPE. Let's not do that again. I moan, and fall back.
"No. no. Lay down. You'll hurt yourself more." Lauren's voice commands, stroking my hair back gently.
"Why does it hurt? I just inhaled like an ocean of bleach. It should be a headache, not physical pain..." I say, groaning, feeling like all my bones have been mashed into pieces. Almost like I stepped on a sea of legos.
"David mentioned that you blacked out, and that you hit yourself pretty hard on a bookshelf. " Lauren replies, going for a damp cloth to relieve my headache.
Suddenly, it all flashes back. The murder, the attack, the murderer's purple eyes, the insane knee burn, everything... I grab my head with my hands, as a wave of pain washes over me.
This is an unbearable migraine.
"A-Ada." I softly whisper, with tears in my eyes. "Lauren, Ada...she.."
Lauren nods."I know, she got attacked pretty badly. She hasn't woken up."
I stare at Lauren. And here I thought I was the one hallucinating and stuff. I give Lauren my What in the moly frijoles and pineapple trees are you talking about?
Lauren saw my look of confusion(which I give her quite often) and smirked a little. "Ada is alive. She has extremely serious wounds, and she may not survive tonight, but she's breathing."
I fall back on pillows with a sigh of relief. She's alive. She may not live until tomorrow, but where there's life, there's hope, right?
All of a sudden, the door opens with a BAM, and a pale, disheveled looking David barges in.
"AUDREY, ARE YOU OK?!?!? DOES YOUR HEAD HURT? YOU LOOK DEAD!!! ARE YOU DEAD????" He asks, yelling at the top of his lungs.
My head gets tighter and tighter with every scream David lets out. I feel another giant migraine coming on, and I look to Lauren to save me.
"David." She sternly says. " Audrey has extreme headaches, and she feels really light headed. Maybe that would get better if you didn't come in screaming like a howling banshee. Now leave the room and I will come later to give you an update, or I will kick your wimpy butt out of this room. Understood?"
David and I exchange surprised glances. Oooookkkk... this is new. Lauren is really serious and silent, and she thinks David is weird but I have NEVER known her to snap so badly at someone. Her tone and look are on the border of strangling David.
David can be really loud, but I don't want him to die.
Go I mouth silently, and David leaves, with a confused and scared look on his face.
"Seriously," Lauren mutters. "I don't know how you can stand him." I laugh a little, and then give Lauren a look.
"David is really loud sometimes, but he's a good friend. He's really smart too."
"Maybe it would be better if he had a little more sense in his head rather than all that genius."
I close my eyes, feeling tired. Lauren is weird, sometimes.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's been three days.
THREE DAYS IN THE HOSPITAL.
I feel like I'm about to go insane. I have been stuck in bed doing NOTHING, and I'm just about to lose it.
David has been trying to use this time to convince me to do some history reading. LIKE THAT'S EVER GONNA HAPPEN. And Lauren is ever worse as she's been trying to get me to do some homework or a worksheet.History reading and homework.
Over my dead body.
It's about early noon, the sun shining through my hospital room window. Just as I'm about to rip my hair out from sheer boredom...I hear a knock on the door. Weird. Lauren never knock- much less David, and visiting hours are over.
Ok Audrey, I think to myself as I get up from my bed. Honestly I'm wondering why I'm still in the hospital anyways. I feel fine but Lauren never lets me get up from bed if she can help it. Just open the door and hope that a knife isn't waiting there to greet you.
I take a deep breath, with an anxious feeling in my stomach. Walking up to the door, I count to three before getting ready to open it. Ok, 1...2...3!!!
"HEY!" I yell, yanking the door open. Strangely enough, no one is there. The halls are empty, and nothing is there.
Except a note on the floor.
"This is too movie-ish." I grumble as I pick the note up. This is way too cliche. Murderer dressed in black, and now a note. What's gonna be next, a long lost rich uncle? Although... come to think of it... that wouldn't be too bad.
Closing the door, I turn the note over in my hands. I am completely perplexed on what this is. Only way to find out is to open it then, my mind states. I open the note, noticing that it is written in a neat, formal way- the handwriting itself screams 'written by a female.' The mysteries just keep coming. After examining it, I begin to read,
Audrey Larkson,
Ada here. I finally pulled up enough strength to write this note. Excuse if it messy. I need to talk to you with UTMOST urgency- please meet me tomorrow morning in my hospital room. Do not discuss this note with anyone. The reason you are being called is of extreme secrecy and no one must know. Got that? NO. ONE. Hope you can make it!
Sincerely,
Meekerson, A.
Ok, I am officially ALL CONFUSION. What in the world is going on? Closing the note, I hear a slight click. Then...
This message will self destruct in 5 seconds.
