Zodiacturner;; NightWing OC

AUTHOR'S NOTE;;
I'm honestly so amazed this book hasn't been only NightWings smh.
Anyway, I'm thrilled to introduce the next OC in this glamorous book, owned by the lovely Zodiacturner! Hah, nice username there - isn't it great when your OC's name isn't taken?
*Oapha screech*
So without further ado, let's jump right into this one. Bon voyage, kids.
- Siri Mom.

--

BASIC INFO;;
------ Name: Zodiacturner (Zodi).
Ahh the name "Zodi" brings back memories. I used to have an old character named Zodiac with the same nickname. Random trivia.

------ Name Backstory Definition Thingo: Her mother wanted to name her "Darkscales" but her father decided that was too boring. He'd always wanted one of his kids to grow up and do something related to stars, so he suggested Zodiacturner. Meaning that she's the one to turn the zodiac signs (is this understandable or am I being too confusing?).
No, the only confusing thing here is me trying to come up with a good name. I'm very glad you provided a reason for her name; in fact, I'll let you off.

------ Age: 14 human years (pls don't yell at me).
My child sssssh. Ssssssssh. You are allowed to have a young OC. I still love you very very much.
The only thing I'm thinking about here is "human years".
EVERYONE GETS THIS SO CONFUSED.
A "human year" refers to 365 days. I am 15 human years old.
A "dragon year" is basically a year of maturity for a dragon. And really, it's kinda pointless, since for a large amount of the time Pyrrhian dragons seem to mature in exactly the same way as humans.
Consider hatching and sitting in the egg the first "year". By the time they hatch, they're toddlers.
At 1 year they're basically 9-year-olds in terms of maturity (Anemone was this age during The Lost Heir).
At 3 years they're little dragon 12-year-olds.
And so on.
At 7 years they are officially adults. So, let's make that 18 in terms of maturity.
At 20-40 years, they're still adults.
From what I've seen, it's possible for a dragon to live up to a century. Which means that, like humans, they'll be getting pretty grizzly at 75 years.
At 100 years they're basically your everyday senior citizen.
So really, adding "human years" is irrelevant. If you want your dragon to be 14 in terms of maturity, I'd consider making her 4 years old. It saves confusion.
However, if you're talking 14 human years - as in, 14 sets of 12 months/365 days, leap years exempted because I'm too tired to math - she'd be an adult in terms of maturity.
But no, I'm not angry with you for making your dragon 14. Siri Mom is not that aggressive. Siri Mom is still your mom.

------ Gender: Female.
Can relate.

------ Sexuality: Pansexual.
Oooooo, nice.

------ Tribe: Pure NightWing, 100% not a hybrid (are you proud).
I am very proud.

------ Abilities: Fire breath. That's it. Not an animus, and no NightWing powers (aRe yOu pRoUd).
Three moons, am I really that ferocious?
But yes I am very very proud of you for this.

------ Relationship Status: Well, she likes Stormbound (another NightWing) and he likes her, but they're not technically "dating".
Oooooooooooooooo.

------ Occupation: Currently none, seeing that she is a teen, but she wants to be an astrologist when she's older (I have two NightWing astrologist OCs is that bad).
Astrologists/Astrologers (I have no idea, I've heard both) are hecking cool. If the idea wasn't taken I'd have like 50.
But nope, you got there first. So instead, everyone I own is a pirate.
I like that you've acknowledged that she can't work now, but also included what she will do. Very thoughtful.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION;;
------ Scale Color: Very rich midnight blue (not brighter than other NightWings, but it's a very saturated deep blue color).
Colour colour colour colour colour colour colour. The spelling. Is eating. At my soul.
I've seen a lotta art of her, so it isn't difficult for me to picture this colour. Very pretty.

------ Eye Color: Deep blue brighter than her scales.
I don't think blue's a natural NightWing eye colour, but I'll let it slide, because it goes with her colour scheme.

------ Horn Color: Blueish-silver, darker than her belly.
So this "color" didn't come up with a squiggly red line? Maybe my autocorrect (or my soul) is just too dead inside. America, this is your fault. #FixThisObama

------ Belly Color: Silver with a bluish tint.
Everything is blue,
Her scales,
Her hands, her genes,
My page is covered in red squiggles that are haunting my dreams.

------ Wing Color: Imagine a night sky that is very blue colored with millions of stars. That's Zodi's wing color. She has more star-scales than most NightWings do, probably 3x the average amount.
Oooooo, shiny!

------ Build: She's kind of chubby but she doesn't really care, she claims it makes her "squishy".
Chubby chubby CHUB CHUB CHUB !
This is so cute. Also makes a pleasant change to the norm, so congratulations!

------ Height: Shorter than the average NightWing (but I'm short too pls don't kill me).
I'm here to kill the "I'm short but also slim and great in combat" and the "I'm tall and moody and emo" characters.
No, that's a bad joke.
I'm not going to go all angry over that. Don't worry. You are safe.

------ Other Notable Details: She wears a spiral-shaped abalone amulet on a beaded gold chain. Shadowstep (her best friend) found it and gave it to her. She originally yelled at him and wanted him to return it, but he said he found it sitting in the dirt outside the NightWing village, probably showing that someone left it there on purpose.
Or someone dropped it. Silly Shadowstep.
But this is really cute. I love the detail!

PERSONALITY;;
------ Strengths: Zodi is very kind-hearted and willing to help almost anyone.
Very common fandom trait that is incredibly rare in the canon but almost never used correctly in the fandom anyway. Pass.

She is very loyal once she gets to know you, and will do anything to protect her friends (however this isn't much, seeing as how her fighting skills are nonexistent).
At least she doesn't win the fights.

If she ever accidentally hurts someone she will automatically try to help them and feel really guilty when they get mad at her.
This dragon and I share some very similar traits.

------ Flaws: Zodi has 0 fighting skills, as stated above, and doesn't know how to deal with fights and arguments.
So many Pyrrhians are the ultimate expert fighter, so this makes for a very pleasant change. Great job!

She is very clingy, which some dragons absolutely HATE, seeing as how if she is spooked she will cling to the friend closest to her for at least 5 minutes. Zodi is very sensitive to everything and absolutely HATES criticism. She also cries very easily and is very embarrassed when others tease her for it.
Awwwww, she's so adorable!
I'm seeing splashes of myself in her. I'm also seeing a very strong sense of characterisation, and a very clear personality. You seem to know exactly what you want to do with her, and you've done it well. Congratulations!

BACKSTORY;;
Zodi's egg was laid and hatched in the rainforest. There were two eggs in the clutch: one was herself, and the other was her brother.
*nods*

Her parents are Starryswirl and Undaunted of the NightWings. They love each other dearly, and have had a clutch before. Only one of the three eggs hatched, and they named him Graywing for his lighter-colored wings.
What a charming little family! They sound lovely.

Zodi and her brother's eggs were kept in a mossy hollow between two waterfalls. Each night, the waterfalls reflected the moonlight, and their parents were hoping the two hatchlings would receive powers. But they didn't.
This detail is wonderful, and flows very smoothly. As far as I'm aware, the recent NightWings don't even remember how moonlight instills powers. But this is really a minor detail.

Zodi and her brother hatched under two new moons. Zodi was hatched a normal NightWing, with a dark-blue tint. Her brother, Runetwister, was a white NightWing. Her parents' theory is that, because of the new moons, Zodi sucked all of the color out of Runetwister. This left him as a white NightWing with strange black markings all over him. His wings were black with white patterns. (Please note that Runetwister is not my OC, he is owned by darkfirespower).
Noted and accepted! Having your OCs relate to other people's is always enjoyable; it's a great way to extend friendships, and also a ton of fun to roleplay.
As far as I know, the only way a dragonet could consume a sibling's traits is if they shared an egg (twin eggs are very possible); however, I'm happy to let you use the moons as an excuse for this).

Runetwister was a sort of sub-animus: he could cast spells, but they were illusions. If you tried to touch a cup that he enchanted to appear, your talon would pass right through it.
Interesting concept! I've never heard of that before.

Zodi was never jealous of her brother's powers; she had said many times that she never wanted any powers ever (including mind-reading, future seeing, and animus powers). Runetwister once tried to give her cat ears, whiskers, nose, and tail, but of course it didn't last long. However, Zodi has never forgiven him for it (it caused her a great deal of embarrassment).
Nawwwwwwwwwwwww. Wish I'd been there to see that.

As a dragonet, Zodi was very confused about everything. How does math work? What are SeaWings? Is there only one continent? How does math work? Why are there three moons? How does math work?
Honestly, I'm still at that stage.

Eventually she asked herself the question: Do I only like guys?
That stage too.

She discovered she was pansexual, and her parents accepted her. Her brother had been very gay from since he was born, so she knew her parents wouldn't mind.
Awwww, a happy story!

She developed a crush on her friend Bloodrose, another dragoness. When she found out Bloodrose didn't like her in that way, she was heartbroken. Her friends Shadowstep and Stormbound comforted her. Eventually, she started to grow fond of Stormbound, and he liked her back. (Yikes this is really cliche omg I'm fixing it soon don't worry).
Hey hey hey sssh this is okay. It suits her personality and it's actually really sweet. I also love your mention of unrequited love; it does happen! It's good that you've included it, and her reaction matches her personality beautifully.

[Below is some disgusting cliche stuff that I am 100% scrapping but I'm putting it here anyways because why not.]
Aw my child, don't doubt yourself! I'm sure it's great.

When she was 4 years old, she and Stormbound flew to the Sky Kingdom (they were bored and had nothing to do). There they met Rusty, a young SkyWing, who was initially friends with Zodi, but ended up almost killing her and therefore destroying their friendship. (I made this up over a year ago I feel so bad about it it's so cringey omg).
This is a bit... much.
It could still work, though - especially as a defining moment for Zodi, and a bonding moment between her and Stormbound. You just need to think for a bit about how it influenced her character. I know I talk about this a lot, but it's something the fandom really does need to think about a bit more.
But this could still work! You could use it as leverage and create a whole new side of her personality. Perhaps it could contribute to some unseen issue, such as a hatred of SkyWings or a fear of the outside world.

To this day, Zodi is currently living in the NightWing forest, studying to be an astrologer.
Awww, go Zodi! I hope she succeeds.

COMMENTS;;
------ The good...
Overall, this dragon is very creative! Her description is very interesting, and her personality is downright adorable. You seem very aware of everything you're doing - and anything that could be a possible disadvantage to her realism as a character - so overall I'd say this character is a very enjoyable individual, with a very conscious, self-aware design that I truly envy.

------ The bad...
Come on. I don't bite. You don't have to be afraid of every single quality of hers!
The only real "bad" thing I can comment on is the whole "human years" thing I mentioned earlier; and even then, it isn't your fault. It's a common thing. And possibly her coloration; I'm not sure NightWings can be that blue. But I'll admit your drawings of her are fantastic and the colours work brilliantly; if you weren't an artist, I'd be nabbing at you.

------ How you can improve!
I'm going to devote this paragraph to that one part of her backstory in which you mention the SkyWing who almost killed her. No, it's not cringey - it can work well!
Use it as ammunition. Make her angst about it (within reason); use it as an excuse to give her some sort of insecurity or irrational fear/hatred. It could even ignite some romance between her and Stormbound.
However, if you do, you also need to be aware that she should at least have some scarring somewhere to show for it. Experiences like this more often than not leave the individual with easily more negative outcomes than positive; but it could still be a very entertaining character development exercise.
