Hestia's Revenge (PearlPrincess_Lumina)

Hestia's Revenge

The end of the world as we know today was caused by an argument.

Just. Like. That.

How, you may ask. Love caused it.

It's said that the calamities occurring in the world is because of the arguments and fights between gods. Even though people in the world today sort them as science, we must consider the fact that a supernatural force or a supreme power greater than us does exist.

The gods exist.

I heard two people arguing. My curiosity spiked and I left my perch atop a branch at the top of a tree to climb down and investigate it. I froze halfway in my climbing as the voices got louder and peered down through the gaps between the leaves. I saw two women arguing under the tree. They were both beautiful. One was blond haired, blue-eyed and stood with perfect grace and a blank expression. The other one was a brunette with eyes the colour of fire; and they were blazing hot with fury. I stayed very still and watched them as they argued.

"Why did you do it?" The brunette asked through gritted teeth, her knuckles turning white as she fisted her hands.

"I don't know what you are talking about." The blonde replied, her face still perfectly blank.

"Don't test me, Aphrodite." The brunette said, visibly trying to control her anger.

"I did what I had to, Hestia." Aphrodite said, sighing.

"What you had to, Aphrodite? That's all you have got to say? You killed him!" Hestia yelled, her expression becoming dark.

"No I did not, Hestia!" Aphrodite exclaimed at the blame placed on her.

"Yes you did. You were the reason my son killed himself. You made the girl he loved fall for another and forget him." Hestia said, breathing heavily.

Aphrodite scoffed and said, "He was a fool for believing that she loved him when she was just using him to make the one she loved jealous. Mortals are just as cunning as us gods. They know how to play with the emotions of others. She played him and then broke his heart. It's her fault your son died."

"It's still your fault for making my son fall in love with her and for that, you will pay. As for the girl, she will burn in my fire and die." Hestia laughed maniacally.

I watched in horror as Hestia started chanting under her breath. Aphrodite looked at Hestia with wide eyes, fear churning in them. She seemed frozen. As was I.

Hestia finished her chant and turned to face the open sky.

"I, Hestia, the Goddess of Hearth and Fire, invoke the Ancient Curse. Let everything except the tree I stand under burn. This tree stands as the sole witness to my revenge and will forever remain."

A single tear rolled down her cheek and she disappeared. Aphrodite too disappeared, leaving me to watch in horror and helplessness as a raging fire burned everything in its path, leaving a wake of destruction behind.
