Lenen
"Well, the light bounces off each of the gears and eventually fills the whole room" Lenen answered. He sat down at a table made of gears and motioned us to sit as well.
"Now here is what you need to know about the clock," he said and he started talking.
"Why do you call him your Cogsworth?" I asked Lana quietly as Lenen rambled on, pulling out maps for different parts of the clock while John studied them listening to Lenen very carefully.
"Because that is the name that is given to the Timekeeper that cleans the clock and keeps it well maintained. These people take care of the clock until the clock is destroyed or they are removed from the system because of violation of the rules" She explained.
"But he is so old," I said, " how can he care for the clock at his age?"
"Oh it's simple" Lenen had stopped talking to John and was staring at us now. He reached for his wrist. When he twisted his arm he became a being made of wires and gears. His beard was replaced with wires and his eyes were two twinkling gears.
"Woah!" I said, "That is cool!"
"Yes it is cool," he said twisting his arm again. When he did he became his human form again. "I only change to this form for Outsiders, so they don't freak out. You see, I am ageless so even though I look old now, as long as I am working I will never die, or become unfit for my job. Now I believe that you will need this to get to the master gear." He placed a map on the table and spread it out. He pointed to a part of the map.
"We are here," he said, then traced a path to the center of the page. "This is the center gear, and this is the path that you will take." He traced his finger back to where we were on the map.
"Great," I said, "but how do we get from here to there because there is a big wall between us and the inner parts of the clock."
"There is a secret door which you can use to get into the inner parts" Lenen explained. " Here are the supplies that you will need to get to the gear safely," he said lifting three packs onto the table. " It is mostly blankets and food but there are ropes and some other materials in there as well," he said nodding to the three backpacks on the table.
"Also you will need these swords to protect yourselves," he said.
We each took our swords and packs and started looking through them.
"Um, Lenen?" I asked.
"What?" he said.
" I noticed that there aren't any flashlights in the packs," I said.
"You won't need a flashlight because there is a torch that lights the clock up during the day, like my workshop. But be warned, at night the flame is extinguished and you will be left in complete darkness. You need to have a fire going before that time, or "They" will get you" he said.
" Who are "They"?" I asked.
"Creepers. They roam around the inner clock at night. They are very dangerous and are very deadly. They are afraid of fire so we need to get a flame up and running before the light goes out at ten o'clock" said Lana.
"Okay, so shall we get going?" I asked.
"One more thing," Lenen said, " remember, the clock doesn't want to be stopped. It will try to stop you so be always on your guard."
"Thanks Lenen, for everything," Lana said.
"Alright, I'll take you to the door," Lenen said, and with that, we set off for the door. When we got there Lenen typed a special password into a keypad by the door, and it opened.
"Stay safe and make sure you make camp before ten o'clock!" Lenen turned to me, "After you stop the clock a portal will open. To get back into your world, you say where you want to go and you walk into the portal."
" Thanks Lenen," I said.
"Here," he put something cold and oval shaped in my hand. " Now go and save the world!" he cried as the portal closed, and we were on our own again.
