One year passes by

"Alright, kiddos, break it up," I said, clapping my hands. The two kids fighting in the middle of the crowd fought harder, and I sighed.

Bella.

Let them fight it out. It'll settle things better.

I rolled my eyes but smiled and waited, watching as they slammed furiously into each other.

"Liz." Avery came up from behind me and watched with me.

"Hey, Avery. What are these two?"

"Blue head is super strength. A bit rare here, but he's the strongest one out of all the SS here. Red is telepathy. I think that's the one Bella used. He messes with your mind too."

"That advanced? Nice."

A thud sounded, and Red's head snapped back as Blue punched his face with a sudden last burst of strength. He fell to the ground.

"Avery?"

"Got it." She rushed forward, and I kneeled, touching the tips of my fingers to the ground.

Immediately, the floor exploded, and I formed a sort of circle around the two of them. People muttered, and I heard some say,"It's the Beta and Gamma! We'd better go. The doyenne probably isn't far behind."

Doyenne is here already, sweethearts. Bella appeared out of thin air and dropped straight into the circle.

"My brother's on his way. I'd suggest leaving," she said out loud. "He's not as lenient as I am. Hope I see you at the DB tomorrow!" Bella smiled and waved before turning to Red and Avery.

"I fixed his neck," Avery said. "Just need to bring him back to life."

Bella nodded and stared at the boy's head.

Then she dug her nails into his temples until they broke through his skin.

"You cleaned them, right?" I asked.

Bella nodded. Then she said,"I am the doyenne of Silver Academy. I request a return of a soul. Bryan Hunt."

She sent off the usual pulse from her body, and then withdrew her nails as Bryan coughed and came back to life. He saw Bella.

"Oh, jeez, sorry, Bella. I didn't think I'd die today."

She shook her head. "No problem. I saved up enough energy anyways. Run along now. Class already started. Liz, please drop the walls."

I stood up, and the ground shifted again, dropping back in place. Bryant left as Bella bent down and murmured,"Please return me to a time past, a time where no spell was cast."

The cracks sealed and she straightened.

"I'm...here," Michael gasped as he skidded into the hallway.

"Too late," Bella replied. "Stay away. You're going to cancel the spell I just set."

"Oh. Sorry." He stepped away.

Should I explain now?

You see, in the past year, Bella helped me cultivate my ability. I managed to lengthen my time span and widen the area affected. Trent stepped down and offered me his spot as Gamma. Now I served as Gamma alongside Avery as the Beta and Wesley as the Delta, and Trent in a more comfortable, as he claimed, position of Epsilon. There were still eight others, but we didn't associate with the much. The old Epsilon had graduated the year before I'd arrived.

Of course, Bella and Michael remained as doyenne and doyen, or as the Alpha. This was only my second year here, and their tenth, so we maintained our positions. We were in ninth grade, so we still had three more years in these positions as long as we weren't knocked down. Silver also offered college, but college Ruling was different.

Why were Bella and Michael the Alphas, you say?

Well, although their abilities were complete opposites, they were the strongest ones here, as proven when they were in kindergarten and defeated the then Alpha as a pair.

Bella could copy anyone's ability, and she was born with an ability accompanying that one: the ability to return life and time. While Bella was practically the best offense, Michael was the best defense. He deflected and reflected any attacks of any kind, and also could temporarily make the effect of an ability wear off or cancel out any ability that was being triggered. They were born with two abilities, something so rare it only happened once every two or so thousand. Something that seemed even rarer was the fact that Bella used spells, which wasn't too common even among superhumans. That was the only reason Bella stood out besides her power borrowing, since as a prestigious academy, we had plenty of double superpowered people.

Bella breathed a sigh of relief. "Okay. The spell is done. Michael, you can come over now."

Michael strode forward and peered at Avery, who was sitting on the floor. "Avery?"

She looked up. "Sorry. That one wore me out a bit."

"Are you going to be okay for the Domain tomorrow?" Bella asked.

Avery nodded. "No problem. It just took a bit more than I expected to knit the bone back together."

Bella smiled. "Good. Okay. There's another one downstairs. I'm not entirely sure the Eta has it under control. Avery, I know you don't like him," she said quickly, noting the sour look on Avery's face. "But it's a bit of a problem."

"Fine. Take us away."

"A light that shines a thousand years, take us away to another fear, and purify it for all we hold dear."

I felt the feeling of a teleportation: a nice but slightly adrenaline tinted split into billions of atoms. Then they gathered back together and we landed.

As always, Michael cursed as his ankle folded and he went down. I turned away to see the Eta, Aarti, attempting to freeze - quite literally - the fighting seventh graders.

"I am the queen, he is a soldier, pull them apart and put us together." Bella took a step forward, and Aarti appeared by her side, looking bewildered as some force shoved the other two apart. One of them accidentally broke their arm and howled, while I touched the wall and let it become soft as the other kid hit it.

"Sorry," Bella said none too apologetically. "Never really figured out how to reduce the force."

The kid looked up with a glare that quickly became docile as he realized it was Bella and not any other person. She was already moving forward, stepping in as Avery finished healing the boy and murmured a new spell, one I hadn't heard before.

"Inform me of a past unknown, please let this story unfold."

Her eyes turned blank and she stared for a while. I stared at her before turning back to the other kid.

It was a girl, with long blonde hair and green eyes. As she looked up, I realized she was the Zeta, Chrissy.

"Oh, hey, Liz. Sorry for making you use your ability like that, I know you have to save up for tomorrow," she said.

While I had no idea why she was the Zeta or who she had taken over from, I understood that she was quite unique. Sometimes, a child's ability is merely a mixture of their parents' abilities. Because of this, scientists named them as unique bearers. In Chrissy's case, her father's body was incredibly durable, and her mother had super strength. In this, she utilized the durability to approach enemies while taking their attacks, and simply chopping them on their necks or something when she got close. She was great against magical or emitter types, but she wasn't as good against physical. Bella and Michael were also considered unique bearers.

I shook my head. "No problem. But why are you here? I thought you'd be in the fifth graders' hall today. They're dueling, and I'm pretty sure you got assigned duty there."

Her lips twisted. "They finished early for some reason, so I had extra time. Eta over there called me up and said there was some kid over here with durability, so of course his ability wasn't going to work on someone like this. As always."

"Oh. Makes sense."

I also didn't know why or how Aarti managed to accomplish becoming Eta, but his ability was much more simple. The more emotional he was, the more he improved the abilities of the people around him. He was the buffer of our game, but only good for that: he had no means to attack or defend, so we mostly kept him with Michael, since Aarti's ability was passive and thus could never be turned off. He was also a unique bearer, referring to his ice. As a result, there were times when we kept him with Michael, and others where we had him with Bella, who could borrow her brother's ability and cancel his passivity while allowing him to use his ice and her to use any other skill she wanted.

Bella was finished with the other kid, and we winced as she snapped,"Tell the rest of this place to keep it down or they'll be on probation for a week and have to try to get the My position at the end of it. Understand?"

My was the last position, but it was by no means the weakest. My Austin was incredible even comparing him to Bella. His ability was similar to mine, but he influenced people's actions and mind with a simple touch. I offered him my Gamma position for his My position once but he refused, saying he liked his place. In other schools, My is considered the weakest and lowest rank of the Rules, as they called us. He enjoyed showing his superiority when it came to Rule vs Rule; the other My never managed to live up to his power.

The kid whitened and nodded, scrambling up and bowing before running away.

"Jesus Christ. Damn kids." For a moment, I thought I saw Bella's face flicker, showing a harsher, incredibly beautiful girl with looks that were exactly the same except for the pale skin that turned tan.

She caught me staring and frowned. I blinked and the flickering disappeared, giving me the same old Bella.

"Are you okay?"

I nodded. "Yeah, just thought I saw something."

Her forehead creased and her eyes narrowed before she turned away. She clapped her hands together.

"Okay. Eta, just go to class." She rolled her eyes as Aarti awkwardly smiled and left. "Zeta, monitor the smallest ones. Teachers told me that they were having problems." Chrissy nodded and left. We heard her curse and trip, falling down the stairs, then shake herself off and run the rest of the way. Bella couldn't help the amused grin I saw spread on her face.

"Durability," she sighed. "As for you two," she nodded towards me and Avery, who was once again resting on the ground,"I'd like for you to head back to the dorms and rest up for tomorrow. We can't afford to lose because of a lack of energy."

We nodded, and I helped Avery up. As we trudged towards the stairs, I glanced back to see the twins disappear into thin air.

Sometimes I questioned that.

How did Bella manage to get Michael away when he would cancel out her spell?
