Episode 3: Home Cooked pt 1
☼
AN: Meet the local moms.
"Mmffhmm hmmnmm-fhm."
"For the last time Nat I'm not taking that parking, the space is too tight and my car isn't going to fit."
"Hmm-nmmm-mhm fff."
"Oh yeah, would you like to drive?" Harry challenged with a turn of his head, looking over at me in the passenger seat as I narrowed my eyes at him, knowing I couldn't even speak let alone drive with the three small folded bags of pastries held between my lips and the two trays of assorted coffees and lattes.
"No, I didn't think so." He said in an arrogant tone, running his tongue along the inside of his cheek while a slow triumphant dimpled smirk spread across his face when I didn't respond, looking away with a smile and continuing to drive around the parking lot of Long Hill Elementary school to look for a parking space.
This short hair lookin' ass smirking bitch mother-frogger long legged giraffe hoe has been driving around this damn place looking for a parking spot for ten minutes straight and if he had just listened to me on being a little more aggressive and assertive behind the wheel like he probably was behind his wife's ass there wouldn't be a problem.
"Mmphfff!" I exclaimed through clenched teeth, putting down and balancing one of the cardboard coffee trays on my lap before instantly reaching across the console and repeatedly hitting Harry's chest when I spotted a good empty parking space, it wasn't perfect but it was available.
"Alright I got it, I got it!" Harry exclaimed, leaning away from my hits with a light laugh, driving back a bit and calculating his movements ever so... damn.... slowly.
I widened my eyes, sharply inhaling with impatience as Harry turned the wheel, slowly approaching the empty lot before a small light green Volkswagon Beetle cut us off, driving faster and quickly taking the vacant space.
"Oh, sorry sweet peas, didn't see you guys there with your slow driving." An elderly woman peeked her head out, giving us a wrinkly smile as she cackled to herself before retreating back into her car.
"It's fine." Harry smiled, waving his hand out to her through his open window as I repeatedly hit my forehead against the dashboard besides him.
"Oh come on, she apologized, they'll be another opening soon." He reasoned with a careless shrug as I slowly raised my head up to send him a blank stare.
"Mmff-hmm-mm nmm fff."
"I am not a push over when I'm driving."
I leaned back in my seat, angling my head to the side to give Harry a sassy once over with large eyes to which he mimicked my actions, doing the same with the both of us challenging the other to speak.
"Don't give me that look." He shot at me.
"Mmhmm-nmm."
"But I'm not even raising my voice!"
"MHMMSHJSSJKWS."
We both stopped our bickering and muffled grunts when we spotted the perfect- and I'm talking about the whole time stops and the clouds above part as a golden spotlight from heaven ascends to the empty parking space below while a chorus of angels sing perfect- lot right at the front.
"See, told you we'd get another parking spot, and it's even better." Harry pointed out, starting the car forward as I dropped the bags from my mouth.
"We're not gonna get any parking spot with that grandma trying to get it." I said, gesturing to the green volkswagon that had taken the spot before us backing out, trying to get the better spot at the front.
"Nat she's just a sweet old lady and she's probably just repositioning her parking job or something, there's no way she'd be greedy enough to try and-"
The green bug car zipped passed us, the old lady hunched over the wheel in determination as we followed the car with our heads, an 'I told you so' look on my face while Harry's had a 'what the fuck' expression on his.
"That bitch." Harry blinked in shock and anger, quickly changing the gear shift before flooring it as I tried to balance the tray of hot drinks in my hands as we leaned every which way while he swerved the car, rapidly turning the steering wheel like he was starring in a Fast and Furious movie chasing scene before we quickly veered our way passed the old lady and into the parking lot a split second before she could.
"Sorry sweet pea, didn't see you there." Harry called out, mimicking her shriveled voice, sticking his head out of his car window when he parked as he waved at the old woman scowling behind us with a smile.
"Yeah, suck it grandma!" I hollered on the other side in a deep voice, sticking my head out as well before both Harry and I laughed loudly and obnoxiously in a childish manner, both of our heads just out on either side of his car while we cackled as the old woman flipped us off and drove away.
Harry and I retreated back inside the vehicle, our laughters gradually dying before we let out small sighs of content, smiling and leaning back in our seats before we looked at eachother.
"Ready for the mom meeting?" He sighed with a raise of his brow, making me purse my lips in thought as I gathered all of the drinks, pastries, and my keys together, juggling them in my grasp.
"Ready to do adult things." I shrugged, exchanging smiles with him as we both got out.
The mom meeting we were going to at our kids' elementary was actually this parent meeting that's held every week to talk about upcoming activities or events for our kids but since only the local neighborhood school moms attended and Harry was the only dad in the group, we called them "mom meetings."
I guess it was nice to have help since Harry and I were usually at home since our jobs didn't require us to go far away like our spouses, Harry would go help construct a rich neighbor's garden nearby every few weeks and I would always be working on new stories and dealing with my editor's comments about my new writing.
"You sure you don't want to spit in Maria's coffee before we go inside?" Harry questioned, pausing at the door holding one of the trays of drinks as I scrunched my face at him.
"No, why would I wanna do that?"
He only shrugged casually in response.
"Cause she's been telling all the other moms that whenever you wear yoga pants you look like you have quadruple ass cheeks." He then answered.
I began to rapidly gather all the spit I could make in my mouth, throwing my head back and gargling it as Harry opened the lid of Maria's cup of coffee.
I paused, leaning forward as if to spit in it before laughing with a closed mouth and shaking my head as he watched me.
"Mm-mm.. nope can't do it. It's too mean, and it's not like she's wrong." I quickly swallowed, laughing and turning to look at my ass which was currently tucked in yoga pants as Harry closed the cup with a smile.
"Well if it's any consolation I personally don't think it makes you look like four ass cheeks." He said, looking over at the door with a sly smile.
"Thanks mah dude." I turned to grin at him in appreciation.
"It makes you look like you have one."
My smile slowly faded as Harry's only grew in amusement while he ignored my gaze and stared at the closed entrance.
"Wait what."
The door suddenly opened, causing both Harry and I jerk back at the abruptness as one of the moms named Tammy paused when she saw the two of us.
"I thought I heard voices outside," She said, flashing a perfect pearly white smile keeping her eyes trained on Harry who shifted awkwardly at my side.
"Oh Harry, we thought you weren't coming today so good to see you." She exclaimed, her grin actually broadening as she placed her hand over chest, her eyes raking over his body ever so subtly as he swallowed nervously.
"Uh yeah, no I was just helping out with getting coffee for everyone with Na-"
"Well aren't you just the sweetest. It's not even your turn to get the drinks for this meeting you saint." Tammy giggled, playfully swatting Harry's chest before her eyes widened and she started to grope his chest.
"Wow, it's like rock." She awed underneath her breath, a look of pure amazement and wonder on her face as I cleared my throat, wanting to feel appreciated as well for getting all the drinks.
"Oh Nat, didn't even see you there deary, come in come in. Everyone's been waiting for you Harry!" Tammy laughed, clasping her hands together with delight as she turned on her heel while Harry let out a breath of irritation between pursed lips.
"Me too?" I asked with a hopeful smile as we followed her inside into the corridor of the elementary before we approached the meeting room.
She paused, turning to look at me as she blinked her brown eyes in confusion.
"Oh right yes of course, everyone loves you Nat!" She smiled, making me grin and nudge Harry with excitement as he smirked and shook his head at me.
It was no mystery that Harry was popular among the moms around here... or the rest of the female population and even a little bit of the males on earth as well.
But for me, I don't know, the local moms still haven't seem to warm up to me yet but I'm working on it.
"Harry!" The women immediatly squealed when him and Tammy entered the room, practically cheering, bouncing up and down clapping in their seats that were lined in a circle with so much excitement I swear one mom looked tempted to lift her shirt and scream "sign my boobs" from the back.
"Hey ladies." Harry politely smiled at each and everyone of them as he waved his hand.
"Sign my boobs!" Susan screamed, lifting up her blouse as the rest of the woman cheered, screaming "me next" repeatedly and melting in their comfortable black flats whenever Harry made eye contact with them.
Totally called that shit.
"And me..." I squeezed in behind Harry, raising the drinks and pastries with a friendly smile as the moms quieted, looking at me in confusion as Susan slowly lowered her blouse back over her chest giving me a blank stare.
It was as if Beyoncé had entered the room and then Iggy following right after.
At least that's the kind of vibe I got as I froze with my arms up, the smile still plastered on my face as I waited for my warm greeting as well.
"Oh yes... you..." Katherine said in a friendly tone, wearing that grin people wore when they don't remember who the hell someone is as all the moms followed suit, echoing "you" and "ah yes you" as I slowly lowered my arms in disappointment.
"You guys, I've been coming to these meetings since day one," I pointed out, hoping it would spark any one of their memories as they glanced over at Tammy besides me with wide pleading eyes.
I then turned my head to Tammy, only to find her slowly mouthing my name to the room of moms before she caught me staring, quickly shutting her mouth and plastering a nervous smile.
"Okay well my name's Nat and I got you all coffee and pastries!" I announced, not wanting to make anyone feel awkward and letting it all slide as they cheered in celebration, Harry helping me hand them each their drinks.
"Ellen I got you your all wheat bagel and even warmed it up just like you asked." I smiled, handing her the brown bag of warm food as she tilted her head to the side.
"Oh.. I wanted it to be room temperature." She awkwardly said, looking up at me as I paused, staring at her before slowly nodding in understanding.
"Oh right my bad, let me just..." I trailed off, taking back the bag from her hand before opening it with a loud crinkle from the material as I noisily and violently began to blow the food while Ellen cringed back in her seat.
"Almost got it," I reassured her with a quick smile, continuing to blow and fan her food before someone cleared their throat, making me freeze in my spot before I slowly raised my hand, realizing that Harry was the one who awkwardly cleared his throat while all the moms in the room stared at me as he patted on the seat of an empty chair besides him.
"Right. Sorry." I quickly apologized under my breath, handing Ellen her bag of food back before I crossed the room and sat next to Harry who handed me my own drink and food with a teasing smirk.
"Well, now that's all over we can continue out discussions." Tammy happily announced, sitting on the other side of Harry as she moved her hands to the side, accidently spilling her latte all over Harry's shirt making him jolt up from his chair.
"Oh goodness, Harry I'm so sorry, I'm such a klutz." Tammy tsked, quickly apologizing as the moms gasped in their seats with distraught expressions while Tammy attempted to help wipe at Harry's stained shirt while he grit his teeth, a tic in his clenched jaw as I reached out and patted his arm gently, catching his attention before his angered expression gradually morphed into a calm one while he looked at my face.
"It's fine." He bit out, bearing a forced smile and taking in a deep breath, making me smile knowing that his control with his temper has gotten a lot better as Tammy frowned.
"Oh I just feel absolutely terrible," She said, still dabbing the fabric of his shirt with napkins and exchanging sad looks with the rest of the women who all nodded simultaneously in understanding.
"It's fine really, I think I have an extra shirt in my car anyways." Harry dismissed, lifting up the hem of his shirt as he began to peel off the fabric and exposing his toned set of abs that displayed different tattoos across his taut skin making everyone in the room inhale loudly and hold their breaths.
It was then I noticed the collection of excited breathless gasps from the moms as they gaped hungrily at Harry's body, making me purse my lips and nod in understanding since Harry has always had a nice physique to me, from when we first met and he was pretty well toned, to when we were together and he started getting this cute little tummy I would always poke and tease but secretly love.
Now even as full grown adults I had never seen Harry this ripped, his biceps were bigger than before and I felt if I ever even tried to punch him in the stomach like I used to do all the time before my knuckles would be left cracked and bleeding with no scar or dent on his body.
I guess it had something to do with his new occupation as a landscaper, having to destroy and reconstruct thousands of backyards, sometimes even using his bare calloused hands to wrench out tiles from the ground or shovel more effectively with his back muscles and biceps shifting, a layer of sweat forming over his skin under the hot sun and holy shit I'm drooling.
"Shit Debby I'm all out of storage." One mom besides me whispered in a panic when she whipped out her phone, recording Harry just like the woman next to her.
"Just do what I do," The woman Debby whispered back to her, the both of them leaning closer as they held their phones out to record.
"Delete all pictures and videos of your family and children."
"Oh my god," The lady gasped quietly as she looked at Debby with wide eyes.
"I can't just do that those are cherished memories-"
"Oh Harry my oh my, is that a new tattoo!" Tammy blurted out in delight as Harry paused from lifting up his shirt to give her a look.
"You know what now that I think about it Tyler can always get another home run, no need for videos of that." The mom next to Debby quickly said, vigorously tapping on the screen of her phone with wide eager eyes.
As for me well, I tried to subtly wipe at my chin, realizing I had been staring hard at Harry's impressive abdomen, zoning out and daydreaming about him working as he paused, the shirt bunched right below his chest as he noticed all the heavy stares he was getting from the horny moms before looking over at me where I was practically convulsing and foaming at the mouth.
I have a husband, I have a husband, I have a husband.
Harry blushed when our eyes locked, quickly putting his shirt back down creating a chorus of disappointed "aw's" to echo throughout the room, a harsh whispered "I deleted my son's home run of my phone for nothing," leaving that one mom's mouth as I looked away from him, nervously biting at my nails with wide eyes.
"I'm just gonna go, change in my car." Harry awkwardly swallowed, nodding at all the frowning and pouting woman before he stalked out of the room as I ever so slowly sunk lower into my chair, rubbing my temples in revelation.
I can't still have these thoughts about Harry I mean what the hell I'm a married woman, I'm married and I'm.. I'm happy- yes I'm very happy and just having Harry as a friend again makes me super happy.
Holy shit I'm a terrible wife, I was terrible with Harry and now I'm doing the same to Aaron that's great, that's fucking fantastic aha yes, so fucking wonderfully amaz-
You know what, it's all good, just not gonna think about it.
Not one bit.
"Hey Nat, did you tap that?" Someone asked, snapping me out of my thoughts as I straightened in my chair only to realize that all the moms in the room were staring at me with wide excited eyes.
"Uh... say what now?"
"You know, did you hit it?" Tammy reiterated with a wiggle of her eyebrows as I made a face.
"We know you two aren't together but there must be some history you guys have that you're not telling us, I mean you're always together and so buddy buddy." Chasity spoke up in a matter-of-fact kind of tone as she nodded her head.
"And have you seen how he looks at you?" Sandra squealed in her chair as I tilted my head to the side.
"You mean with his eyeballs..." I offered with a raise of my brow as the women shook their heads at me in impatience.
"No, I didn't sleep with Harry and we're just good friends from college." I said, looking at each and everyone of them straight in the eye as I said so.
Aha I'm a great actress.
Sure I lied but I'm married to Aaron and Harry is with Cynthia now, I respect their relationship and my own so I'm not going to just go around and announce that that ass was mine while thrusting my hips in the air everytime Harry is two meters away from me.
Did I do that back then when we were together though?
Uh, yeah, a few times.
Am I gonna do it now?
Uh, hell to the no.
I let out a breath of relief when Harry entered the room with a new shirt on, a buttoned tropical looking shirt that was unbuttoned slightly at the top, exposing a bit of his tattooed chest before he took his seat back next to me as the moms quieted their murmurs of gossip, blatantly staring between Harry and I.
"You good?" Harry asked, ignoring the looks and nodding over at me as I slowly turned my head to him with wide eyes before trying to relax my body more as I gave him a smile.
"Yeah, so good, you good? I'm great." I quickly replied back, blinking at him as he raised his brow at me while I noisily opened my small brown bag that was holding my pastry.
"So great." I whispered to myself before taking out the dessert and practically shoving it down my throat, choking on it slightly before continuing to devour it.
"Now, back to the discussion of the day, I know we're all very fond of the annual bake sale we do to help fundings for the school and our children," Another mom named Monica announced, readjusting her pearl necklace with a smile as she looked at everyone, Harry and I being the only parents slouching lazily in our chairs.
"But we're cutting it off." She said in an abrupt tone, clasping her hands together as the rest of the moms nodded in agreement while Harry straightened in his seat at her words.
"What? You're cutting off the bake sale? But the kids love the home made sweets." Harry defended, running his tongue along his lower lip momentarily distracting Monica and the rest of the women near him as he leaned forward, resting his elbows over his knees, playing with his wedding band.
"And they'll love the new fruits and vegetable sales even more." Monica perked up.
"Just think about it Harry, it's so much better to start teaching the children how to eat healthier, non-gluten, non-dairy, low fat, low carb, low calorie-"
"But they're just kids." Harry brought up with a determined tone.
"It's true but really, with all these unhealthy examples of eating such fatty foods, it really isn't good for our children in the long run." Monica pointed out in a soft voice as Harry furrowed his brows at her.
"Unhealthy examples? What are you talking about no one is displaying any of thos-"
"Oh mah gahd the custard inside this donut is good as fuckkk..." I said through a mouthful of fried chocolate glazed pastry, messily wiping the cream off the side of my chin as I licked my fingers and lips, freezing when I saw every fellow mom in the room looking at me as Harry released a slow sigh by my side.
"Ya'll want some?" I asked when I noticed the stares, bringing my arm that was holding my bitten donut out as the moms looked away with distaste before I glanced over at Harry, raising my brows and silently offering the sweet.
He stared at me, his gaze flickering from the donut then to my face before he broke into a small dimpled smirk, taking a piece of it off before popping it into his mouth, sucking the cream off the tip of his thumb as all the women gaped at him with entranced expressions.
"Well I think we should stick to the bake sale." Harry shrugged, his sharp jawline evident as he chewed the food in his mouth as the moms continued to watch him slowly lick the cream from his fingers.
"I agree with Harry!"
"Yes me too, me too!"
"The bake sale is so important for the children's learning experience!"
"Lick my cream off your fingers like that daddy!"
Everyone stopped their talking as we all slowly turned to the voice of the last statement in the back of the room, only to find Gina's husband awkwardly standing there with a purse in his hand.
"Frank honey, what are you doing here?" Gina questioned, turning around in her chair to send him a confused look.
"You forgot your purse, just came to drop it off." He simply answered, handing her her small bag and leaning down to kiss her cheek, the both of them smiling before Frank rose to leave, mouthing a subtle "call me" as he pointed at Harry before leaving the room.
Even when he was gone the room stayed silent.
"How did he even get in here?" I laughed to myself, picking at my donut as Harry tried to cover up his laughter by clearing his throat when we found that the rest of the moms were unamused, especially Gina.
"Look Harry, if you're so determined to keep the bake sale you can. The rest of us will work on our fruit stand and you can work on your bake stand and at the end of the day we'll see who's made the most money." Monica proposed as Harry straightened his posture.
"Alright I'll take that offer, and Natalie here will be helping me work on our bake sale as well." He concluded with a hard look as he stared at Monica.
I looked up from my donut, turning my head to glance at Harry.
"I'm doing what now." I said.
"Glad we could make a compromise Mr. Styles. School lunch for our children will be starting in a few minutes so we'll cut this meeting short." Monica smiled, checking her watch as everyone stood to their feet, filing out of the room before one mom bumped into me, making me drop my donut outside with a look of horror.
"Five second rule." I said, ready to bend down to retrieve it only for someone to grab the back of my collar, pulling me back and straightening my posture as Harry glared down at me, giving me an "are you serious" look.
"I'll get you another one." He simply said when he saw how serious I was about my food, letting me go and patting my shoulder as I smiled, cleaning up the mess on the ground.
"Nah it's fine you don't have to-"
"Chocolate glazed or sugar glazed?" He suddenly asked.
"Sugar this time." I immediatly answered, rummaging through my pockets to find another little bag of food, a croissant that I had bought at the coffee shop for Haz.
"Wait I got something for Haz, I'm just gonna give it to him since they're at lunch already." I informed Harry, darting to the entrance again and heading for the colorful cafeteria right in front of the classes where all the second graders ate.
I stopped right at the door, immediatly spotting my son's poofy afro through the tables and tables of kids a few feet away, only to pause and freeze on my feet when I heard their conversation.
"My mommy made me her famous casserole dish!" One of Haz's friends Cody smiled, proudly showing off his home made lunch.
"My daddy made his super spicy curry pot for me to take. It's still fresh." Rogan announced, opening the steaming tuperware of home cooked food with an excited grin.
"What did your mommy make you for lunch Haz?" Another boy named Tim asked as he took out his own egg sandwich his parent made for him.
"My ma made pizza," Haz said, rummaging through his brown paper bag and pulling out the tinfoil wrapped lunch.
"And when I say made I mean she made the pizza guy come over to our house and deliver it." He elaborated with a smirk, making all of his friends laugh as my smile faltered.
"Thanks for the potato salad you made this morning daddy, oh hi Mrs- I mean Nat." Talie smiled, waving at me as she parted from Harry who approached my side, a goofy grin on his face as he looked at his daughter with joy and admiration, waving goodbye to her as she walked away with her bag of food and friends, making me smile as well.
"Hey Harry, you think I should start making Haz lunch, you know home made meals instead of just takeout or food from nearby restaurants." I suddenly asked Harry as we stood there, watching Talie walk over to Haz, sitting besides him and tapping his shoulder, telling him something before pointing at Harry and I.
"What? Why, what did he do? Is he talking back, is he not listening to you?" Harry asked, crossing his arms over his chest as I turned my head to look up at him.
"What- no, no why would you think me attempting to cook him his lunches would be punishment?" I asked with a furrow of my brows as Harry blinked down at me, opening his mouth despite the fact that no words were leaving his lips.
"Uhhh....." He slowly trailed off, taking in a deep breath before awkwardly blowing air out between his pursed lips before he nudged my arm with his elbow.
"Oh look, Haz is trying to get your attention." He said, making me look over back to my son who was raising his hand up in a peace sign.
I smirked, raising the closed brown bag that had the donut.
"Heads!" I called out, holding the bag like a football, bringing my shoulder back as Haz clapped his hands before bringing them up.
"I'm open!" He responded from across the cafeteria before I hurled the pastry at him as he quickly caught it, letting out a loud "yeah" as his friends cheered while Talie brought his other arm up like he was a triumphant UFC boxing champion.
"Share." I mouthed and he nodded with a smile, probably not even knowing what the hell I just said but sharing either way as he opened it up while his friends surrounded him.
"Haz your mom's so cool."
"I wish my mom could throw like that."
"I wish I could have your mom's buns." Rohan said before he looked up to blow a kiss at me.
Oh.... second grade boys....
Harry and I said our last goodbyes to our kids before we left, walking side by side back to his car before I let out a small breath.
"Harry, I help you with your bake sale on one condition." I said once we got into his vehicle, making him pause to smirk at me since the both of us knew I'd help him no matter what.
"Oh? And what's that?" He grinned, buckling himself up and starting the engine as I leaned over the console, clasping my hands together in a pleading manner.
"Please teach me how to make good home cooked meals for my son."
AN: Next chapter will be a part two of Nat's point of view. I was going to make it just one big ass chapter but then I was like nahhhhh.
