Ch. 45 - You're Adopted

AN: I don't usually do this because when I read other people's stories I usually just imagine how the characters look in my head but if you wanted to know how I pictured them they're up there, you can imagine them anyway you want idc as long as you enjoy :)
I'm prayin for ya'll...

The sound of utensils clinking against porcelain plates were the only noises that could be heard throughout the awkwardly quiet dining room.

That and also the sound of Harry's heavy breathing as he hypervenilated into the brown paper bag Dad E. had lent him at the dining table.

"Um, can someone pass the peas please..." Todd spoke up, breaking the silence as his voice cracked at the end of his request making him immediatly clear his throat before looking up from his plate.

Mandy reached out for the bowl at the same time as Harry who was sitting across from her, their hands brushing against eachother for a moment causing the both of them to still in their seats.

With wide eyes they quickly retracted their hands back making Harry breathe even harder into his crinkling paperbag until he leaned down, resting his head on my lap hiding from everyone while I stroked his hair, his long legs curled on his own seat as he snuggled into me.

"Awkward...." Grant sang out in a high pitched voice, taking a sip of his glass of water with a smug expression on his face as both my fathers, Mandy, and I turned to glare at him.

"Alright... no one passes the Indian boy his peas, fine, I get it." Todd mumbled under his breath, standing up from his seat to reach across the plates of food for the bowl, his stomach pressing flat against the table before he finally retrieved it with a grunt.

"So... Mandy honey, how's your work with Chanel going?" Dad D. asked, clearing his throat as he wiped at his lips while Mandy plastered a forced smile, grabbing the salt shaker as her eyes shifted from the table to our dads.

"Oh yeah, it's great, love it," Mandy began, snorting a bit as she forced a laugh while shaking the salt over her steak.

"Did lots of shoots in Miami, modeled a few works in Europe you know same 'ol same 'ol.... but hey! You know what, enough about me let's talk about Natalie!" She said, still shaking the salt shaker over her food as she brought everyone's attention to me with an uneasy overly cheerful smile.

"So how's it- how's it going? How's life treating you sis? You seem to uh- to uh have a new addition with you, how did, how did that happen huh?" Mandy laughed out, furrowing her brows together as she tried to act casual.

"Mandy." I said, my gaze flickering to the salt that was beginning to pile up on her plate.

"I mean it's not- it's not that I care it's just I think we all want to know and I'm happy for you! I really am, ha, remember when I said to go out and get a guy, yeah anyone remember that? No-" Mandy continued to ramble on, looking around nervously with a shakey smile as she swallowed.

"Mandy." I began again, my whole family just staring at the meat on her plate that was now halfway buried in salt.

"I just, I'm curious how you two met really I mean it's just so funny how small the world is isn't it? Hillarious right? Absolutely bust your gut kind of funny-"

"Mimi!" A deep voice snapped making all of us freeze as we turned to look at Harry who raised his head up from my lap, an intense look in his eyes as he glared at my sister.

"You're putting too much salt on your food." He told her, avoiding her gaze as she gulped, her blue eyes widening in surprise at all the salt on her plate while Harry placed his hand on my thigh from under the table.

"Holy shit, I didn't know Harry was laying his head on Nat's lap, for a moment I thought Nat's vagina was yelling at Mandy." Grant gulped, placing his hand over his chest as he let out a sigh of relief.

"Oh cheese and sprinkles, sorry I guess I'm just, I'm just a bit...you know salty is all." Mandy mumbled under her breath when she looked at her plate, her blue eyes meeting mine before she tried to give me a small playful wink, hoping I would get her joke making me smile.

I brought my hand down on Harry's and squeezed it in reassurance, making him finally look at me for the first time since we've sat down as I gave him a small supporting smile.

Now do I strangle his hand or just keep holding and supporting was the real question here.

Harry's cheeks flushed as our eyes locked, a relieved dimpled grin forming over his face before he flipped his hand upwards to meet mine and intwined our fingers together.

Ah shit, he has me so whipped.

I'll roast him later.

"Mandy did bring up a good point though, how did you and Harry meet Nat?" Dad E. asked, resting his elbows on the table as every head in the room turned to Harry and I.

"Oh well, you see it started when my parents sold me to be a sex slave for drugs," I began, shifting in my seat as Harry's eyes widened while Grant mumbled a "here we go" under his breath and Todd leaned in, actually looking interested as Mandy smiled and shook her head at me.

"I don't remember doing that, do you remember doing that?" Edgar paused, looking over at his husband as he pointed at himself.

"No but it sounds like something you would do." Dennis retorted with a slight shrug, giving his partner a look as he put a spoonfull of mashed potatoes into his mouth.

"What? I would never ever trade in any of my beautiful kids for that mary joanna nonsense-" Edgar said, looking offended and appalled as he placed his hand over his chest making me and my siblings look at him with a blank expression.

"Alright, alright, maybe for a couple of pounds- proceed Nat honey." He said, leaning back in his seat as he crossed his leg over the other and sipped at his wine with a mischevious smile.

"Oh yeah, I was a sex slave, all helpless and lost until I was sold to none other than Harry Styles himself!" I explained, moving a bit to the side so I could stretch my arms out, jutting them out as if Harry was on display making him close his eyes, resting his elbow against the table as he shook his head and laughed at me.

"Wow, I can't even buy a gumball." Todd commented as Grant nodded in agreement.

"And then Harry showed me how kind he was, so gentle and sweet that I totally overlooked the fact that he bought me like I was some sort of property and he didn't even force me to have sex with him." I grinned as Harry raised his brows at my words while I placed my hand over my heart and let out an overdramatic sigh.

"Nat... why would you even..." Todd trailed off, scrunching his face up in disgust as Grant and Mandy laughed.

"Funny, that's almost like how me and your father met!" Dennis squealed making all of us scream out loud "No's."

"Quick! Someone change the subject before they talk about their sex lives again!" Todd begged, a desperate expression on his face as he clung onto the table.

"I got one! Can we talk about how awkward it is that Nat is dating Mandy's old boyfriend from highschool?" Grant offered, raising his hand with a smile as the whole room quieted down while we all narrowed our eyes at him.

"Dude!" Harry and I both exclaimed in annoyance as I raised my hands giving him a "what the fuck" look.

"Not that subject!" Mandy hissed, kicking Grant under the table making him jump in his seat with a yelp.

"Not funny man." I said, kicking him as well.

"Ouch!" Grant snapped, bringing his hands up in surrender as everyone began to attack his shins and legs under the table.

"Kids! Kids!" Dad E. cried out, causing us to all halt in a stop as he brought his hands up in a cautious manner.

"See, at least my dads love me." Grant relaxed in his chair, letting out a sigh of relief at his new back up.

"Someone kick Grant for me I can't reach him." Dad E. finished, making Grant scream out a "What!?" before we all continued kicking.

"Wait, so this is why it was so awkward and quiet in the beginning? Because him and Mandy dated, god if it's that weird just talk it out and stop being pussies." Todd said through a mouthfull of peas as Harry choked on his drink while Mandy and I face palmed.

"No fucking cussing in my house!" Dad D. scolded, wagging his pointer finger at Todd before Dad E. got up to retrieve the swear jar.

"Swear jar, pass it around, just because you didn't say the cuss word out loud I know you guys are cussing in your heads, plus I want to get new curtains for the living room so everyone make your donations." Dad E. announced, sitting back in his seat as he tossed Todd the jar who groaned in annoyance before he shoved a dollar bill inside and passed it to Grant.

Eventually it made its way to Mandy who adruptlh grabbed her designer bag from the floor, taking out her MK wallet before clipping it open and letting all the money inside fall into the jar, an avalanche of coins and bills filling the container until it was halfway full as she began to breath heavily, shaking her wallet until the last dime fell into the jar.

She looked up, her cheeks flushing when she saw that everyone was looking at her in confusion before a shy smile spread across her face.

"I've just been repeating oh shit in my head ever since I got here so..." She began, looking between Harry and I as she pushed the jar towards me with her pointer finger.

"Same. Except mine is like the oh shit in that Fergie song." I agreed, giving her a smile as I took out my wallet and did the same.

"I'm too broke to do that shit." Grant spoke up.

"You cussed." Todd smirked, grabbing the jar away from me before slamming it against Grant's chest as he scowled.

"Oh Nat, I dropped my fork, could you help me find it?" Mandy suddenly asked, lowering her voice and cupping the side of her mouth as if telling me a secret as she pointed at the floor.

"Yeah, sure." I said, furrowing my brows in confusion before I pushed my seat back, still staying in my chair as I bent down, peeking my head under the table to find Mandy's face across from me under the furniture as well.

"Nat how could you, out of all guys you decide to just take my old boyfriend from highschool? Really?" Mandy harshly whispered at me, her face scrunching in annoyance as my jaw dropped at her words.

"What, you think I did this on purpose?" I asked in disbelief, maintaining a low volume as we glared at one another, our heads still under the table.

"How was I supposed to know that he was the one from your highschool? We all went to different highschools remember and you said his name was Marcel." I hissed making Mandy shake her head at me.

"Marcel was just my nickname for him, he was all adorable and dorky back in highschool and now he comes here looking like Mick Jagger with all those tattoos and everything. Did you do that to him? You gave him tattooes didn't you." She accused, narrowing her eyes at me as I furrowed my brows in irritation.

"Not all of them. I just gave him one tattoo that's it." I defended only making Mandy's eyes widen in disbelief.

"Woah where'd you tattoo him? Please say his ass." Grant spoke up, peeking his head down under the table butting into our conversation.

"Oh my god Nat you tattooed my ex's ass?" Mandy gawked in shock as I looked between my two siblings.

"No! No, they were his hips, his hips."

"Oh my god close to that dick though..." Grant echoed, trailing off as a look of distress appeared over Mandy's face.

"How could you do this to me Nat? Seriously, I know when we were younger we shared everything but not a boyfriend, like what the hell? You do know I was his first for almost everything, first girlfriend, first girl he ever held hands with, first kiss." She listed off, practically fuming as Grant looked between the two of us.

"Yeah except for anything sexual, the guy wouldn't even touch you unless it was just an awkward hug." Grant snorted, making Mandy roll her eyes at him in annoyance.

"That's besides the point, Harry had told me that he was saving himself for marriage so it doesn't matt-"

"I took his virginity." I blurted out, making both Mandy and Grant's jaw drop in unison before a low chorus of oooohhh's were heard when Dad E. and Dad D. poked their heads under the table, joining in on the discussion.

"That's my girl!" Dad D. squealed, giving me a wink.

"Dad!" Mandy cried out, sending him a look.

"Oh right, sorry honey. We still love you."

"I don't think you guys understand how awkward this situation is for me." She huffed, turning her attention back to me before she shot me a glare.

"Hey, you know what's awkward," Todd's face appeared under the table with us as we all turned to him.

"The fact that you guys think that talking under a table automatically means the other people in the room can't hear your conversation." He brought up in a sarcastic tone, a fake smile plastered on his face as we all exchanged looks, realizing that the whole family had bent over and poked our heads under the furniture.

"Did we just leave Harry up there?" I asked, looking at my parents and siblings in confusion.

"Yes." Harry answered from above, clearing his throat awkwardly as we all widened our eyes in realization before slowly taking our heads out from under the table, straightening in our seats awkwardly.

A few moments of silence passed by as we all picked at our food.

"Is this payback for the time I went out with Jack Carnel?" Mandy suddenly blurted out, dropping her fork on her plate before giving me a pointed look as I choked on my drink making Harry turn to me in confusion.

"What? No!"

"Or the time I asked out Trent in front of you when I knew you liked him..."

"Why are you bringing this up again?"

"No! What what about the time I went over to Jason and told him you-"

"Seriously, you know me, I wouldn't just date a guy to get at you. Why can't you believe that I actually like Harry, it has nothing to do with you." I exclaimed, adruptly pushing my chair back and standing to my feet as Harry reached out and placed his hand over mine on the table.

"Is it that difficult for you to understand that I didn't know? You've had a lot of boyfriends in highschool you didn't care about why does it matter now?" I questioned, my anger boiling over as she stood up and glared at me from across the table.

"Because it just- it does! I haven't seen you in so long and when I finally do you just pull this bitch move on me!" She yelled in frustration as everyone looked between her and I with widened eyes.

"You know what Mandy you're adopted!" I screamed back, pointing at her in irritation.

"You're adopted too dumbass!"

"Oh for the love of God we have two dads, we're all adopted." Todd groaned out, throwing his hands up in the air in frustration as he shook his head.

"He was the guy from senior year Nat! The guy I told you about!" Mandy seethed, gesturing towards Harry who was sinking in his chair as I turned to look at him with wide eyes.

Mandy had a history of short lived relationships with different guys in highschool but in her senior year I remember she became really serious with one guy.

I just never knew that guy who cheated on her and broke her heart would be the one I'd be dating later on.

I remember her calling me in the middle of the night, crying to me that her highschool sweetheart had cheated on her, she even sent me a picture of the proof, I couldn't see his face but it was a blurred photo of a guy layed on a couch with another girl on top of him.

"Wait a minute... why are we fighting?" I told her, my words coming out slow as I furrowed my brows and turned my head to look at Harry who was taking a sip of his drink of water, the glass in his hand shaking when he felt my gaze on him.

"Hey babe..." He laughed nervously, looking up at me as I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Uh, if you guys don't mind, Harry and I will be leaving dinner early and heading upstairs." I announced, sending my family a small smile as they all exchanged knowing looks, including Mandy.

"Aha, I didn't uh, I didn't finish my food though and I don't want to be rude-" Harry swallowed, trying to look at my parents with wide eyes for help before I grabbed the back of shirt, dragging him out of his chair as he mouthed "help me" at my family.

I yanked him all the way upstairs into my old bedroom, slamming the door shut behind me before pushing him down to sit on my bed.

"Are you, um, mad?" Harry asked, sitting on my mattress with a stiff posture as he looked up at me.

"Mad, no. Irritated, yes." I told him, pacing back and forth in my room as I bit at my nails.

"Look, I get it. You and my sister had a past relationship together and there's no point in being mad because nothing can change what already happened. What I want to know is when the hell were you going to tell me that you dated my sister?" I interrogated, putting my fast walking to a halt to turn and glare at him.

"I didn't think you two were sisters alright, you guys look nothing alike and I thought your last name was just a coincidence I swear. It was at the front of your parent's mansion when I realized too late that you two were related but I was going to tell you after I met your fathers. You told me we were only going to meet your dads and that your siblings wouldn't be there so I thought I'd have time to explain later." Harry informed, giving me a pleading look as he tried to reach out and grab my hand.

"You cheated on my sister." I blurted out, remembering how she had gone into a mile depression afterwards as I narrowed my eyes at him.

"I cheated on her? She was the one who cheated on me!" Harry exclaimed, looking at me in disbelief as he raised his voice and stood to his feet to tower over me.

I blinked at him, thrown off gaurd by his words before I shook my head in denial.

"Mandy told me-"

"The night before I was invited to one of our mutual friend's house with him telling me that Mimi will meet me up there and she never shows up. I end up falling asleep on his damn couch to find some drunk girl on top of me! The next day guess what I get on my phone, a text from Mimi saying that it's over, that she'd never wanna be with a guy who's too nice for his own good with a picture of her making out with fucking Jonah!" Harry rambled on, his face flushed with rage as he ran a hand through his brown waves of hair trying to control his breathing as I watched him.

"The picture..." I mumbled to myself, piecing everything together slowly in my head before I looked at him again.

"Come on, you and my sister need to talk. Now." I said, grabbing his wrist and leading him out the room as he gawked at me in shock.

"Nat I don't want to talk to her, I want to talk to you." He said, stopping me in my tracks, tugging me back in the middle of the hallway until I stumbled back and he pinned me against the wall, placing both of his hands near my head caging me in.

"Dramatic much," I mused, smirking up at him as he smiled down at me.

"I know," He winked, flipping his hair making me laugh before he brought his hand to my face, tilting my chin up so I met his intense green eyes.

"You know I love you right, and that you're the one I want to be with. You're not mad about the whole history with your sister right, because that's just it. It's just history," He explained in a soft voice, running the pad of his thumb on my skin causing my breath to hitch before he lowered his head and pecked my lips.

"And you're my future." Harry finished, looking deep into my eyes as I smiled.

"In translation, I fucked your sis in the past but is' all good cause I got yo pussy so I want you now. Did I get it right?" I teased, wiggling my eyebrows at him as he rolled his eyes and let out a groan of annoyance, resting his head on my shoulder making me smirk while I patted his head for comfort.

"Oh fuck you. I was trying to be all sweet and it took me like two minutes to make that shit up in my head." He complained into my shoulder, his voice muffled against my skin as I brought his face up, placing both of my hands on his flushed cheeks before I gave him a quick peck on his lips.

"Thank you my little Hallmark giftcard, that was touching and cheesy but you don't have to worry. I'm not mad." I reassured him making him smile in relief.

"I never slept or did anything with your sister except kiss by the way. I was different in highschool then how I am now. You were the first girl I've ever fucked and the first girl I've ever made love to." Harry confessed, averting his gaze down to the floor as he held my wrists since my hands were still on his heated face.

"Aw cutie..." I grinned, pinching his cheeks making him scrunch his face up, faking annoyance as he swatted my hands away.

"I still have to talk to my sister and so do you, even though she's being stubborn I know she's hurt and the last thing I want is to hurt the people I love." I frowned, blinking down at my feet before I looked up and sent Harry a smile of reassurance and hope before taking a hold of his hand and leading him downstairs.

"Why do I have to talk to her again?" Harry questioned in annoyance as he followed me.

"Because you two just misunderstood one another is all, when you guys broke up. Look I don't care if this is stupid but I can't have the two people I love hate eachother for something you guys didn't even do." I explained, my palms sweating and my heart racing with anxiety.

Having my boyfriend and my sister talk could either be the best or worst idea I've ever come up with, but I knew one thing was for certain.

There was no way I could just stay quiet and sit on the side knowing that their breakup was just a misunderstanding.

I mean in no way was I trying to get them back together, but it had affected them so badly and all I wanted was for the people I truly cared about to be happy, and Harry said he loved me, that I was the one he wanted.

What could go wrong right?

++

"Nat, hurry up or I'm leaving your ass!" Grant yelled from downstairs, rushing me as I frantically ran around my room, knowing I was making us late for our dinner with one of his directors.

I had explained to my family about my little detour in my writing career... alright major detour since I totally skipped on my appointment with my editor but your girl had her reasons you know.

So being the best big brother- for once, Grant called up one of his old directors and writers from his past shows and movies he's starred in to talk to them about giving me a chance to write a storyline for them.

Harry was out with my dads, helping them pick out flowers for their garden that was in need of repair to help him start his landscaping career as well.

Everything was going great, Mandy and Harry talked to each other last night and they were finally okay and they even forgave one another and put it behind them.

Mandy was out shopping with Todd so I was pretty much the only one at home since Grant was already out the door, honking the horn of his fucking mercedes outside.

"Dude! I can't find my writing journal!" I yelled from the balcony, panicking as he lowered his sunglasses down his nose, giving me a look as I began to pant.

"You're a writer, pull something out of your ass and make something up!" He hollered back, honking his horn again with an impatient frown as I rolled my eyes at him.

"Look it's not that easy, I'll meet you guys at the cafe I promise, just tell them that I'll be there in a few minutes!" I shouted in reply, rushing back inside as he hit his steering wheel with the palm of his hand in annoyance before I heard his car rev up and drive off.

Where was my damn fucking journal, I swear I had it with me when I went for my appointment.

My search was interrupted by the sound of my cell phone ringing on the bed, making me fumble through all the clothes and objects littered on the ground before I retrieved it.

"Hey Lisa, what's up?" I answered with a smile, still looking through all bags I had brought to my parent's house.

Maybe I left it at home.

"Oh nothing much..." She giggled in a mischevious tone making me furrow my brows in curiousity at the sound of her voice.

"Where are you? You're not home." She suddenly said making me freeze my actions all together.

"Oh yeah, I'm at my parent's house for the weekend. Are you at my place?" I asked, kicking a few clothes on the floor out of my way.

"Yeah I am actually! Oh god okay, I was trying to keep this a surprise but... your book got published!" Lisa squealed into the phone, causing my heart to drop at her words as I blinked in shock, staring at nothing in particular while my mind tried to process what she had just said.

"Ha, that's- that's funny... For a minute I thought you just said my book got published." I laughed out nervously, scratching at my head hoping I had just misheard her.

"That's exactly what I said! Your story got published Nat! It's so funny, remember when we bumped into eachother that day, I must have grabbed your file on accident because when I checked all of them I found your writing." She explained in an excited tone as my heart fell to the pit of my stomach.

Oh shit.

"Anyways, I took it upon myself to bring my work to my boss and she loved your story. I also explained that you lost it which is why you skipped the appointment and that we had your consent to publish it. Isn't this exciting? It's everywhere, in all the bookstores in over five states, can you believe it only took a week?" She laughed as I gulped, the whole room feeling like it was spinning as panic seeped in, making me take a few steps back, trying to regulate my heavy breathing.

Oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shi-

"No, no I can't believe it." I swallowed, tugging at the roots of my hair, shaking my head in denial.

"Nat are you okay? You don't sound so excited." Lisa asked, sounding concerned and a bit disappointed as I looked around frantically.

No, no nothing was okay, Harry was going to find out about the story, about how and why I had tried pursuing him in the first place.

"N-no I just- I have to-" I sputtered, trying to put my alarmed feelings into words before my ankles got tangled into one of my shirts on the floor making me trip and stumble back until I fell into my open closet, slamming my back against the wall causing Harry's duffel bag on the upper shelf to fall to the ground.

We had placed his stuff there since my room was already cluttered with most of my things.

I winced, rubbing at my head as my eyes widened at the papers that were flying in the air from his bag before my gaze fell upon his landscaping journal on the floor in front of me, open with pages from it scattered all over the carpet.

"Ah shit." I mumbled to myself, flustered and overwhelmed as I scrambled to my knees, collecting the papers while I heard Lisa call my name through my phone that was discarded somewhere on the ground.

My whole body tensed when I realized that all the papers that had slipped out of Harry's journal onto the floor were of his handwriting, each page starting with the words "Dear Mimi."

They were love letters to my sister.

I shook my head, trying to avoid the words as I gathered the letters, not wanting to pry and assuming they were probably written when he was in highschool since none of them were dated.

I just don't understand why he still had them.

No, he couldn't be, Harry's not only my best friend but also my boyfriend, he told me he loves me.

I'll just put these all back in his notebook and call him to explain about my story then everything will be okay.

"Natalie? Hello? Are you still there?" I heard Lisa's small voice ask from my phone on the floor which was under one of the letters from Harry's journal.

"Yeah sorry, I'm still here, I'm fine I was just-" I began, picking up the paper to retrieve my phone only for my eyes to spot my name on the page.

Once I read my name I unconsciously read the whole sentence Harry had scrawled down in the letter to my sister, my blood running cold and the whole world around me coming to a stand still as my eyes darted across the sentence, over and over again.

Reading that one sentence was the mere cause of how not fine I was as I stared at the letter in my shaking hand, rereading the words repeatedly until it was engraved in my head.

I found out your sister Natalie is using me as inspiration for a story she's writing -which I don't mind, it'll be a mutual relationship, she'll use me for her story and I'll use her to get back to the woman I want to be with for the rest of my life... and that will forever be you Mimi.

Forever and always,
H.

AN: The storm has arrived. I think everyone lowkey knew that Lisa and Nat switched papers, very predictable, very yah know, cliché but don't forget I always add a twist to things. Yes, Harry has known about Nat's story since the beginning.

And if you think this was bad.

This is nothing compared to the next chapter....
