Inkitt: Hit or Miss?

I know I promised 3 chapters (related to other topics ofc).

But still! iwanna update this book.

I dare you to stop me!

Anyway, in today's chapter i want to address something (kinda) important, considering that many of you are moving to other sides like quotev or inkitt.

For quotev, all that I will say is:

1. it's dead

2. chances of people stealing your work is well.... also high. Though, if you are there for making quizzes etc then it's all fun and games.

As for inkitt, i made an account, checked it out and then deleted it since being your very own judgmental ass Asiansistah whose own books are flawed, iwas quite concerned about plenty of things. Which is one reason... Inkitt should not be your next destination. LEMME EXPLAIN!

1. Who is running it?

This guy by the name Ali Albazaz. He is the founder and CEO of Inkitt. While our dude has studied computer science + his site brags about publishing your work, it's quite ironic that he has no publishing experience. Now, let's check out his profile!

okay... considering that wattpad's official page has follower engagement in millions.. it's quite disappointing. i mean a guy who can't promote his own profile... how in the world is he gonna promote your book to 7 billion people on this planet? But oh wait! i spy with my little  Asian eyes....

(jk.. i don't have small eyes.)

A story!! on his profile!! let's check it out!

I don't wanna judge or anything but... i was expecting more from someone who "values writing, writers and publishing." This book only has one chapter which itself was published a long time ago. And it's a prologue. Bland. And i found no humor or elements of intrigue in it.

Lizzy! you're being too hard on him and it's unethical to critique a person! Shame on your family cow and pet dragon! jkdjggiu!!!

Don't bring my innocent cow and dragon into this! I have a reasoning behind this! those who are signing up on this site are entrusting this dude with their books.

A damn product of their own blood sweat and tears (behind the scene of when your mum gave birth to you.) Moreover, he promises to promote and publish your book!

HOW?!! HOW?

Is he able to create his own good content? NO

Is his book a work of art? He didn't even bother to publish other parts!

Is his profile an active one?

No.

It's just as dead as my motivation to go to school tomorrow.

As dead as a horse.

Then we have the dear co founder! The lady second in command for taking care of your book and getting it published. Btw she is a graphic designer.

We'll welcome Linda Gavin here in this chapter! A round of applause!

Plus some of her stories.

And the first chapter of her book "cat attack"

All that i wanna say is this that her profile in neither active, responsive nor ...promising. Which really makes me concerned about her abilities when it comes to attracting a crowd to promote a book.

Their own books are deprived of attention.

2. Complicated Algorithm

Even though the duo has no idea about what to do next, yet, they have this super algorithm which decides which book to publish despite being a Shitty and non promising version of Wattpad.

According to them they judge a book whether or not it's worth being published based on how many peeps are reading your book daily. i.e if 10 peeps are reading your book on Monday but only 3 peeps are reading it on Tuesday; inkitt will assume that there is a lack of "reader engagement." Which will affect your demographics.

Facepalm

As a site which promotes itself as "The world's first reader-powered publisher"  their another motto is:

"Who are we or any editor in the world to judge whether your book is worth publishing?"

umm sorry? but isn't this the job of an editor or the publishing agency/medium itself to guide the writer? to make their stuff better? Oh wait! nah, they are just out there to criticize your work and destroy your self esteem. Who needs their opinion anyway? And hey! you know what? Let's print a bajillion copies of this book and sell 'em! But wait! no one is buying my book! whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy????

that's why you require an honest publishing agency or an editor, fam.

But when it comes to inkitt, you don't need one! since it's not their job. rather they have this super advanced algorithm which basically is that they start out with zero data, and then some data, and then they train their algorithm on that data. And then the algorithm studies more data as it continues learning from nothing into something. (confusing?)

This is 100% farce because the super-good AI they tout couldn't have sprouted out of nothing. In fact, I don't even think their algorithm even exists.

The problem is that the Inkitt algorithm would need big data from their own users to figure out what books people read more on their platform. (That's what they say their algorithm analyzes).

(i had no idea how to describe it henceforth the text in italics is copied from:  https://enchoseon.com credits to the author)

3. Rights and earnings? pfft! who needs that?

A decent agent will charge you 15-20% of your earnings from the book. But who needs an agent when inkitt can do the same thing with absolutely zero publishing experience?

really inkitt, really?

Moving on, while inkitt claims that you have your rights it's one of those Asian mum who first say that you own the house just as much as the rest of the family and then demands you to clean it (since she doesn't want the maid to think that your house is as dirty as Lizzy's mind.)

And here is the part when "Special promotion" comes in. It's like indirectly saying that you have become a wattpad star here on wattpad. Which could've been a good news only if the platform wasn't inkitt.

When you are specially promoted on inkitt you get plenty of things:

1. A personalized mug

2. A notepad

and in return you give inkitt:

1.The rights to your story.

since sharing is caring right?

Inkitt can own your stuff if you are "Specially Promoted."

You are "specially promoted" when they throw your book on Amazon, quickly giving themselves the rights to your work. And hey! they gave you two things (a mug and notepad) then why are you just giving them the rights to your book? it's only one thing! Let's do more... oh wait! there is no need since inkitt itself is a scam.

You see The thing is, when you sign into Inkitt with your Facebook or Google account, they can request your data. And depending on what information you give when you click "Yes, I Accept," you could be giving away lots of information to e-marketers or ad companies. If you don't mind giving away information then none of this should matter as it's a matter of choice.

4. Am i getting any audience?

Simply put. No.

Most readers themselves are  either writers who are desperately trying to make a cut for themselves or those friends who are just there to vote and comment for the sake of friendship. The site itself is dead and i honestly don't see any massive engagement or audience. They used to host fanfiction contests but even then, it doesn't compensate for how deserted the site is. A book by Erin Swan would have to be published by inkitt in 2017. But because of technical problems it's going to be out in Winter 2019.

Hit or miss?
