that morning the two boys said goodbye to their parents like usual, left the homes and walked down the sidewalks until meeting up as they usually would on their way to school. the only difference now was the absence of their third friend and the fact that they were getting on the public bus rather than the school bus.

"my mom made me such a good breakfast today and i lied to her." hoseok said once they picked two free seats in the middle of the bus. jimin just rolled his eyes and pulled out a granola bar, his breakfast. "you didn't lie, you said you were taking the bus." the boy pointed out before taking a bite.

it tasted like sawdust and chocolate chips. "do you know where they're going?" hoseok asked.

the bus started to move and jimin swayed a bit. "yeah, the same cafe we had waffles at." the plan was to hide at the market across the street, behind the grapefruit stand since it was the tallest sign.

"wow that's original." hoseok said.

"he doesn't have to try." jimin said while looking out the window, all the shops and food places zoomed by in a blur of smeared color. "taehyung is too in love with the idea of being in love to notice this isn't it."

it was truer than most statements heard these days, more serious and realistic than the things they wished to talk about. hoseok just hummed at that, and they sat in silence until signaling for the next stop. they were being safe and got off a block away from the cafe and market, walking the rest of the way.

"did he tell you what time?" hoseok asked. jimin just shrugged and looked for the grapefruits. "no, but i said i'd cover for him at school so he's not suspecting anything." the silver haired male continued to walk down the sidewalk, not too busy or crowded this early on a tuesday.

hoseok followed beside him with his hands in his pockets. they ditched their backpacks in the bushes outside jimins house, neither feeling like carrying all those books. they also weren't sure how long they'd be out.

"shit look." hoseok grabbed his friend and tugged him downwards, the two of them now behind a cart of flowers. they smelled very nicely in the morning, they might have been tulips. jimin wasn't too sure.

but he was sure that he saw his friend across the street and smiling wide at something his boyfriend was talking about. they already had their plates in front of them, but it must have just come out because both still had food on top of them. "i should have had more than a granola bar." jimin said, practically smelling the stacks of french toast and maple syrup.

they peeled over the top of the cart at the couple. it seemed perfect, two of them at a little cafe and laughing together, smiling and seemingly happy together in this moment. jimin narrowed his eyes and poked his friend to keep moving down the sidewalk between the stations of fruits and vegetables. "so what are we actually doing?" hoseok asked.

"i'm working on it." jimin said.

his friends jaw just dropped a little more. "you said you'd figure it out yesterday." hoseok said. jimin just smacked his arm and they ignored the weird looks they got from people wondering why two boys were crouching and bickering on the sidewalk.

"yeah well," jimin said, "i kind of cherish taehyungs happiness so i didn't want to think of anything too mean."

"good point."

neither got to say anything more, or even think of doing anything more since a voice broke in instead. a deep satoori accent that surprised the two of them and had them looking upwards at the tall male. "whatcha doin." jungkook had asked, standing there with a plastic bag full of produce and a raised eyebrow.

he recognized them from before, and jimin from going to the gym that one time. they obviously knew who he was, and weren't expecting him to be there. jimin grabbed his tattoo covered arm and yanked him downwards to hide behind the carts with them, a grunt leaving his throat at the sudden jolting action. jungkook glared at the boy, but jimin ignored him anyways.

"we're on a mission." hoseok said. jungkook stood crouched between them now, an idiot sandwich with one dumb slice of bread on each side of him. he just blinked and wondered why he didn't get up and leave yet.

"we're spying on tae and his brick wall of a boyfriend." jimin said, all three of them now peeking over the side of the grapefruit cart.

jungkook was aware that those two knew each other, given they spoke at the gym as well as being the same age. he figured they knew each other from school, but he wouldn't have guessed that they were together like that. part of him hated seojoon more now — if his spoiled and rotten attitude wasn't enough, it was worse now that the ravenette knew he somehow managed to get someone like taehyung.

taehyung — the boy who stood out against everything with that pink hair, he probably would anyways despite what hair color he had. jungkook stared across he street at the way the boy leaned forward on the table with his chin in his palm and that pretty smile on display for anyone to just walk by and see. he didn't like at him like that the other night, not when they sat on his bed so close together.

"do you always stare at your friends from across the city traffic." jungkook asked the two boys he was in the middle of.

jimin just shrugged, "we're figuring out what to do." he was still looking over the side of the cart and watching his best friend getting more and more lost. he was so close the other day, sitting at breakfast jimin thought they had finally reached a place where he might have been able to tell seojoon to fuck the fuck off.

"do nothing." jungkook stood up and heard his knees pop at the action. he switched hands when carrying the plastic bag of produce, looking down at the boys still squatting. they were just a bunch of kids, messing with things that really meant nothing.

the two of them looked up with parted lips and confused looks. based on what they knew, the fact that jungkook was the one that wanted to kiss their friend, they thought he'd be interested in messing with this lame breakfast date. but they were a bunch of high school kids who didn't know any better, and jungkook just walked off with tense shoulders and white knuckles.

taehyung turned him down. jungkook knew how to take a message, he knew when he wasn't wanted — there was no fight here.
