jungkook felt the sting in his arms and the burn in his chest that came with each breath, but he didn't stop, not until his arms shook and he realized no one was there to yank the bar off his chest if he decided to give up — then again that was a reason to keep going as well.
he didn't stop until the music ended, as usual, and then jungkook grunted one last time as he set the bar back in place and sat up. a pool of sweat had gathered in his belly button, and a stream trailed down his back. the ravenette stood and grabbed his t-shirt, tugging the fabric back over his head and walking towards to the door.
routine was important to him. it was the cycle of actions that came daily that had the mans mind at ease and running on autopilot most of the time. jungkook didn't like things from changing, he didn't like the way things could crash and screw everything up that he's beaten into place and into proper shape. that usual autopilot mindset never worked when his eyes got washed in pink and gold, a sight to see as he walked down those spiral stairs.
jungkook wasn't expecting to see him here, not after the things he had said. but he did look good, with his soft hair sitting like faded pink clouds atop his head, framing that tanned flawless face. taehyung had walked into the front office, not even glancing around the fitness center before disappearing around the corner to most like sit at the desk.
he was right. taehyung had sat down on the same chair and turned on the computer. he figured he'd do whatever until either he decided to go to the dark haired male or he came wandering in at some point. the same thing was up in open tabs as when he had left it, expect now there were a few new subscriptions and people signing up for the summer sessions. apparently it was this thing that came around every june. normal training hours started earlier and the nights were left for competitive matches — eventually there's only one winner left who wins a prize and some award.
taehyung became nosy and continued to read, even opening the website to look more into it. there wasn't much else to do.
he was too intrigued by the readings and advertisements that he didn't hear the older male walk in. not until he felt his presence behind the chair and heard that deep voice. "would you come watch." jungkook asked, seeing what the boy was looking at.
taehyung couldn't help but jump a little, not by surprise but because of the way he instantly was reminded of his dream — that voice sending him straight back agains the leather seats and the sting of teeth on his skin. "are you signing up?" taehyung asked, looking up at the male who stood behind him. those dark eyes already looking at his own.
jungkook just chuckled and looked away, his hair fell over his eyes when he did so. "no." he said. "i never do."
"because you know you'll win?" taehyung asked. he watched the older tuck some of his long hair behind his ear, those muscles flexing just at something simple as that.
"i know i'd lose." someone taehyung didn't believe that. there's no way jungkook would lose against the ones he trained, or didn't train — he had to be good enough to win.
they stood there now in silence, neither knowing what to say first or even about what. taehyung wasn't going to say anything, everyone he did it was always something wrong. maybe the ravenette could sense this, so he stepped forward and watched the boy visibly hold his breath at this.
jungkook reached forward and past the boy, just like before and maybe even his own breath hitched at the closeness. "here." he said, taking a sticky note and holding it on the tip of his index finger. "do this for me and get me when you're finished." he said.
taehyung took the sticky note and only looked down when the older man stepped away, no longer so close that is felt like he was personally sucking the air from his lungs. it was a simple list of tasks for him to to, putting in the new entries of members that would start next month as well as organizing those who have been signing up for the summer season. taehyung waited for the male to leave before turning back to the computer.
finally his breathing returned to normal, and his heart seemed to finally slow as well.
taehyung must have needed this, whether it was a legit job or not he didn't really care. he needed something to busy his mind. it was effective too, because before he knew it the windows turned dark from the lack of sunlight and soon his eyes hurt from staring at the screen too long. he had only just now started sorting those that signed up for the summer season fights, and he luckily found an older form set up from the year before that he was following.
at one point he had gotten a little imaginative, taking a notebook and finding an empty page to doodle brochures. taehyung thought jungkook had a bland taste, he was too blunt and straightforward and everything here spoke for that. he needed some fun and colorful advertisements to either get more people singing up or at lest more wanting to come watch.
it was well into the night before taehyung realized he must have missed dinner at home. there would be lots of apologies the next morning to his mother.
what scared him was the hand on his shoulder, despite belonging to jungkook. taehyung still jumped in his seat. "jesus shit you scared me." he said, looking up at the man.
jungkook apologized and removed his hand, the spot no longer burning through the youngers shirt and even through his skin. "sorry," his accent was clear and sent shivers down taehyungs spine. "i didn't think you'd still be here. it's late." jungkook said.
"oh." was all he said, looking away to see the time was well past 11 pm.
"it looks good." the older said, nodding his head towards the sketch on the notebook paper. it was a doodle of a boxing ring, the name of the competition in big animated looking letters coming out the middle of the ring with little swirls and confetti looking things around it. little people decorated the sides, all faceless and arms in the air like they were cheering.
taehyung looked down at it, but he wanted to cover it with his hands. "thanks." he said. "yours was boring."
jungkook chuckled at how straightforward he was being tonight. the lack of playfulness was missed, but the fact that he was here talking to him was still nice. "here." he set a key onto the top of the desk, one that led to the front entrance of the fitness center as well as the second floor office. taehyung picked up the lanyard it was on. "if you're going to be working here for real you'll need a way in on your own." jungkook explained.
"thanks." taehyung said again. he took the key and stuck it in the front pocket of his bag that sat on the ground beside his feet.
there was silence again, it wasn't quiet awkward but it wasn't comfortable either. taehyungs eyes still hurt, "i should get going." he said, standing up — but just as he stood, the boy with tattoos took a step forward, and soon his hands hovering next to the boys hips, not quite sure if he was welcomed to touch him. "or you could stay." jungkook said it quietly.
it was so quiet, but taehyung heard him, and he could feel how close he was and even see the little shadows the mans eyelashes cast on his cheekbones. taehyung met his eyes, and he blinked and remembered his dream.
that's all it was, a silly little dream.
