boredom was a river, an invitation for the brain to play and thoughts to flow without much direction. they found their own paths to run down, time and time again they'd move forward and backward, circling to old memories or new ideas depending on the day.
his river was dry today. jungkook sat there at the front desk with a canyon in his head and dust falling from his ears and collecting on the desk in front of him. he traced pictures in the dust, trailing his index finger through it.
the door open and the dust disappeared. the ravenette blinked and he only saw the computer keyboard and paper clips.
no canyon dust.
he looked up through messy bangs, black streaks blurring his vision and covering up most of the guests entering the gym. jungkook could still recognize namjoon though. "what's up jeon." he had said as always, the same grin and same aura surrounding him. things like that would typically get old, the same expressions and same greetings — but namjoon had a charm about him that made those things nice to see every day.
"work." was all the owner had said, shaking his bangs away from his face and seeing a mop of faded pink following behind the man. "i see the straggler belongs to you." jungkook recognized him as the boy from yesterday.
namjoon looked at his little brother, "sorry, i pick him up from school. if there's a problem-"
"there's no problem." jungkook cut him off first and returned to blankly staring at the computer screen. there were multiple profiles to be submitted and logged into the system, membership cards to be made and training logs created for the season starting.
he was suppose to be paying attention, but that was hard to do when namjoon swiped in with his card but the pink blob didn't follow him. jungkook didn't plan on acknowledging the boy, but that fact that he didn't leave was starting to get on his nerves. "did you want something?" you could barely make out his dark eyes from behind even darker bangs.
taehyung walked up to the front desk and leaned his elbows on the surface. it went up to about his chest, covering the undone buttons and making a clinking sound when his necklaces bumped against it. "nope." he simply said. the dark haired male glanced up at him, and taehyung ignored the shiver down his spine. he looked around the room, but his brown eyes made their way back to the guy sitting in front of the computer. "what'd you do to your hands?" taehyung asked, seeing the bandages with red stains coming through.
jungkook sighed when he heard the boys voice again, this time sitting back in the chair to look up at him. he still didn't say anything, and taehyung took that as reason to keep asking questions. he never really cared about being quiet, or wondering if he spoke too much, his thoughts just tended to spew out without much prior notice.
"is it because you punched someone like that guy did yesterday?" a small grin showed up on taehyungs face, thinking back to the almost fight that he witnessed. "i don't think i've ever hit someone. do you tend to think about punching people?"
"i'm thinking about it right now." jungkook finally said. it was a sort of threat, but the boy standing there was still smiling with his chin in his hand.
"that doesn't seem like a real professional thing to say." taehyung said.
"you're not paying me." the tattooed guy pointed out. he was playing along with this kid a lot longer than he usually would, entertaining his playful remarks with similar ones in return. jungkook would normally leave by now and go beat his bag until the skin on his knuckles cracked again for the hundredth time or his music cut out signaling the end of his session.
taehyung however also had an effect on people. he could talk to nearly anyone, making friends and making them comfortable. maybe it was a kim thing.
"what would i get from you if i was paying." taehyung smiled cheekily, not missing the way the corners of jungkooks lips twitched — but it fell back to his usual stoic expression. the ravenette stood from the rolling chair, leaving the computer and giving one last look to the boy before walking through the office and to the back gym area.
taehyung frowned now that he was alone again, but it was only for a second — he replaced it with a smile as usual, and he walked around the desk to the side and headed to the back. what he wasn't expecting was to hit a solid chest, his nose pressed against black fabric that smelled like men's cologne and sweat, an oddly attractive scent. "i'm so sorry." he said quickly, looking up and seeing jungkook raise an eyebrow.
"are you bored." the ravenette asked, seeing how he's had a wanderer in his gym the past two days. it's not like the boy appeared to want to pay for any lessons any time soon, but he also got the vibe that taehyung didn't feel like leaving any time soon.
"i'm having the time of life right now, quality establishment you have here."
"shut up and come on." jungkook said, walking away and not checking to see if the boy followed. he did of course, a shadow of little steps and pink cheeks.
the owner walked back up to the front desk, pulling out the chair for the younger boy. "we have a no loitering policy. if you're going to stay here you're going to have to do something for me." jungkook said, waiting as the boy took a seat and tilted his head back to meet eyes with the now much taller guy.
"you say we as if there are other people working here." taehyung said, pointing out what the tattooed boy had said. jungkooks expression didn't change, but his lips twitched again — and he made sure to clench his jaw more this time. "organize these files, place the profiles where they belong based on membership and things like that. i don't really care just make it neater than it already is."
taehyung scooted in to the desk and looked at the tabs open on the screen. it didn't seem hard, especially since jungkook didn't really care what he did in the first place. "am i getting paid for this?" he asked.
the older just placed his palms on his shoulders, pushing the chair in for him and leaning down. "we can talk about it later if you'd like?" jungkook asked, voice low. he could feel taehyung tense as he spoke, and that definitely made his mouth turn up into a subtle smirk.
but he was thrown off, and jungkook wasn't sure if was enjoying or hating it. the way he liked to cause a stir in people and see them silence at his words — not look up with a pretty eyes and a sweet smile, "are you saying you want to speak to me again?" taehyung said.
jungkook grunted something that was suppose to be a response, removing his hands and standing straighter. he had no comeback.
"just do it." he said it harshly, but the high schooler wasn't phased in the slightest. he just turned back to the computer with a small smile on his face, and a little swirl in his tummy knowing he made the big bad boxer boy speechless.
