this is the third time the song came on the radio, and jungkook hit the power button too hard once that obnoxious beat came through the speakers again. he's been sitting outside the large house for a while now, nearly ten minutes now as his thoughts filled the car and mixed with the smell of fried food.
he finally shut off the car and stepped out, shoving the bags of food into his backpack before stepping out and waiting for the sound of the car to lock. the kim house was decent sized, not obnoxious but still prominently standing on a piece of land coming from an evidently large wallet.
jungkook grimaced and realized he'd been standing in the middle of the road now just as long as he'd been in the car. why was this so hard. why was he here and why was he not back at his own place.
because you feel bad you idiot. he knew that was true, and he was annoyed by it.
before he could second guess any longer, his index finger was pressing the doorbell and his stomach was falling out of his ass. jungkook hated everything that didn't make him feel angry or upset, because those motions were so much easier to deal with. punch a few things and scream a little and everything was okay again.
he was in uncharted territories now, especially seeing that a woman answered the door and was very clearly the boys mother. she looked surprised to see him standing there this late, and it was the first thing he apologized for. "i'm sorry to intrude." jungkook said. "is taehyung home?"
mrs. kim was surprised to see someone that wasn't his usual friends or boyfriend at the door, he didn't bring people home often. plus jungkook didn't look like the type he normally surrounded himself with. she smiled politely and stepped aside to invite him in, "no worries sweetheart, come on in and i'll call him down. he's probably in his room doing homework."
jungkook nodded and thanked her, walking in and seeing how the shoes were left by the door. he took the hint and left his boots at the front, then followed the small lady through the corridor and to a kitchen. it was big with high ceilings and an openness to it, there were no walls closing it off from the living room and the large staircase that had a balcony and most likely led to the bedrooms.
"are you a friend from school?" mrs. kim asked politely, starting small talk while she finished up what she was doing. it looked like she was putting leftovers away from their meal.
jungkook cleared his throat and adjusted the backpack strap on his shoulder. "no, i actually knew your other son first. namjoon attends the gym i own." he said.
mrs. kim looked up and she had a look of recognition on her face, and then came that look jungkook was so familiar with. he tried not to grimace knowing it was coming. "you're jeon jaeryongs boy. i'm sorry for your-"
"it's okay." jungkook knew cutting off people was impolite, definitely disrespectful, but he's heard it too many times. it still pinched at his heart whenever someone brought it up, looking at him like he was suddenly fragile. he wasn't.
she realized this and simply smiled, "can i get you something, would you like tea?" she asked her guest.
"yes thank you." the ravenette said.
the lady stopped what she was doing to grab a kettle and fill it with fresh water, setting it on the stove and letting that sit for now. she turned back to the boy, only to see her son finally coming down from the stairs. "taehyung." mrs. kim said, "your friend stopped by."

"what are you doing here?" taehyung asked once they entered his room. he thanked whatever it was that made him clean it up a bit the day before. jungkook was very clearly looking around, not hiding the way he saw the photos on the wall and the books stacked on the desk next to unfinished assignments. "you see how weird it is when people show up unannounced." jungkook said.
taehyung rolled his eyes and fell back on the bed to continue staring up at the ceiling. if he ignored the older one long enough maybe he'd get bored and leave. "want me to offer you a job or something." he said from his spot on the mattress. jungkook actually chuckled at that, and taehyung didn't realize how close he was until their knees bumped together.
he had walked up to the bed and stopped right at the end where taehyung fell back. now the boy looked up through his pink parted bangs and watched the tattooed boy looking down at him, and from this angle jungkook managed to look so much more attractive. "what would you have me do tae."
there seemed to be more hiding beneath those words, little secrets that promised actions that should have be saved for someone else. taehyung couldn't help it though, thinking those things as he laid in bed looking up at him. it would be a lie to say jungkook wasn't attractive, and he could totally get it. but taehyung had a boyfriend, and he could totally be overthinking what the ravenette was saying. there's no way he meant anything more.
"i'd make you buy me food." taehyung shot back.
jungkook chuckled again. that damn sound filling the bedroom.
the older boy dropped his back pack and turned to sit beside taehyung. a decent space was between their legs and taehyung frowned at it. he sat up as well as jungkook pulled out a very familiar bag that has grease stains on the outside seeping through the fast food restaurant logo. "i'm two steps ahead of you kid." jungkook said.
"what's this for?" taehyung took the bag and smelled he fries already. he peeked inside and saw the large basket with the cup of cheese on the side for dipping. his stomach grumbled just at the sight.
jungkook felt nervous again, realizing this was the part he didn't like to do. it was easy to just be playful, teasing the boy and getting a rise from him. now he had to be somewhat serious and genuine and actually comfort his own actions. he wanted to throw up all over the fancy carpet underneath his socks. "to say sorry. for being kind of rude earlier." jungkook scratched the back of his neck when he spoke, and he felt worse as taehyung watched him with a fry in his mouth and tiny smile.
"you're so cute." taehyung said it without thinking, because it was true, and a simple compliment. "and it's okay, now eat." he held a fry up to the older male who just made a face at both the compliment as well as the fried food. "i shouldn't." he said.
taehyung rolled his eyes and ate the fry instead, "that's a shame." he pulled his legs up and sat criss cross, dipping more fries in the cheese and eating happily. he had forgotten why he was in a mood at all, it didn't take much for him to forgive. he still didn't know if that was a good or bad thing sometimes.
"your mother is kind." jungkook said. he sat beside the boy, playing with a loose thread on the bed comforter to busy his hands since he chose not to indulge in the fast food. "you look like her." he added.
taehyung smiled, "thanks." his mother was very beautiful, slim features and a pretty profile anyone would kill for. she must have been stunning when she was younger, the girl everyone in school wanted because she was beautiful but also a good person. it made taehyung think of the girls at his school, the pretty cheerleaders and dancers and artist that everyone wanted. "what's your mother like?"
"i'm not sure," jungkook said, "i haven't spoken to her since-" he stopped. he didn't know how he almost said that, how it almost slipped out without him even realizing.
this was no good. he couldn't let this happen, not when taehyung made him feel comfortable enough to just nearly be so open.
"since when?" taehyung asked. he noticed the way the older male just stopped, and he was no longer playing with that piece of thread. taehyung didn't push, he just waited patiently for the ravenettes response. jungkook looked over at the boy, seeing how he stopped eating and just watched him as well.
they sat and looked at each other, a stare that was locked and steady. jungkook reached up slowly, "you have," he tailed off and gently rubbed a bit of cheese off the corner of taehyungs lips with the pad of his thumb.
they sat and didn't realize they both had leaned closer. "thank you." taehyung whispered, his heart was in his throat and it beat rapidly seeing his close he was. jungkook didn't drop his hand from the boys face, and it was burning through his skin down to his jaw and grabbing at his chest to get a hold of himself.
jungkook didn't advance any longer, it was his turn to wait and to see what the boy would do next. he saw the struggle in the youngers eyes, the way he looked down at jungkooks lips so clearly but he did nothing. "i shouldn't." he whispered so quietly.
jungkook just hummed, and he rubbed his thumb across the boys cheek. "that's a shame." he pulled away and sat straighter once again, dark eyes looking down at the carpet — in his mind they turned into a green ocean with baby butterflies dying in the midst of it all.
